If someone feels the need to misgender me online, that's their problem not mine.
I have to agree with @Timcast that the new rule if he's representing it correctly will be troll bait
What do you mean by problem? If someone calls me the opposite sex am I supposed to get angry and try to make them pay for it?
I'm also enough of an English language purist to still subscribe to the basic rules of the language which include that, when in doubt, you use the male pronoun as generic
they are more like guide lines
Maybe they're guidelines now, but back when I went to school they were rules
And of course time froze at that point and everything since is illegitimate
no, they are literally guidelines
Oh, and *get off my lawn!*
how many people talk like how they write
:p
language is made up, literally. and constantly evolving
Nuff said
No. The English language at it existed when I completed 8th grade is unchanging and immutable. :p
I wonder what terms have been created since then
Oh, lord
Like everything
turns out the water heater for the floor above me is over my front door and was leaking
That's like 3500 a year
10 Tim points says 600 of those are genders
Shown its utility eh?
OMG
I hate that word.
We need those centrist donors.
Mansplain made its way into the dictionary at record speed, but when you type "gynocentrism", you will see that it gets a red squiggle, indicating that it's unrecognized.
Gynocentrism is a word that has existed since the 19th century.
How the hell did academia shift so far to the left
Which word makes it into the dictionary first?
It's ironic, though, because they reason why gynocentrism is not in the dictionary is an illustration of gynocentrism.
It's better not to upset the whammens.
Academia shifted to the left because we didn't care.
Most institutions shifted to the left, because the left tends to be more collective.
Collectives have an easier time taking over institutions.
You can see the same pattern among many corporations. Most of them were reasonably conservative and later shifted to the left, as they got nicer.
