what I *meant* was that you were equating-- falsely-- immigration with neoliberalism. Clearly, there was immigration before neoliberalism. Does neoliberalism facilitate *mass* immigration? Yeah, it can of course. But then again, there were also muslims and sikhs living as a small minority in Victorian Britain. What I'm trying to say is laying the immigration of any "suspected foreigner" and their subsequent existence as a British citizen/resident of the UK on the feet of neoliberalism strikes me as wrong. I think the idea of tolerating the presence of others and retaining the right to hold your own views is very different from being asked to "accept" something, which is to say to change your thinking. Acceptance should be your personal choice to make, not something mandated by others.

maybe. ultimately history is an evolutionary process i think. institutions decay over time, and are replaced by new ones. the revolution at the end-- if there is one-- is just the most visible tail-end of a long process. I like to think history ultimately vindicates the right side even if it takes a long time. so I guess we'll just have to see.
