Bottleneck has always been uninterested pawns.
At least the "I can't do shit" pawns are good bait for attacks.
What I like about it is how it's a strategy game where you don't have to worry much about micro management of everything.
I like these sort of games, they feel more real.
I wish Stellaris would be more like that.
I'm busy ruling the galaxy, why can't somebody else worry about where to build a fucking power plant on one specific planet?
I think the whole "planet tiles building mechanic" doesn't belongs to the game.
Even when you let the AI in charge of building things, all it does is build a fuck ton of farms and strongholds.

My problem with rim world was just getting going, seems things go wrong really quickly.
I got raided, one I had a solar panel blow up and burn everything down, once there was a nonstop heat wave that killed everybody
Heat waves are easy to handle if you have wood.
Another mod that you might want is the maintenance one. So shit stops breaking all the fucking time.
And it gives your builders something to do.
