Been looking for more groups like this tbh, idk how much I can contribute, but I need a community of *men* in both the Godly and physical sense to keep me sorted, and my church is a cluster right now

Even just shitposting with good folks is a refreshing change of pace at this point...

Absolute mess right now tbh, the whole conflagration of hell it seems is trying to break me down lately and to be perfectly honest it's doing a bang-up Job. Started back in fall, classes cut me off from the one reliable, supportive group of christians I had, when I finally got back, most of them had left for their own churches (it was an interchurch college-age group) and I was left without a spiritual home. I tried going back to my church, but despite solid biblical teaching some bad things have been seeping into the structure of the church, and the poison is such I have a hard time even showing up knowing what I know.

As I was struggling through that, my girlfriend's mom got surprise stage 4 stomach cancer, and I've been doing my best to support them as best I can, but it really dealt a blow to the fragile spiritual state. In the midst of all this, some unknown physical and mental affliction has woken up in me. Part of it is severe carpal tunnel that's been rendering my hands occasionally useless at work. Much of it is stuff I don't even know how to diagnose. My insides are falling apart, my body just goes into contortions and spasms, my ability to process information is starting to decay, I don't know what to do, I'm barely holding together

I know God is there, that there is a plan in this, but I just feel so alone I want to give in and just let myself die

Have this as a prize from a church raffle I won a couple years back, feel free to use it as you will, haven;t done anything with it in years so I'd love to hear takes on it

People's visions of heaven always fascinate me, how complex and grand they always seem to be

Nothing wrong with that at all of course

But I've always seen deceptive simplicity in the nature of God

I feel like heaven will be much closer to the Garden than the kingdoms of men and the dreams those kingdoms have instilled

In the presence of Christ, what mysteries could we still claim worth pursuing?

I think rather it will be something more akin to the building of an eternal cathedral

We were created to worship and glorify God, and there is worship in all we do

I think we will be given all we need to do our part in building that eternal temple so that we may labor in joy and peace in that which we love, in the way that best brings glory to Him on high

The mason will forever hew stones of majesty, the artist paint perfectly images to revel in His grace, the singer given the space to sing songs of praise in one accord, in every tongue and yet in harmony

I don't think perfection is going to be perpetual understanding or learning, but a sort of Chestertonian perpetual newness

God will continue to create to His glory and pleasure, but he is also the same God who has raised and set the sun from before the first breath of man

True heaven isn't a constant string of answered questions and new amusements, it's the freedom of the everyday miracle never growing mundane and the ability to see the sun rise and set for all of eternity, and still gleefully say with the Father "again!"

I think most of gnosticism today is Japan's fault tbh

like, it's always been around, but Japan's views towards Christian tradition are fascinating

They are very much academically fascinated by it, so all kinds of obscure mysticism leaks into their pop culture

and then you end up with shows like Evangelion, which admittedly only uses Gnosticism as an aesthetic

but then people start copying

and then that stuff bleeds into US and therefore world culture through weeaboos in hollywood

and you end up with shows that edgy retarded teenage girls base their made up personal cults on like Supernatural

and then that mixes into popular discourse as "lost knowledge" when really it's been dismissed for over a thousand years as herresy and nonsense

That's been a thing since the 60s though, when the new age movement legitimized all the late spiritualists of the 50s

the gnostic streak is fairly new, at least removed from early 20th century spiritualism and its impact on stuff like Wicca

I've never been able to get behind the monotone of the liturgical psalms. It sounds cool in Latin and all, but it really doesn't capture the spirit of the texts. In the effort to make them more universal it strips the unique joys and sorrows from the context.
