Sort of. Not really.

2017-12-04 21:37:02 UTC

Pay attention to the riff center. Ildjarn-Nidhogg contains some metal tracks but they're barely metal.

2017-12-04 21:37:45 UTC

Metal riffs pivot around a series of tonal center usually. Black Sabbath, Priest, Slayer especially.

2017-12-04 21:38:03 UTC

Then these lurch forward. A riff rock band just connects the riffs.

2017-12-04 21:38:35 UTC

Compare Ildjarn to the Ramones or early Led Zeppelin.

2017-12-04 21:38:44 UTC

Just in terms of structure

2017-12-04 21:39:10 UTC

Also the happy major scales are punk as fuck.

2017-12-04 21:40:23 UTC

It's melodically constructed but it's very hard to call it black metal. Lacks the fluid chords of Bathory and Sarcofago.

2017-12-04 21:40:46 UTC

Ildjarn-Nidhogg is on the edge of crossover and metal as ambient music.

2017-12-04 21:41:09 UTC

Some of the other material on forest poetry? Not at all.

2017-12-04 21:43:18 UTC

the spirit is what matters

2017-12-04 22:02:01 UTC

buttcoin @ 12k

2017-12-04 22:11:56 UTC

The spirit matters the most

2017-12-04 22:12:01 UTC

structurally it just has to be close enough to qualify as metal

2017-12-04 22:12:30 UTC

If it is primarily melodic as opposed to rhythmic or harmonic, then it is metal if it has the spirit

2017-12-04 22:12:34 UTC

And it needs to have electric guitar timbre

2017-12-04 22:12:35 UTC

that's it

2017-12-04 22:19:13 UTC

can't say I enjoy the drums on that nidhogg album

2017-12-04 22:23:10 UTC

Damn didn't expect to find music discussion here

2017-12-04 22:25:07 UTC

2017-12-04 22:25:11 UTC

2017-12-04 22:31:44 UTC

Structurally? Forest poetry cycles between two four or five note riffs. One typically a variation on the other.

2017-12-04 22:33:02 UTC

Von is more metal somehow

2017-12-04 22:33:46 UTC

Probably major/minor scale difference but I don't remember shit about that side of things

2017-12-04 22:37:56 UTC

von is more riff-based

2017-12-04 22:38:12 UTC

ildjarn barely has riffs

2017-12-04 22:41:54 UTC

Ildjarn is snapshot music

2017-12-04 22:42:08 UTC

Music usually is motion picture.

2017-12-04 22:43:42 UTC

2017-12-04 22:45:29 UTC

@diversity_is_racism ildjarn is manifesto music

2017-12-04 22:45:40 UTC

each recording is a manifesto about his personal life nad his then feeling about nature and mankind

2017-12-04 22:46:10 UTC

ildjarn is dead expresses his failures to compete musically, the lack of appreciation, how it is released on a fucking poseur label, and he lack of romantic success, and failures with women
