Only way to keep society from spiraling out of control is to Educate on truth and allow the free exchange of ideas in the public domain. Without free exchange, how can people can convince each other something is wrong or show the truth to those in echo chambers? By placing people in tribes, you lead to conflicting ideologies and people end up embolden to use violence against each other.
Echo chambers leads to tribal mentality, where one group won't listen to the other and they are more willing to use violence to solve their problems.
I blame twitter and other medias, for forcing people into echo chambers on social media, thus in turn further entrenching tribalism which is lead to more violent conflicts between people.
Social justice and identity politics did push the social medias to this.
They are making the problem so much more worse.
I am saying the community orgs today are "FORCING" people into echo chambers, which leads to them being exposed to identity politics without any counter argument to persuade them from following those politics.
You don't conform to my ideology and you are making people offended, therefor you are banned from this thread.
No one wants to engage and debate, to thus change the mind of the individual.
I am not talking about smaller social media, the forums, discord, etc, etc...
I am talking about the big social media sites, the ones that controls communication around the world.
It is so much more likely that you will be exposed to bad ideas and entrenched in the ideas when people are always like... your racists and fascists, therefor you must only be placed in the echo chambers with actual racists and fascists.
Before twitter started shadow banning and placing people into bubbles for "Content" that they want to see, we were able to talk to each other and exchange ideas together.
REgardless who you were and where you were from.
Yes there was echo chambers, but they were small and in the fringe.
Now they are massive and split between the left and right.
Not to the extent that people are willing to violent beat each other up over their political opinions.
What you are basically saying, you are taking blame from the big social media companies for contributing these echo chambers. I say the social media companies are party of the problem, they are a big part of the problem, they are not the sole cause of the problem though.
It feels like you are trying to say that the big social media companies are not the reason for this.
I feel that the big social media companies has accelerated the problem to the end game and is major part of dividing people even more along party lines aka tribalism.
These companies are vastly powerful and working together in conjunctions with each other, basically they have monopolized our communication across the internet. Then they start restricting content to us based on our likes and dislikes, which bleeds into politics where you may like republican and dislike democrats, etc, etc... They give you content based on what your views and likes are. Creating a huge echo chamber for many people, they also hide comments and opinions that is opposed to your views.
They pretty much false advertise to people using these platforms. Aka free speech platforms where free exchange of ideas can happen. That isn't what you get with these social media companies now.
Is it false advertisement? Seriously think about it.
I don't think we need regulations, but we do need like a internet bill of rights for our users, thus if the social media infringes upon these rights they can be sued and held accountable.
We don't need government intervention into the social media companies.
It is basically a agreement between social media and us, this is the list of our rights and thus the social media can't infringe upon these rights unless they want to be held accountable by people through the rule of law.
Regulation is when the government is actively involved with the social media companies and keeps a thumb on their pulse. Absolute power corrupts absolute.
Basically they can be held accountable our nation's laws if they infringe upon that nation's citizen.
The law that they can be held accountable depends on the person and what nation they are from.
That is where we got to hash out the details of the bill of rights.
The constitution of United States wasn't made in a single day.
It was made day and night, hidden from the British through secret before they introduced it.
I don't get where people get that idea, it was thought upon, debated upon, talked about, and hashed out by our founding fathers.
It will take time for us users of the internet to come up with a bill of rights.
And a agreement between the social media company and us.
I don't want to give the power of controlling our global communication to the government.
Sorry for barging into this conversation, I am very opinionated and I think highly of my nation's founding father's vision.
My favorite subject is history, I take lessons from the past.
History is beautiful and sometimes sad, but history also gives us the truth and the understanding of human nature.
I have been in university, but I dropped out because of the atmosphere.
I wanted to be a constitutionalist major, someone who understands and protects it.
But I couldn't finish because of the hatred towards me because I am a independent atheist with conservative leanings.
Yeah... social justice warriors have invaded Oklahoma state.
Oklahoma is a great place, people get along outside the university.
University felt like an place to breed hatred and to divide people.
Most people say... oh we are the Midwest and racists, but in actually... we all get along great. WE don't fight, we help each other, and we depend on each other. The storms and natural diasters have created bonds that are hard to break.
We have a few democratic mayors in Oklahoma, those cities end up being the worst cities to live in Oklahoma.
What is with the Democrat mayors always leading cities down that path? I am seeing a pattern there.
I want to understand why... but it is hard too when I get pushback for bringing that up.
No thank you, no way in hell do I want to become a sanctuary city.
Sanctuary cities is basically giving the illegal immigrants a free pass to break the law. Everyone should be held accountable to the law, regardless what your situation is. We are not a nation of laws if we pick and choose our laws.
I have an term I came up a long time ago. Get woke and go broke. :\
You basically giving away everything that makes you, you... it breaks your mental state.
Individualism is squashed and group think is praised in the left.
Yeah, there is some of that on the fringe of the right
You have to go pretty far right to find it.
While on the left, you don't have to go far.
Well if they are pissed, take back their party, start convincing people .
I was originally in the left, then I switch to republican, then I went to independent. It feels much better being in the middle. Picking and choosing ideas that I view as helpful towards our nation and discard the rest.
I do not hold any party allegiance, I consider myself only a American period.
Like Timcast said, we are heading for a cliff and no one seems to be looking for a break.
I like this debate, actual debating I haven't seen in a long time.
I have a feeling that Democrats are dying by their own hand and they are too stupid to realize it.
Democrats were the creators and solders of the Confederate army. Democrats were the founders of the KKK in attempt to segregated and keep blacks from mingling with the whites, then when civil rights era came along they found against black's getting their rights. Democrats fought against almost every single civil rights piece except for the last one, they figured if they can't win, they will use the blacks by keeping them under their party as loyal voting block.
Why the heck would I support a party that attempts to blame Republicans for their past? It doesn't make sense. The tearing down statues and the destruction of the "Racist" history is working in favor of the democrats.
Why would people research the past if there isn't any reminders of the past?
Statues play a good role in making people remember the past and thus remembering never to go down that path again.
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
I created an saying throughout my debates, tell me what you think. "The reminders of past are there to remind of us our past. People that attempts to erase those reminders has no good intentions, for they are willing to run the risk of repeating it in the future. Only selfish people erase the past in the present without consideration for the future."
That is why when Tim brought that up... I was squealing with delight.
I didn't know how I felt, but I felt vindicated in some sense with my saying that I been saying for years.
I honestly can't think of a perfect label for the center, they are made of a wide diverse group of people.
Moderates lack some kind of special feeling.
NO... absolutely no way would I want to be associated with the socialists.
How about the Independent Thinkers Party of America?
But I think labeling the center is a bad idea.
Because it would end up being division along party lines.
If any label I think should fit, it would be "The Citizens"
Why isn't the Citizens a good name? I mean they are the citizens of this nation who doesn't ascribe to group think or party lines.
It is a group that doesn't ascribe to any party line or group think.
I honestly think Trump makes mistakes on purpose so media highlights the policies he wants to be highlighted, get people talking about it aka manipulating the media into doing what he wants.
There is always a mistake in the twitter rants, they media always hones in on that in attempt to ridicule him.
Someone once asked me what would I run on if I was running as a cadidate... do you guys want to see what I wrote?
This is what I wrote if I was running as a candidate for senator for my state.
Strong Constitutionalist Independent With Right Leaning
Open Minded When it Comes to Solutions (Flexible)
Revitalizing Our Forgotten Towns (Stop Decay)
Repave All Roads In Oklahoma (Fix Infrastructures, More Jobs)
Encourage Business To Move Here (More Jobs)
Better Spending And Budgeting In State (Stop Over budgets and Delays)
Make It Vital to Have Voter I.D. to Prove Your a Citizens (Don't Want Foreign Interference In Elections)
Only Legal Immigrants Who Been Here For More Than 7 Years Can Vote (Precaution From Foreign Interference)
Campaign In Congress To Streamline Our Immigration System For Legal Immigrants (No More Excuses About It Being Hard)
Encourage Foreign Transfer Students in Our College to Legally Immigrate to Oklahoma! (No Overstay Visas, Become a Citizen)
Discourage Any Illegal Immigrants From Coming to OKlahoma (Oklahoma Citizens Come First)
Increase Funding in Schools, Get Better Text Books That Do Not Have an Bias Slant (I Want to Give the Tools for Students to Succeed, Not Create Sheeps For Politicians)
Encourage Important Figures to Come To Our Schools, Regardless What Political Ideology They Are From (Better Them to Be Exposed to Diversity of Ideas Than to be Closed To No New Ideas)
I Want Our State's Colleges to Get A Major Overhaul, Implant the Best Teaching Methods If I Can For Our Students (No More Political Slants)
Only way to crush bad ideas is to give them a platform, they will crush themselves with their terrible ideas. My platform would only change if there is new issues to handle or if my ideas prove to be unfruitful, I will look for another way to fix issue. I am willing to be flexible when it comes to solutions to fixing our state. That is how I would be if I was running...
What, I want history and nothing but history. I don't want any political bias in history class.
So for me trying to make things better for my citizens would get me skewered alive?
I want to give them choices, the tools, and the ability to better thanselves aka equal opportunity.
*Sighs.* Equal opportunity allows for people the chance to pull themselves out of poverty and earn the life they want to live.
Equality on the other hand is forcing people to be equal.
There in, that is why there is the "CHANCE."
They get a chance... when other countries they don't get a chance.
But there is a lot of bias being introduced in school books now.
I think the reason text boxes are expensive is because where they are made at.
Oh that is a great idea Revan, free market tends to drive prices down... but there is the problem with equality of the books.
They might cut corners to save money aka miss important lessons.
But that is how I think, the general idea on how to make my state better.
I'm mixed myself... Native American and Caucasion... could never spell that right.
I never could spell that word, it always felt weird writing that down. I am predominately Caucasian.
If the government had their way, I would been adopted into a native tribe.
But my birth mom hide the fact I was native from government, so I could be adopted out to my current mother.
No I am not... because I have no connection to tribes except by blood.
Native American reservations are suffering from a lot of crap.
People tend to treat them as foreigners instead of Americans.
Just because we have reservations, doesn't mean we are foreigners.
If I was placed on that reservation like I should have been, I would have been closed off to United States in many ways.
Since I am outside the reservations, I have a unique angle to look at things.
You never know or understand the other side unless you are on the other side.
I feel that there been attempts to isolate Native Americans into tribes.
Yes we should practice and respect the culture, but use is it to keep them isolated and not allow them to participate in our politics?
In our states growth? They are in fact citizens of our nation.
Pratel... it is more of a isolation and bubble.
A lot of bad problems are imported into the reservations, but there is no effort to help them solve those problems.
Then they barely get any say in the direction of our nation's growth.
I don't advocate giving land back, that time has long since past.
I think though, we should focus on co-existing and making amends for past transactions by doing something positive to help both of us.
Why should I stay bitter about the past, the past I wasn't directly impacted by?
I'm not sure, my thoughts are not complete because I don't have access to any tribes at the moment.
But I feel we can't ignore them and leave them to their own demise.
I can only talk about my experiences outside the reservations as a native American.
And what I see from peering into the reservation.
But the government can fix the problems that they created themselves.
Open an center to help fight addiction in native reservations would be a good step.
Give them a door to step away from that life.
No I am not talking about that... I am talking about like AAA meetings to help them get away from addictions.
There really isn't much extremist ideologies in native tribes.
I think it has something to do with the culture.
Rural areas tend to be more neighbor friendly and close netted group of people.
That care and help each other up, we don't usually think about identity politics like the west coast and east coast does.
I despise identity politics, I view it as a way to divide people and put them against each other.
I wish people stop looking down on the middle America aka "Fly over states" they call us, but actually look to us for solutions. We have many solutions for the problems that they have. A lot of what they wish for happens down here naturally without the government intervening.
The talk about White Privilege is turning whites against minorities. I don't understand why they can't see that.
Too be honest, I think all this talk about identity politics and new problems is just the product of people who have too much free times on their hands, thinking to freaking hard on subjects that really isn't a problem in the first place. Or I could be wrong, there is a more sinister motive to it.
Antifa comes along and equates words to violence, thus justifying their use of violence against anyone who show even a slight hint of being against their views. Then that escalates when the right decides to stand up to them, trying to show them what kind of hypocrites they are. Antifa is acting very similar to the brown shirts from the 1930's to the point, it is hard to separate them from actual real Nazi's from the 1930s.
When both of these sides collide, I just shake my head and sigh. They are feeding off each other, they are not going anywhere and people are being hurt because of it.
If the news media ignored these two sides, we wouldn't be here. Laugh at them and ignore them, don't do anything to them at all. Don't bring legitimacy to their arguments by attacking them.
Profit drives them, someone getting hurt be damn, they will still make a buck.
Also I don't like how the media publican shames people and sends the "Mobs" on people. People's lives are destroyed because of the media and when they are proven innocent, they move on without any correction or fixing the issue that they caused. We should allow people to sue the media for defamation because the media is getting wildly out of control and feel they are above the law.
I couldn't find any better example of this than what CNN said straight to our faces.
Let me find youtube video of what I am talking about.
Pratel... you don't know how ironic that is that Antifa is formed to fight brown shirts, but today they became the brown shirts.
Basically they say it is illegal for us to view stolen documents, but it is okay for them to view stolen documents. Basically they view themselves above the law.
A lot of those youtubers that the media nickname as "Alt-right" have good intentions, but their message has been corrupted by the media.
I like Timcast... even though I don't agree with him on all topics, I value his views that gives me alternative views to subjects. He does his research which I highly appreciate more than you realize. Most people don't do research and have kneejerk reactions to subjects.
That is one of the reason I appreciate Timcast as a source of news for me. I look at other news which has slants, then I compare to Timcast who I know does research it.
He doesn't allow his politics cloud his reporting of the news.
I wish the Mainstream Media would fire any activism and makes it against company policy to do activism, but I highly doubt I will ever see that.
Activism in my opinion clouds the subject and makes it harder to discern truth from fiction.
I hardly see journalist these days putting themselves in danger like back during world war 2, when they felt it is very important for people to see what is happening and they were willing to risk their lives for it.
Today journalists except for Timcast who has done that, are lazy and sit in their air conditioned buildings, filling in the gaps.
Why not just start a new NEWS organization that is based off objective truth, the real truth with real on the ground reporting like Timcast?
I was shadow banned from Twitter for talking about the constitution and advocating the protection our rights to engage each other.
I had to deactivate my account, because I was getting no response from twitter at all. I am not important enough.
I got so many ideas, so many opinions, and so many suggestions. Was taught it isn't wrong to throw ideas out there, because if we didn't do that, we wouldn't progress as a society.
Have you guys notice that Wikipedia is being altered?
Only term I mentioned the word... uh... it is a habit I am trying to break.
Since I know there is two terms of liberals... moderate liberals and classical liberals (Closer to actual real liberals.) So I been trying to break that habit.
He made a joke, he explained in his video that it was a joke. England's Judge basically did a Banana republic court on him. They acted like judge, jury, and execution against him. Even the Crown Persecutor said that the court he was prosecuted was illegal in its ruling and actions. Regardless if you hate him or not, he had his rights as a British citizen infringed upon by the British government.
Wait... I might be wrong, I might be conflaging two things together.
But it is still wrong how the government treated him.
They didn't consider context of his joke, then treated him wrong.
Regardless who he is and how much you hate him, they did do him wrong.
I think the internet bill of rights should mirror our bill of rights in the way, but adopted to use for internet.
Right to free exchange of ideas without being isolation or prosecution
Right to free expression without fearing for your life
Right to free speech without the fear of censorship
Right to creative enterprise without the fear of being coarse, intimidated, or shutdown
Right to own your own wealth without loosing it due to third parties
Right to free press without fear of being coarse, intimidated, or blackmailed
Basically we hammer it down so there is no wiggle room for misinterruptation by the social media, government, and mainstream news.
We have to keep moving, we can't stagnate due to fear of getting it wrong.
@Timcast What is your opinion on the internet bill of rights idea? Should we allow regulation which off-chance government can use regulations to control what we see, say, or do? Or should we go towards creating a bill of rights that could allow us to form a agreement with the government and social media corporations that they will allow us these rights, if they infringe upon these rights, they become open to being held accountable to the laws of the nation?
The bill of rights for internet in my opinion should in some way allow us to hold social media and government accountable when they infringe upon the right agreed upon. They won't loose control of their websites and corporations, but they will be held accountable if they infringe our rights.
I really think regulations isn't the way to go.
I think European draft idea is designed to milk the social media corporations and foreign citizens for all their worth in money. The way they phrase it scares me.
Are you kidding me, people would stop posting links anymore.
That one stood out to me, because all it is... they are trying to making it impossible to link while gaining as much money they can from it.
I notice a lot that the European union are trying to get as much money they can from Social Media companies, making the taxpayers from foreign nations pay for it all.
I have grown so much distain towards the European Union as of late.
They are becoming authoritative towards the nations under their umbrella and attacking nations outside that umbrella, namely United States in bid to force them to comply to what they want them to do.
I feel bad for nations like Britain for example.
European Union started out as a Trade Agreement...
There was nothing about the nations under it's umbrella giving up their sovereignty.
People seem to confuse the European Union and United Nations as one.
United Nations is a group of nations that came together to push back against encroaching Soviet Union.
News Flash... Soviet Union is dead and why should we keep United Nations together?
I think we should dissolve it and put up treaties in its place.
European Union and United Nations is nothing but centralizing power. Centralized powers always become corrupt.
My point does still stand... centralized power will end up corrupted always and it will be abused to bully the weaker nations.
Nations that try to pull away, always get attacked by the centralized powers that want to keep them under their control.
I notice once United States started to get weaken, all hell broke loose.
There would be too much red tape, Europe will crumble before they can attack Russia.
Only way that would happen if they dissolve all sovereignty of the nations under its umbrella and take control of all assets available.
I always found that free movement idea to be stupid.
