The Civil Guard, is like the Italian *Carabineri* or French *Gendarmes*. It is more "paramilitary" branch of the police.
I dont think we really have that in the US
We have swat teams but those vary by city and county
They have jurisdiction in the control of Borders, Urban/Mountain areas, Coast and traffic. The National Police have jurisdiction in the Cities
While it was not amusing, it is interesting how the US people react to Secession done by other countries. It plays to well into American Narratives
Indeed, I've seen a lot of people, mostly Americans, draw parallels between the Catalonian and American independence movements. In my opinion they could not be more different
