I understand plain veneration, Bible is clear Mary was blessed among women, regardless of assumption or immaculate conception, or any other theological point of contention. Typically outside of strict Christian tradition she is little more than a stand in for the local goddess or spirit that can no longer be publically worshipped. Even in Christian nations now it leaks into standing in for raw feminist theory (feminism being the prime paganism of the first world).
