It didn't happen on a single day or anything like that, it gradually occurred over the course of years between 1912 and the 1940s (seriously, something like this is a very gradual process)

I agree that people sometimes get overly dramatic about some things; but if it's gotten to the point where you're "losing count" of how many people are leaving you, maybe the problem's on you rather than them.
