I will say that there's a difference to allowing anyone in and making things easier to understand

But so far it is quite incomplete

not as great as 4 but still pretty good
D&D was smart to go with 5e
Something like AToW or Shadowrun is better suited to high complexity than D&D was and they hit a sweet spot here with ease to pick up while still keeping the core mechanics basically intact
The only real 'dumbed down' mechanic in 5e is flanking in combat, which is actually a great change that speeds encounters up
Mage the Awakening was pretty easy to pick up
5e was the only one I played with actual people and not as a crpg (mostly 3.5 TToEE there)
