2019-01-01 01:16:00 UTC

Full of entrepreneurial capitalist enterprises

2019-01-01 01:16:46 UTC

See you in hell or in communism.

2019-01-01 01:17:53 UTC

Why did you turn your back on America?

2019-01-01 01:18:29 UTC

What makes you think I ever trusted America?

2019-01-01 01:19:40 UTC

Well, it’s hard to imagine being conditioned to be communist in Ohio from birth, so I imagined you started out like most american kids do, loving freedom, and then for whatever reason gravitated towards communism and anti-Americanism

2019-01-01 01:20:34 UTC

As far back as I've cared, I've been anti-American.

2019-01-01 01:21:11 UTC

oh damn hitler got doxxed

2019-01-01 01:23:28 UTC

Are you a minority or non heterosexual? Are your parents hippies? So before you took up communism you still just hated america. Do you plan on moving away if possible? Or would it be better to try and change America for you?

2019-01-01 01:26:35 UTC

Straight white suburbanite, nice try. My parents were never very political. Mostly just centrist.

2019-01-01 01:26:58 UTC

The thing that made me start to hate America was learning history.

2019-01-01 01:28:28 UTC

I mean, just google Guatemala's silent genocide or how the USA backed death squads in El Salvador.

2019-01-01 01:32:30 UTC

I could see that plausibly, and I’ve almost fell to that same mentality, but don’t you consider every nation has had such dark parts in their history? And besides, interventionist non isolationist policy started poking its head out of the door in the very beginning of the 20th century and took off in the middle after WW2, (for very justifiable reasons at the time period might I add)

But one thing we can say about the USA that we can’t say for the rest of the world, is we have more freedom, more transparency, and have done more than most countries to right our wrongs.

2019-01-01 01:33:34 UTC

Give an example.

2019-01-01 01:34:14 UTC

And not to mention it’s pretty clear to see out of the experiments we ran on countries with the USSR what belief served the populace more, and that would be capitalism.

2019-01-01 01:34:21 UTC

An example of us fighting a wrong?

2019-01-01 01:34:32 UTC

Righting*

2019-01-01 01:34:46 UTC

Yes

2019-01-01 01:35:31 UTC

And why not cite examples of ALL your claims?

2019-01-01 01:36:48 UTC

The USA did not stay isolationist. Ever hear of the American annexation of the Philippines?

2019-01-01 01:36:54 UTC

Another thing I take issue with is that you are excusing what wrong we've done because other countries may have wronged just as much in the past.

2019-01-01 01:37:43 UTC

"It's okay that we supported two different genocides because some other countries also did bad things!"
Reeks of whataboutism.

2019-01-01 01:37:49 UTC

Plessy V. Ferguson —> Brown V. Board of education —> more expansive civil rights laws of the 60s for a domestic example, also the apology and and reimbursement of the Japanese interned in the 40s, and the Marshall plan and rebuilding Germany and Japan is a good example abroad.

2019-01-01 01:38:40 UTC

I know we didn’t stay isolationist, I never said otherwise. I said we dropped it starting in the 20th century and fully abandoned post WW2

2019-01-01 01:38:56 UTC

So the US had to expand civil rights through court cases because just obeying the Constitution was too hard, huh?

2019-01-01 01:40:15 UTC

And the Philippine-American war ended in 1898, so there's your 'started in the 20th century'.

2019-01-01 01:42:08 UTC

Well yes. This is the issue that our country was divided on since its inception. Constitutional affairs have never been quite so cut and dry. It took nearly two centuries, but the power of our system enabled us to reach that point. And that’s basically splitting hairs. It’s the ass end of the 19th century/very beginning of the 20th. And during that time period we were only trying to keep up with the contemporary colonial powers of the time.

2019-01-01 01:43:34 UTC

Also, the inherent contradiction of slavery and colonialism and the constitution from the start was already dissolving the latter institutions. It didn’t last very long. Americans colonial history is a blip compared to some the other big European colonial machines.

2019-01-01 01:46:45 UTC

America doesn't get a bad rep for colonialism because they didn't directly take the land.
They set up puppets instead.
