I find all this to be BS. The senate isn't just some compromise, it is what allowed the union to grow. Why would any small state want to join a union where there is a correlated disparity in ideologies that results in some massive ideological group far away to dictate local rules?

2020-11-22 17:06:07 UTC

Would you want china to become the 51st state?

2020-11-22 17:06:16 UTC

It's only democracy after all!

2020-11-22 17:06:35 UTC

Nevermind that their ideologies would vastly destroy you locally

2020-11-22 17:06:49 UTC

I fear DC becoming a state!

2020-11-22 17:07:32 UTC

Judicial activism is against the founders intent

2020-11-22 17:07:33 UTC

The move to make DC a state is a move by the democrat party to solidify such an advanced position ahead of republicans that it means there is basically a one-party system.

2020-11-22 17:07:37 UTC

It is not self consistent

2020-11-22 17:07:48 UTC

The democrats frequently try to do this with various things.

2020-11-22 17:07:53 UTC

Lowering the voting age, etc.

2020-11-22 17:07:58 UTC

Saying that the senate and EC explains judicial activism is 🤮

2020-11-22 17:08:24 UTC

Guess we are moving on again.

2020-11-22 17:08:26 UTC

The senate and EC are there for a good -and separate- reason

2020-11-22 17:08:38 UTC

Congress being at a standstill is also the founders intent

2020-11-22 17:08:38 UTC

@realz, you just advanced to level 9!

2020-11-22 17:08:44 UTC

That was the point

2020-11-22 17:08:48 UTC

EC?

2020-11-22 17:08:52 UTC

To get things done you have to convince people

2020-11-22 17:08:54 UTC

Electoral College.

2020-11-22 17:09:09 UTC

More than just 51%

2020-11-22 17:09:13 UTC

DUH??? Color my face red.

2020-11-22 17:09:19 UTC

More than 51% for a day

2020-11-22 17:09:48 UTC

Abolish the EC and congrats, you have a one party system.

2020-11-22 17:10:23 UTC

Congress being at a standstill does not justify introducing bad faith (and in effect dictatorial powers) to a 9umvirate

2020-11-22 17:10:54 UTC

@realz The Founders were also very weary of generational wealth and the potential for it leading to corruption. The issue with Congress is a complicated one. I understand the need to protect the interests of smaller states, but it is causing problems.

2020-11-22 17:11:10 UTC

Ok then break up the union

2020-11-22 17:11:21 UTC

There is no need for CA to experiment with the entire country

2020-11-22 17:11:28 UTC

Let CA experiment with CA

2020-11-22 17:11:36 UTC

It's already doing that.

2020-11-22 17:11:36 UTC

It is not causing problems

2020-11-22 17:11:54 UTC

The problem is that CA wants to implement the things it wants at the federal level

2020-11-22 17:11:59 UTC

Without even trying it locally

2020-11-22 17:12:03 UTC

CA is not the bastion of evil that it is portrayed to be...

2020-11-22 17:12:10 UTC

I'm not saying it is

2020-11-22 17:12:19 UTC

I mean, it's not doing too well if I recall.

2020-11-22 17:12:23 UTC

If CA wants universal healthcare, they are free to try it

2020-11-22 17:12:28 UTC

I endorse their attempt

2020-11-22 17:12:32 UTC

But they aren't even trying

2020-11-22 17:12:39 UTC

They are just going for the jugular

2020-11-22 17:12:53 UTC

Straight to the federal government, and to the SC if they could

2020-11-22 17:13:10 UTC

No, CA is doing it locally. But they can't force people to stay and accept it. If done federally then you can't escape.
