the bar has been lowered to the point where hate crime is 1) purely based on perception, and 2) the police solicit it and actually prompt people to ask if something is
yeah ok so you have your own reasons. so far as the guy on LBC i am not buying it
It has increased year on year
The definitions don’t change much year on year
And they increased at a steady rate
i experienced that myself, when my bike was stolen they asked if it was potentially a hate incident based on my sexuality or race
Why can’t you post fucking pictures
In this stupid channel
it was stolen from a train station while i was 70 miles away working, theres not even any vague potential for that to have been a hate crime, but they asked anyway - and people have been trained to understand it's easy victim points and will get treated more seriously
Yes yes your anecdotes and theory are relevant I’m sure
But the stats show a steady increase over the past 5 years
thats an actual experience as opposed to your bias against brexit voters
As opposed to me looking real figures
At real*
you assume that hate incidents have increased in real terms despite the bar being lowered to the lowest possible point
Smh
If the bar had been lowered to lowest possible level
which it has, it's perception based
There wouldn’t be a steady increase without an actual increase in hate crimes
So either way I’m right
Well it’s common sense
1) make it very easy, 2) encourage people to use it. that will obviously raise figures despite not being representative of the country becoming more 'hateful'
If the bar is already at its lowest and their is no increase in crimes then it should be flat
But it’s not flat
Urgo, obviously there are more hate crimes...
PEP moving away? Fantastic! Another traitor gone <:hypersmugon:544638648721604608>
you're missing the point that people are being encouraged to report things as hate incidents
Smh
-even though they arent- because -its perception based so you can say whatever you fucking like- knowing that the police then have to treat it more seriously
hence hate incident parking disputes
We should just decriminalise hate crimes
You’ve just ignored what I said
Only charge people that actually commit crimes, We don't need to further complicate everything by also charging them with a hate crime
you're saying the figures have gone up, but the figures are based on encouragement of reporting almost anything as a hate incident
plus people these days are more easily offended, and its easy for a poc to scream racist at a whitey
at the same time more and more things people say are being classed as unacceptable - a moving target, hence we see someone getting hounded out of a job and then losing a court battle over it after stating a scientific fact
The figures have gone up, by a barely significant margin tbh
it's all bullshit, and especially the perception based element has to go
Hate crimes should be scrapped tbh
can someone direct me to where i can find what the current definition of a hate crime is?
