Whatever we do needs to be sustainable for a very long time. We can't live in isolation for that long. Or if we did, we'd be unrecognizable by the end and much less than we are now.

Actually, aerosol has absolutely not been proven.

What has been proven is that this virus does not denature on surfaces as fast as previous coronaviruses.

Generally, predecessors to this bug dies after a few hours on a surface. SARS-2 lasts perhaps 24 hours on cardboard. I was reading a paper that it lasts at least 9 hours on steel. Maybe much longer on plastic.

With such long dwell time on fomites (objects harboring the virus), you can explain spread aboard the ship without necessarily needing to suppose aerosol transmission.

It is downright scary how durable this virus is. It's still being tested but this dwell data suggests this thing will not "just vanish" during the summer as our dear leader likes to claim on TV.

Saying this is pointless, most studies on this novel virus have likely not been peer reviewed yet since this takes a long time to do. According to this logic, any information we have is subject to change (which is true). So why not take into account the possibility of aerosol transmission, given the evidence we already have for this? Why put yourself and everyone in your vicinity at risk of infection when travelling if you don't even have methods of transmission solidified yet, *while* knowing for certain that cases can be contagious while asymptomatic and knowing the possibility for a higher death rate (and taking into account the serious symptom rate as well). That's very irresponsible.

Yes but this can happen either way. While virons in the air probably won't live nearly as long as on a surface they can just spread out farther.

Even though it either came into from their poor hygiene by having things like uncooked meat next to cooked meat i.e. Gordon Ramsey's nightmare, or them spreading a virus they were working with in a lab because they used poor protocols.

Ironically though, the countries that trusted China the most have been hit worst by the virus.

Italy signed up to the Belt and Road, and Iran and South Korea also refused to close borders and start screening travellers.

So the govts are getting their reward for sucking up to China and ignoring all the warning signs for profit.

The EU is bitching about the US being racist or whatever, but what Trump said wasn't wrong - they screwed up their response to the virus.

They never trusted China, so never let down their guard.

China's only trying to retain control over their own populace with the US/Japan/Italy coronavirus conspiracies. If many of knew how badly the government handled this, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some uprisings.

And the EU can fucking suck it, why the hell would the US *not* restrict travel to one of the new major covid-19 hotspots.
