Engineers have a general officer corp. They arnt really specialized. They actually lean more combat engineer but adapt to position

But thats most officer groups. Except maybe infantry and a few specialized like jag ect.

Prolly cause a degree is a plus for officer but there isnt a requirement for entry that its in the field. Its assumed they would persue one in the field during service.

2018-10-30 00:31:20 UTC

Fair enough.

I think the junior officers in my squadron were whatever when it came to their degree, but the senior staff were all engineers in *something*. Even "fire science"

2018-10-30 00:32:58 UTC

Which begs the question: Why is there a specialized degree for firefighting?

2018-10-30 00:33:13 UTC

phd in light em up

2018-10-30 00:36:15 UTC

@Fitzydog would you rather firefighters be under-qualified or overqualified

2018-10-30 00:36:49 UTC

I guess overqualified, but it seems more like an OJT apprenticeship kind of skillset, not a university classroom thing

2018-10-30 00:36:56 UTC

also my experience with fire-science style programs is that they're more likely to be hands-on style things

2018-10-30 00:37:09 UTC

like, I did what was technically a college course for EMR, but it was definitely hands-on

2018-10-30 00:37:44 UTC

got the impression it was the same for their fire science program, judging by all the firefighting gear they had lying around

2018-10-30 00:39:07 UTC

Wouldnt that be like a degree for fire investigators?

2018-10-30 00:39:22 UTC

... good point!

2018-10-30 00:41:07 UTC

that too

2018-10-30 06:22:29 UTC

2018-10-30 06:22:44 UTC

QAnon is a better source of news than Vice tbh

2018-10-30 06:44:28 UTC

Vice actually has some really good stuff, but it has been less and less over time. The thing is a lot of their projects are journalists who basically come up with the whole piece themselves and are sponsored by Vice, so they've ended up with a real mixture of things. So a lot of people have only really looked at a vice story when it was done by a lefty journo who's more of an activist than a journalist and so they assume that's everything Vice has done.

2018-10-30 06:46:48 UTC

But in reality there is no one story of theirs which you could say characterizes every other one.

2018-10-30 07:01:06 UTC

I liked some of their stuff on drugs a while back

2018-10-30 07:01:11 UTC
