Is it? I though stabilizing the barrel's direction was a common thing.

2018-01-16 22:23:33 UTC

stabbs are very common in most modern tanks and apc

2018-01-17 00:19:34 UTC

Yeah, this was basically part of a promo video from when the Leo 2 came out

2018-01-17 00:22:26 UTC

Even Shermans had stabs in WW2, just that they weren't particularly good (at least by comparison), required extensive training to use effectively, and (from what I've read) most crews just switched the damn thing off

There's a video of a British Centurion firing on the move with the stablizer on too

Regardless, I don't think many people appreciate just how effective stablizers can be, which the above video really highlights

Ah, British Pathe

2018-01-17 02:39:15 UTC

Kek

2018-01-17 15:38:35 UTC

Shermans only had 1 plane stabilization

2018-01-17 15:39:08 UTC

Which means it was easier to bring the gun on target after moving but still didn't allow accurate shots on the move

2018-01-17 15:59:48 UTC

@Reaps what are some of your war thunder highlights?

2018-01-18 02:13:54 UTC

Yea you shot

2018-01-18 02:17:36 UTC

2018-01-20 12:55:47 UTC

I shot an MG3 version of that gun, when I was in the navy, which had an annoying tendency for the ammo belt to get stuck, when firing like he does in the video. Also had to change the barrel fairly often, or you wouldn't hit a thing.

2018-01-20 13:07:10 UTC

5 dollars a round machine gun

2018-01-20 14:50:43 UTC

least the barrel is easy enough to change

2018-01-20 14:51:14 UTC

fun discovery: Germans kept using the MG-34 in most of their tanks because of the differences in how you change the barrel between that and the 42

2018-01-20 17:34:07 UTC

Yup

2018-01-20 17:35:08 UTC

To remove the barrel on the 42 you had to move it diagonally to the side which can't be done using a standard machine gun port

2018-01-20 23:41:55 UTC

*ancap intensifying*

2018-01-21 05:36:09 UTC
