@Simp I'd rather walk off a short pier than come back to them.

2019-12-09 01:35:53 UTC

@Enkrum if papal supremacy was true though, what grounds would you have to not

2019-12-09 01:36:01 UTC

I'm not saying I want to be a Catholic

2019-12-09 01:36:05 UTC

I dont

2019-12-09 01:37:10 UTC

That'd be an unfortunate revelation.

2019-12-09 01:38:02 UTC

I agree that there is no basis for it lmao

2019-12-09 01:38:08 UTC

That's why I became Orthodox

2019-12-09 01:38:16 UTC

I was from birth.

2019-12-09 01:38:27 UTC

Specifically the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

2019-12-09 01:38:41 UTC

Nice

2019-12-09 01:38:51 UTC

I was an atheist for the majority of my life

2019-12-09 01:38:57 UTC

Was quite unfortunate

2019-12-09 01:39:23 UTC

When I asked my Pastor about church supremacy or whatever the concept that the church founded on a rock thing, he said it was referencing the holy church which encompasses all churches loyal to God, not a single denomination

2019-12-09 01:41:07 UTC

```In the Letters of the Second Ecumenical Council of Nicea, the Roman Church is referred to as the "head of all churches" twice; at the same time it affirms Christ to be the head of the Church, and the Apostle Peter is referred to as the "chief [of the] Apostles" – but when listed with Paul they are together referred to as the "chief apostles."```
2019-12-09 01:41:32 UTC
Catholic literally means universal
2019-12-09 01:41:41 UTC
It is all churches
2019-12-09 01:42:01 UTC
So all churches are Catholic chuches
2019-12-09 01:42:02 UTC
Rad
2019-12-09 01:42:12 UTC
There's a difference between the Church Catholic (Universal) and the Roman Catholic Church
2019-12-09 01:42:46 UTC
Not really
2019-12-09 01:42:53 UTC
The officials name of the Orthodox church is the Orthodox Catholic church is it not?
2019-12-09 01:43:07 UTC
It is, but they are in schism so they aren't Catholic
2019-12-09 01:43:32 UTC
What makes you so sure Rome isnt the one in schism
2019-12-09 01:43:43 UTC
Because it's always been regarded as superior
2019-12-09 01:44:10 UTC
It was 'persecuted' by the Byzantines because it wouldn't submit
2019-12-09 01:44:30 UTC
That's why the east disavowed it at first
2019-12-09 01:45:54 UTC
Was it viewed that way for theologically justified reasons?
2019-12-09 01:45:59 UTC
Or was it for political ones
2019-12-09 01:46:12 UTC
Given its proximity to the major powers of Europe
2019-12-09 01:46:24 UTC
Which gave it infinitely more influence
2019-12-09 01:47:00 UTC
Especially because their communications weren't translated from Greek, which often lead to misinterpretation which lead to tension
2019-12-09 01:48:15 UTC
It was theological mostly
2019-12-09 01:48:23 UTC
```Irenaeus of Lyons believed in the second century that Peter and Paul had been the founders of the Church in Rome and had appointed Linus as succeeding bishop```

2019-12-09 01:48:42 UTC

Then we had the papacy preaching papal supremacy of course

2019-12-09 01:49:29 UTC

Read the thing I quoted on the Council of Nicea as well

2019-12-09 01:50:49 UTC

But is it not cited that the first stage of the Schism began because of the Catholic Church closing down Churches of the Byzantine Rite in what is composed of contemporary Italy, which resulted in the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople to excommunicate them in return.

2019-12-09 01:51:51 UTC

Was I pinged?

2019-12-09 01:52:26 UTC

@Perception Religion daily question

2019-12-09 01:52:41 UTC

What is your view on what *is* hell?

2019-12-09 01:52:55 UTC

Oh so its because of the role i have

2019-12-09 01:53:17 UTC

Hell, for sure, isn’t the boiling cauldron that’s commonly depicted in most media.
