Oh man I missed all the prophet talk. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons for short) and we believe that our church is lead by a modern day prophet named Russell M. Nelson. He is the 17th in an unbroken chain of prophets that began with Joseph Smith in 1830. When he was a young boy, Joseph was shown a vision wherein he saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, who told him that many of the simple truths Christ had taught when he was on the earth had been lost or become corrupted. They called him to be a prophet, instructed him to restore Christ’s original church, calling Apostles to help him, and sent him many heavenly visitors to restore the fullness of the gospel, including the Priesthood power that had been lost when Christ’s ancient apostles were slain. They also gave him ancient scriptures from a people that had traveled to the Americas from Jerusalem, which contained the teachings of Christ that had been lost from the Bible, and had him translate it, into what we know today as the Book of Mormon (Mormon being an ancient prophet, one of the last to write in the scriptures), which is why people call us Mormons.
Among those who visited Joseph and the early members of the church were John the Baptist, Moses, Gabriel, Elisha, Moroni (an ancient American prophet) and Elijah, and they restored to him and the apostles the keys of Gods kingdom upon the earth. After Joseph’s martyrdom, the most senior apostle, Brigham Young, was proclaimed to be the new prophet, new apostles were called, and ever since when a prophet dies, the most senior apostles is called to be the prophet.

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and it teaches of a people that fled Jerusalem in 600 BC, and were guided by God to the Americas. They had many prophets, visions, wars, and were visited by the risen Christ. After His Resurrection and ascension to heaven, Jesus Christ appeared unto the righteous of those in the Americas, and taught them everything he had taught his disciples in Jerusalem. After a short time with them, He ascended again to heaven, and the people lived in peace for many generations, until wickedness again spread, which eventually lead to a war between the believers of Christ and the unbelievers, which resulted in the destruction of the believers because of their wickedness, around 400 years after Christ’s visit.
The Book of Mormon is evidence that God speaks to all His children, both anciently and today, and is proof that a Prophet lives today, and gives us direction and understanding in these chaotic times before Christ returns. Anyone who earnestly reads the Book of Mormon and prays with sincerity of heart can receive a witness for themselves, as I have, that it is the word of God, that He speaks to us today, and that the Church of Jesus Christ is His church, set up to establish the kingdom of God throughout all the earth.

I know that’s a metric ton to sort through, but if you’re at all curious, I’d recommend visiting Mormon.org for any questions you may have, or to request a free copy of the Book of Mormon. It’s only 500 pages, so if you made it through JP’s book you can make it through this one.

First off we don't need a priesthood anymore. Jesus is our High King and Priest; because he fulfilled that role when he died, and was raised from the dead. The whole reason for the priesthood in the first place was to setup a system that pointed to Jesus, and what he would do on the cross.

@Railingo the Priesthood is the power and authority to act in God’s name; it is the power by which miracles are performed. It is the power by which Christ raised Lazarus from the dead, Peter and John healed a lame man, Moses parted the Red Sea, and Elijah called down fire upon the priests of Baal. I have seen this power for myself, both through blessing of healing and through revelation given to me by those holding the priesthood.
But to your point, if the whole purpose of the priesthood is to point us towards Christ and His Atonement (which I 100% agree with), why would we no longer need it today?

I have seen laymen do the same things; because they have the power of Christ, and not because they're priests.
