2019-09-12 23:26:40 UTC

why do people keep putting links

2019-09-12 23:34:45 UTC

nowhere else to put them i guess

2019-09-12 23:34:48 UTC

for some people here

2019-09-12 23:37:55 UTC

@Belisarius its hard to imagine a foreign name equating to anything besides the migration of people. But I supposed you are right, maybe her parents just picked the name Yasmin Alibhai at random and it has nothing to do with being derived from a foreign culture.

2019-09-12 23:38:21 UTC

you can like

2019-09-12 23:38:24 UTC

not be so snarky lmao

2019-09-12 23:39:11 UTC

But I guess one would first have to accept that there is a historical context to a british identity, least their is no foundation for calling anything foriegn.

2019-09-12 23:41:38 UTC

what I *meant* was that you were equating-- falsely-- immigration with neoliberalism. Clearly, there was immigration before neoliberalism. Does neoliberalism facilitate *mass* immigration? Yeah, it can of course. But then again, there were also muslims and sikhs living as a small minority in Victorian Britain. What I'm trying to say is laying the immigration of any "suspected foreigner" and their subsequent existence as a British citizen/resident of the UK on the feet of neoliberalism strikes me as wrong. Indeed, it strikes me as vaguely prejudiced

2019-09-12 23:42:16 UTC

I'd also like to point out that you don't know the first thing of what I believe, or that I disagree that the British identity lacks a historical context. Of course it has one.

2019-09-12 23:43:17 UTC

Honestly I think my main conceit is that while I'm on "your side", or Sargon's "side" it seems like there's also a lot of really fucking lazy arguments for this side that need to be reevaluated. Its like half of us lost the plot on what *we* believe in our haste to react to what the other side says.

2019-09-12 23:45:37 UTC

You bring up some solid points, Ill try to get back to you when I can.

2019-09-12 23:45:49 UTC

And I don't mean to sound gatekeeper-y there. its hardly my place to be arbiter of good and bad arguments but its certainly my right to point out potential problems i guess

2019-09-12 23:45:55 UTC

alright man, take care

2019-09-13 02:22:34 UTC

oh shit

2019-09-13 02:25:35 UTC

Hmm?

2019-09-13 02:27:20 UTC

so if you repeatedly tell someone "call me before you come over"

2019-09-13 02:27:27 UTC

and they like call but if you dont answer they just come over anyway

2019-09-13 02:27:35 UTC

and like if you dont answer your door they like knock on your windows and shit

2019-09-13 02:27:51 UTC

thats fucking wierd, right?

2019-09-13 02:27:55 UTC

like im not asshole here, am i?
