Which meant a lot of teachers were doubling as english tutors while also trying to teach their actual courses
I don't have beef with the students, but with the college for being more concerned with getting money from international students than with actual classroom functionality
I had a student in our first "write a news" assignment class thing
hand in a stolen AP article
because he didn't understand that he had to do his own reporting
dude was from fuckin' china and intended to return there with his *journalism degree*
1) what
2) why
3) fucking hell
That is a China thing @King Canuck
@SideTracker you nasty
yeah, our indian students picked things up fast
their pronounciations got a little freud-y
but they picked up the skills no problem
@JackH670 why?
What they do for essays and the like in uni there, is they copy the best authoritative source they can find
Chinese making cheap knockoffs
Imagine my shock
We had a syrian student pronounce "protest" as "prostate"
on live tv
it was brutal
she was **told** to rehearse
but she was like, 40, and didn't want to listen to the students or the prof
Prostate
Milk it
eww
behave
"THE STOODENT PROSTATE THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT"
That's gay
she would speak with a normal tone
but on camera IT WAS
YELLING. WITH ODD PAUSES.
AND SUDDEN. MISPRONOUNCIATIONS.
We couldn't figure out how to help her
she tried using a quote nearly six years old from a story unrealted to her assignment
it took 5 minutes for me to find the guy she wanted a quote from, call him, and have him give a better quote
fucking lazy-ass motherfuckers
or as the Law and Ethics in Journalism prof called them
