2020-10-12 21:34:47 UTC

scroll up

2020-10-12 21:34:52 UTC

i gave my answer

2020-10-12 21:35:00 UTC

and then a couple of people re worded it

2020-10-12 21:35:23 UTC

I believe the saying is meant to say that only a small number of people will actually understand and follow the true teachings of Christ, thus making only "one out of a thousand" or "two out of ten thousand" being the true followers of Jesus.

2020-10-12 21:36:31 UTC

and as the population grows larger then u get a society that perpetuates and justifies evil

2020-10-12 21:37:23 UTC

like a single apple can spoil the bunch

2020-10-12 21:37:58 UTC

It's not that unrealistic of a number, only around 30% of the planets total population is Christian, and that in itself is divided into thousands of different denominations which interpret Christianity differently, or even come up with entirely new texts; Like the Mormons.

2020-10-12 21:39:01 UTC

and dont even get started on the false prophets and cults

2020-10-12 21:55:49 UTC

The Mor[m]ons

2020-10-12 21:56:11 UTC

the basis of their religion is a placemat from the ancient Egyptian equivalent of a McDonalds

2020-10-12 22:37:38 UTC

@gorgonzhola maybe it is a guess on the ratio, referring to God's method of how he chooses a perfect example like Jesus.

2020-10-12 22:56:09 UTC

Biblical Question: he meant only a few people will truly be Christian and follow God. Do not be surprised the world hates God.

2020-10-13 02:49:26 UTC

Jesus was trying to tell us that he ain’t gonna pick everybody who wanna come.

2020-10-13 02:51:30 UTC

> ***__What did Jesus mean when he said: “Out of 1,000 I’ll choose one of you, and out of 10,000 I’ll choose two of you." __*** @everyone
@gorgonzhola

He was referring to Price's law

2020-10-13 05:33:27 UTC

is it ok to doubt Thomas?

2020-10-13 11:16:31 UTC

The Apostle Thomas did not write "The Gospel of Thomas". It is a Gnostic text, not in the Bible--and for a reason--it is false and heretical. Gnosticism was one of the earliest assaults on the Church, even being referenced in the New Testament itself

2020-10-14 00:51:31 UTC

Out of 1,000 he chooses 1
Out of 10,000 he chooses 2
Out of 100,000 he chooses 3 and so on.

It means being a follower of Christ and God is a lonely road as you deal with many nonbelievers of the world.

2020-10-14 22:03:12 UTC

Where do i find this text

2020-10-15 03:27:59 UTC

somewhere

2020-10-15 03:45:08 UTC

Oppenheimer pretty mad about the Gospel of Thomas.
@AsherFOE https://www.marquette.edu/maqom/Gospel%20of%20Thomas%20Lambdin.pdf I believe you can read it here.

2020-10-15 04:30:52 UTC

I’m not mad LOL.

2020-10-15 06:32:55 UTC

My two cents: whether or not the Gospel of Thomas is cannon or not is a distraction from the truth. Even though the quote comes from Thomas, I believe that message is something Jesus made clear multiple times. He said the gateway to life is small, and few will find it. Ecclesiastes 7 has the passage about finding only one upright man out of 1000, but no upright woman. Even if the bible is corrupted and misinterpreted, even if Thomas is wrong, the Holy Spirit guides us from within. A lot of people are not going to follow Jesus, and there are a lot of people pretending to follow him. The danger is getting trapped in the intellectualism and the knowledge of God, rather than seeking God.

Just because Thomas quoted something doesn't mean he had a book named after him 🤔
