Southamerica and Mexico go far beyond mere veneration, but if we were to be triggered into disdain by the retardation of whatever group, we wouldn't even be christians

2019-04-25 21:16:43 UTC

I just don’t get why those practices are not outlawed

2019-04-25 21:17:20 UTC

Witches outside churches even demand that you don’t take pictures because it “scares the spirits”

2019-04-25 21:17:41 UTC

It’s probably so they don’t get reported

I understand plain veneration, Bible is clear Mary was blessed among women, regardless of assumption or immaculate conception, or any other theological point of contention. She's not on par with Jesus, and even the sects that don't go full heresy claiming co-redemptrix still treat her with far more than her due.

2019-04-25 21:35:04 UTC

The word co-redemptrix doesn't have to have a meaning as big as you are imagining

2019-04-25 21:35:04 UTC

Strictly speaking, Mary should be a minor figure at the foot of the cross regardless of any miraculous gifts given to her

2019-04-25 21:35:47 UTC

From what I've heard from those who ascribe to that way of thought, it does

2019-04-25 21:36:59 UTC

I talked to a girl a few months ago who basically said she viewed Mary as God instead of Jesus because it's "hard for her to trust men," and she had a fucking breakdown when I told her that was super heretical

2019-04-25 21:37:44 UTC

That is why I agree that in many places things have completely gotten out of hand

2019-04-25 21:39:27 UTC

She was blessed, she was not an aspect of God, and she died for no sins. Memorial is good, she was important in the life of Jesus, but in the redemption story she's not that significant, and that's ok

2019-04-25 21:39:28 UTC

Latin America as a whole has trash pagan influences all over

2019-04-25 21:39:38 UTC

Ehhhhjj

2019-04-25 21:39:50 UTC

She's pretty important to the redemption story man

2019-04-25 21:39:58 UTC

I think he means

2019-04-25 21:40:01 UTC

I mean, physically yes

2019-04-25 21:40:22 UTC

In the sense of having some nature or aspect that enables redemption

2019-04-25 21:40:30 UTC

She's like #2 in importance

2019-04-25 21:40:32 UTC

Oh, yeah

2019-04-25 21:40:56 UTC

After Jesus

2019-04-25 21:41:01 UTC

But narratively she's a very minor character, there wasn't all that much we were meant to draw from her beyond the story of the conception and birth of christ, and some tidbits after

2019-04-25 21:41:02 UTC

I assume we're talking people here

2019-04-25 21:41:17 UTC

Yeah, but historically those parts have been given a very high importance

2019-04-25 21:41:40 UTC

Especially with the interpretation of Revelation's Woman

2019-04-25 21:42:46 UTC

John, Paul, Peter, all vastly outweigh her in biblical importance. Having a small role doesn't make her any less vital, but there are a lot of figures in the Bible like that.

2019-04-25 21:43:52 UTC

I would disagree. They are important so far as the message goes for Christianity, but the significance of being picked to raise God as your child is far more significant IMO and the fathers agree with me

2019-04-25 21:44:41 UTC

Isn't there mentions in revelation? But anyways, I don't think it is that important that someone puts emphasis on some or other person.

2019-04-25 21:45:09 UTC

The woman in revelation with the crown of stars has been interpreted by many to be Mary

2019-04-25 21:45:09 UTC

She's blessed among women, being of a relative few who played vital roles in the salvation story (taken to the beginning), but I'm speaking narratively here. No matter how important and vital was to the life of Christ, there is only so much we as Christians are meant to glean from her.

2019-04-25 21:46:01 UTC

Otherwise her role would have beenmore prominent on a scale comperable to Peter, Paul, or John

2019-04-25 21:46:12 UTC

Yes, but among the Protestant side of things, there is a matter of combatting false doctrine by emphasizing true doctrine that need be done.

2019-04-25 21:47:10 UTC

Furthermore, I am not speaking of her role in the redemption but rather favor from God. She was picked for a very special role that nobody else in history received.

2019-04-25 21:51:46 UTC

Yeah, which is why I think memorial is merited. Just not elevation. Veneration isn't terrible so long as it points to the right place, but Mary has morphed into an end unto herself in a lot of tradition

2019-04-25 21:52:53 UTC

Most of this is Hispanic Catholicisim's fault, but even the greater church has had its moments. The servites in particular are bad about it.
