@Catman Sorry guys, I can't Booger tonight, there's water.....

2020-05-07 02:46:29 UTC

HA

2020-05-07 02:46:43 UTC

I hiked like 3 days in wet boots and just hate water as a result

2020-05-07 02:47:07 UTC

why didnt you just dry your boots?

2020-05-07 02:48:18 UTC

Open cell foam does not dry fast.

2020-05-07 02:48:45 UTC

I will say this, deer hunting in steel toes while it’s 13° out is a terrible idea

2020-05-07 02:50:50 UTC

Chippewa's?

2020-05-07 03:02:56 UTC

Had some steel toes when I went to Vrindavan. Finally wore the leather off the toes and yanked it off exposing the steel. Got em wet that night stepping into a puddle so let them dry on the window sill. Went to pick them up in the morning and was like mmmmm toasty. Fuck socks cause only going out to see if the truck was still there, shit burned the skin off my toes when i slipped em in. Fuck India

Fun vacation though. Rama Rama ding dong. Fun fact: All Hare Krishnas are still closet drug addicts, and they know how to party.

2020-05-07 03:06:52 UTC

Never been to Asia but that does sound fun

2020-05-07 03:07:55 UTC

I’ve been around Europe and Mexico. That’s about it.

2020-05-07 03:10:49 UTC

5.11 boots use composite toe instead of steel.

2020-05-07 03:17:03 UTC

Never ran steel toes but I was moderately happy with composite toe. I'm also obsessive about my feet from running though.

2020-05-07 03:20:13 UTC

I regularly check my shoe soles to see if I am running properly

2020-05-07 03:26:34 UTC

Spare boots and spare socks are a real thing. So is crossing barefoot

2020-05-07 03:28:50 UTC

I've used camp shoes to cross before but have always worried about cutting my feel on rocks underwater and never crosses barefoot

2020-05-07 03:32:38 UTC

I made the mistake of wearing the wrong boots out to a three day event in the rain, crawling through streams and such. I think I changed my socks about 6 times a day and wore walmart sacks over them. I've been told if you're going to be in and out of shallow water a ton, LALO Amphibian boots and sealskinz socks are the way to go.

2020-05-07 03:34:27 UTC

I just didn't really have any other boots with ankle support and couldn't afford anything at the time. It was a ton of fun, but I had my feet completely caked in foot powder by the time I was done. Also, average temp was around 35-45 depending on the time of day.

2020-05-07 03:39:33 UTC

I do have a lower cut boot since 8 inch boots limit mobility too much in my opinion. Foot powder is a must if you are in shoes. In the heat it works so well when your feet sweat

2020-05-07 03:40:15 UTC

I use Merrel chameleon hiking shoes. Use inside out moisture-wicking socks for liners, and wool socks over if it's cold.

2020-05-07 03:40:43 UTC

wool socks were a lifesaver in the cold water

2020-05-07 03:40:55 UTC

Can dry quickly too.

2020-05-07 03:41:55 UTC

I'm never making that mistake again though. Next time I go out like that, I'm saving up and getting a good pair of boots made for the environment

2020-05-07 03:42:42 UTC

I love Sierra Trading Post. Last years gear is totally worth the money for 1/2 price boots

2020-05-07 03:42:52 UTC

I was stupid in the first place for doing it but I didn't have the money. T8 bifida does not mix with water

2020-05-07 03:45:20 UTC

Winter requires waterproof boots or gaiters.

2020-05-07 03:45:45 UTC

This was fall so it wasn't freezing outside at least

2020-05-07 03:46:30 UTC

There's a theory on boots made for water though. You can't keep water out of your boots, it's impossible because even if it's completely waterproof, you'll still sweat. You can make a boot that lets water out though

2020-05-07 03:47:56 UTC

With boots that don't breathe well leaving the boots slightly loose air flows when the boot moves with each step and can clear out some of that sweat

2020-05-07 03:48:30 UTC

but then water can get in, and stay in, when you go knee deep in a creek

2020-05-07 03:51:16 UTC

Yeah I basically fear water unless I'm planning to swim

2020-05-07 03:51:53 UTC

if you make it out of a material that can't become waterlogged, but create drainage holes, the water flows in when you go into water, and flows out when you leave, letting your feet stay dry when you're on land

The particular event I went to, (cringe if you want) was a three day airsoft game put on by a couple of rangers. Tons of fun, I got to play as a starving Venezuelan rebel with a G3. The setting was an alternate reality confederation of south american countries under a communist dictatorship with a small rebellion of citizens who were being covertly assisted by a ranger battalion and one ODA. The whole thing written and ran by a couple of actual rangers.
I figured the best approach for attack would be to come from the shittiest path possible, so I lead my ragtag fireteam crawling through hundreds of yards of thorns, creeks, swamps, and everything else unpleasant that Picher Oklahoma had to offer. It worked, we cleared house and rolled the enemy team while they were too busy complaining about people using white light instead of IR.
After getting waaaay off track there, desert boots in miles of swamp and thorns was not fun.

2020-05-07 03:58:39 UTC

but also fun in a way, larping as a starving peasant

Cop shoots little girl why trying to shoot a dog protecting her and gets ruled immune.

2020-05-07 03:59:20 UTC

The actual fuck.

2020-05-07 03:59:22 UTC

I was seeing if anyone had experience with quick dry boots over water proof. I am debating the transition but don't want to drop more money on boots

2020-05-07 03:59:25 UTC

I remember when that happened

2020-05-07 03:59:46 UTC

Yeah he just got immune from being sued or prosecuted.
