ok, fair enough. I'll just say that I don't want to sow discord.
I apologise if that's true. I hope it is temporary
@InsaneCaterpilla "I think it's abhorrent that your opinion is that men are evil for trying to live their life to the fullest and do their best by the children they bring into this world". This idea is less weird when you think of it as saying that the reason we have children isn't so that we can play with them, but so that they can play with the world. If the world isn't good for the kid, then how does one justify childbirth?
What weirds me out is suggesting that the issues unique to men make the difference between "better to never have been" and not
As far as feminism being too powerful. Probably not. However, whether the MRM will ever be able to achieve some of its goals *is* a serious question. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW5lV5Xy2ic&feature=youtu.be&t=74
I think that's actually a wonderful debate topic
Better than antinatalism at any rate 😉
I like the video. I've never thought that men's rights would become accepted in the world today as it means society (and all the people in it) changing its views of men. But there is hope for the future to change things, little by little, to have our voices heard and make the future a little brighter day by day. I know us here have compassion for men. Others can learn to have it too.
As the video says, there doesn't need to be enough people like that for men's rights to be considered 'main stream'. Just enough to ensure that things go in the right direction and make things fairer for men in the world.
Haha, yeah, we don't have much of a disagreement there.
@Suzaku Kururugi A defensive pact with America, England, and Europe to shoot down any and all nukes coming their way. 😃
what?
do you mean NATO?
Literally anything that can shoot down incoming nukes would solve the problem.
they're working on lasers for that
Cool.
Are MRA's against suicide?
I think there are MRA's for and against euthanasia, which is what you mean as opposed to suicide. The fact that suicide is prevalent amongst men is used to point out that men are having problems in society and the way they are treated by it. Euthanasia by itself isn't a mens rights issue
While righttodie is something that would disproportionately affect men, I think the first thing that has to be looked at is "why the heck does this issue affect mostly men in the first place?"
I think that is why it ends up as an MRM issue. For instance, why are men more likely to be sleeping rough than women? It isn't all just a matter of government programs
Those issues are treated similarly in the MRM
And both are ~70% male
yeah, tent or sleeping bag
on the ground
As opposed to other forms of homelessness that involve actual beds mostly
That's kinda the point, though
There isn't necessarily anything wrong with sleeping rough. Generally though, people would want something better, though the reason they are sleeping rough is because they don't have the choice of better
And the situation leading up to it is bloody uncomfortable
So it's a men's rights issue
But a really complicated one
Same with suicide
Perhaps. I think eventually it will be. But MRAs are diverse. We can all agree that men have a suicide problem. I'm not so sure we can all agree on /r/sanctionedsuicide
We have pro-life people in the movement, and not a few of them
I agree with it
but hey
There's a pretty big difference between the mostly and the whole here
IIRC none of the other MRM issues are controversial within the MRM, with the sole possible exception of intactivism
And that's not anywhere near as controversial as righttodie would be. And it may be the case that most of the gender difference on this issue could end up being gotten rid of as mental health conditions for men improve.
I'm pro life.
Guess I'm anti suicide but
