Ahhh.... I think they have just perverted the idea of Deification... Meaning that we were created in the Image and Likeness of God.... In the Fall we lost the ability to attain that likeness because of damage done to the Image of the Lord... in Christ is is restored which enables people to become God-like or more exactly Christ like.
That's foundational Orthodox Theology, and I think it is accepted by the Catholic Church as well

if you do not understand the Holy Scriptures as many SOLA SCRIPTURA people do not and do not have the framework of the teachings of the Fathers of the Church, it is easy to mis-interpret what one reads...
