I’m happy women’s rights have progressed the south needed it

2018-11-22 22:19:32 UTC

You can get all kinds of cool information about what diseases you might inherit, what behaviors you're predisposed to, etc.

2018-11-22 22:19:36 UTC

Women were literally slaves

2018-11-22 22:19:44 UTC

I don't really care about the ancestry stuff because I know I'm white

2018-11-22 22:19:50 UTC

At least the poor folk

2018-11-22 22:20:18 UTC

Nah man you've got white privlege and you need to pay for dem programs

2018-11-22 22:20:29 UTC

Nothing bad ever happened to white people

2018-11-22 22:20:31 UTC

it's science

2018-11-22 22:20:47 UTC

My grandmother tells stories about her mom winning an award at the county fair for making overalls out of sackcloth

2018-11-22 22:20:59 UTC

She white tho so she gotta pay up

2018-11-22 22:21:20 UTC

I do know on my mom’s side her paternal grandfather was in the Oklahoma land run of 1893. He came from Northern Kentucky where his father was a Union soldier taken prisoner at Andersonville at 13 years old.

2018-11-22 22:21:26 UTC

My grandpa was one of 14 kids in Arkansas, wore hand me down dresses till he was 6 and bags on his feet cos they were so poor

2018-11-22 22:21:31 UTC

Ouch Andersonville

2018-11-22 22:21:32 UTC

My paternal side of my family emigrated from Eastern Europe around the 19th century, iirc

2018-11-22 22:21:43 UTC

You guys know all these detailed stories about your grandparents and I barely even knew my grandparents

2018-11-22 22:21:51 UTC

@missliterallywho Arkansas ehh that’s cool

2018-11-22 22:21:55 UTC

I have an ancestor from Switzerland that we all thought was French because of his last name

2018-11-22 22:21:59 UTC

Delachaux

2018-11-22 22:22:02 UTC

Tbh I like being a melange of New England bluebloods and southern sharecroppers

2018-11-22 22:22:05 UTC

Comfy

2018-11-22 22:22:19 UTC

@Sam Anderson Can confirm, I'm Swedish and my mom is from MN. There are lots of Swedes and Germans there.

2018-11-22 22:22:21 UTC

@Isabella Locke-MT the westernmost part of Switzerland is francophone

2018-11-22 22:22:23 UTC

@Isabella Locke-MT well he probably was ethnically French, I don't think "Swiss" is an ethnicity

2018-11-22 22:22:29 UTC

His kid moved to London and his kid moved to the US

2018-11-22 22:22:29 UTC

My mom thought her maiden name was French-- nope, post Norman conquest Anglo.

2018-11-22 22:22:32 UTC

Romandie, it’s called

2018-11-22 22:22:43 UTC

Some people think my last name is French

2018-11-22 22:22:59 UTC

@Jacob I know what your last name is and they’re retarded

2018-11-22 22:23:14 UTC

I mean I see why they would think that

2018-11-22 22:23:29 UTC

I don’t

2018-11-22 22:23:41 UTC

Some people even capitalize the third letter because they think it's like a separate word lol

2018-11-22 22:24:02 UTC

I can speak French and I don’t think your name sounds remotely French. If I had to guess I would have probably said Hungarian tho.

2018-11-22 22:24:06 UTC

@Jacob I barely knew my grandparents too, just have a couple stories from my mom's side.

2018-11-22 22:24:27 UTC

My last name does exist in Hungary, so that's a reasonable guess

2018-11-22 22:24:40 UTC

Most of what I know has been independent research

2018-11-22 22:25:03 UTC

I barely know my grandparents on my dad's side, they both died when I was pretty young. But my grandmother's family was German

2018-11-22 22:25:10 UTC

I found out my great grandfather wasn’t biological so I’ve been carrying the wrong family name

2018-11-22 22:25:32 UTC

I love doing genealogy research. I’ve thought about doing pro-bono research for IE members since I have a real-Nina ancestry.com sub but that would require them to give me a lot of person information

2018-11-22 22:25:41 UTC

Which they might be uncomfortable with

2018-11-22 22:25:47 UTC

My mom's bad relationship with her mom and then my parents' divorce is the reason I don't know any of my relatives

2018-11-22 22:25:48 UTC

@ophiuchus Id be open to it
