So from a giving the populus a shot perspective, Presidential republics give them a possible counterweight to the legislature

Parliamentary systems tend to be more responsive, and it's easier to create and successfully advance third (and fourth, and fifth) parties, but as a consequence, they're also less stable.
(Coalitions constantly coming together, then disintegrating with the next crisis and/or election).
