But yeah, my beefs with international students really aren't against them, but against the fact colleges are willing to accept fucktons of students who will need more work than those natively born here to get up to the standard, especially in a speaking-and-writing area like journalism, without taking into account how that might make teaching harder for professors and learning harder for other students.
There were a lot of skills I was hoping to improve on, or learn from some of the experts that were teaching us, that I wasn't able to because 3/4 of my section were catching up on high school level english literacy, and that was obviously more important, and I say that seriously and legitimately thinking that myself. It's more important for them to get up to the standard and begin to learn than it is for me to learn further.... But the third year that I was in is optional, and I had intended to use it to improve myself. I
oh, wrong chat
but for more context, my college had like 5,000 international students this past school year
...outnumbering native leaf students
Which meant a lot of teachers were doubling as english tutors while also trying to teach their actual courses
I don't have beef with the students, but with the college for being more concerned with getting money from international students than with actual classroom functionality
I had a student in our first "write a news" assignment class thing
hand in a stolen AP article
because he didn't understand that he had to do his own reporting
dude was from fuckin' china and intended to return there with his *journalism degree*
1) what
2) why
3) fucking hell
That is a China thing @King Canuck
@SideTracker you nasty
their pronounciations got a little freud-y
but they picked up the skills no problem
@JackH670 why?
What they do for essays and the like in uni there, is they copy the best authoritative source they can find
Chinese making cheap knockoffs
Imagine my shock
they consider the reading of that source and the finding of it to be the assignement
We had a syrian student pronounce "protest" as "prostate"
on live tv
it was brutal
she was **told** to rehearse
but she was like, 40, and didn't want to listen to the students or the prof
Prostate
Milk it
eww
behave
"THE STOODENT PROSTATE THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT"
That's gay
she would speak with a normal tone
but on camera IT WAS
