Ya you don’t want people trained ‘on the job’ in some of those industries. Especially extraction industries because a mistake can cost lives or ecological disasters.
You need some sort of background and understanding before you get there otherwise you’re a liability
@hbutzer0511 "hey due process... 🖕🏻 ~NY Governor" 😡
Muh classrom isnt going to replace on the job training
Companies have to train people anyway at some point.
Even if they send them to consolidated training
For example my cousin hires elitricians at $40/hr (canadian) and pays for their trade education
Out of highshool
wow nice
@Asatru Artist - MD If I were a I.E. member in New York..I would consider exploring a new homestead.
Well in Wyoming it is a trade education you’re getting. You don’t get any sort of degree just a certification, and it’s all a hands on learning approach
@hbutzer0511 that red flag law has already gotten one guy murdered by police here in MD
A lot of those programs are subsidized by the companies in the area
Trade education is definitly better than nothing
@Asatru Artist - MD What was the scenario?
I still think companies copping out of training and then importing high skill visas is bs
H1b visas need to stop
basically the guy got accused of being dangerous by a family member, police show up, things happen, dude ends up dead
no due process, no actual crime committed
It’s also a social problem. We’ve told all the kids in America you can go to college for four years, get a degree in basket weaving, and make 100k/yr
@Asatru Artist - MD "Potentially dangerous people." Pre-crime much?
@Drover Tom I knew my basket weaving degree wasn't going to make me 100k...
I feel good getting a worthless history degree on the governments dime.
@Bjorn - MD Yeah, who needs Chinese communism when you have liberals in charge here?
Higher education is such a racket outside of stem (and even then watch out)
@Asatru Artist - MD don't kid yourself. You're very entrepreneurial.
And skilled
There's no shortage of STEM, just a trick to make people go to school
Your CS degree is going to go toe to toe with indians with some online certs working for less
i wonder how far back social justice is going to take our STEM "students" and that whole area of study?
@Bjorn - MD" You look like you were about to steal that."- Police officer. @Asatru Artist - MD
...and the fact that they can report someone anonymously is even more ridiculous. What ever happened to confronting one's accuser?!
yet someone can knowingly waste thousands of hours of police resources on a hoax hate crime, and go unpunished simply because they are black and gay. <:really:453005408064241674>
"Officials said Willis answered the door while holding a handgun.
Willis then placed the gun next to the door.
When officers began to serve him the order, Willis became irate and grabbed his gun."
Not sure what exactly to make of that.
Seriously...
I took it as "we want your guns because some rando told us you are dangerous" then he grabbed the gun not wanting to give it up. Either way, he was murdered for a "crime" he never committed.
Getting a degree in STEM is roughly analogous to joining the Victorian era Indian Civil Service.
At best 50% of your STEM degree is useless because of general ed
