But I dont think the pump is gonna move far back enough to "feed" the shells into the barrel

2018-10-29 02:10:44 UTC

i don't understand why no one has developed a rimless shotgun shell

2018-10-29 02:11:29 UTC

it'd solve all the problems with feeding from magazines.

2018-10-29 02:12:48 UTC

I'm guessing the issue is getting enough charge out of the primer to set it all off properly. I'm not aware of any rim fire cartridges with charges approaching a shotgun shell.

2018-10-29 02:13:16 UTC

i don't mean rimfire, i mean a rimmed case

2018-10-29 02:14:36 UTC

Interesting.

i'm certain that with modern materials a rimless shell could be constructed. you'd give up the ability to have different lengths, but that wouldn't be particularly important in a self-loader meant for rapid fire close range fire.

2018-10-29 03:03:27 UTC

@Atkins you could just make a sleeve which evens the rim out

2018-10-29 03:03:58 UTC

sleeve wouldn't even need to be the full length of the shell

2018-10-29 03:04:28 UTC

maybe make it 1/3" wide, and place it 2/3" from the base

2018-10-29 03:05:00 UTC

i don't think that would be adequate to prevent rimlock

2018-10-29 03:05:12 UTC

why not?

2018-10-29 03:06:01 UTC

I guess you could make the sleeve full length then, with a taper down to the rim.

2018-10-29 03:06:20 UTC

ideally you'd have something as close to a perfect cylinder as possible to prevent any tipping or rocking

2018-10-29 03:06:22 UTC

(which is what prevents rimlock on fully "rimless" cartridges)

2018-10-29 03:06:28 UTC

which, incidentally, have rims, lol. (whether you call it a "groove" or a "rim", it's the same geometry)

2018-10-29 03:19:17 UTC

@Atkins you want to go into business selling pieces of slightly tapered plastic tube which convert standard shotgun shells to "rimless" (a.k.a. groovy) shells?

2018-10-29 03:19:31 UTC

we can file the patent on Monday

2018-10-29 03:22:41 UTC

Standard license fee for the advanced alien technology: 0.02USD (or about 3-6% of the cost of a standard 12ga shotgun shell)

*i prefer my slingshot from walmart*

2018-10-29 08:33:20 UTC

woo

2018-10-29 08:33:25 UTC

I got a shield 9x19

Best groups were around 1" at 7

2018-10-29 08:33:47 UTC

but it took a SHITLOAD of practice because I have giant hands

2018-10-29 08:35:05 UTC

I'm on the fence about getting a new trigger for it

2018-10-29 08:35:21 UTC

so I've asked my friend who already has one with the nice apex trigger to bring his hardware

Pump action shotguns are not hard to convert to mag feed from tube feed in a technical sense

2018-10-29 19:46:21 UTC

The harder part is to make that a reliable feed and not let the mag spring squish the soft shotgun shells while being strong enough to push them up quickly

2018-10-29 19:48:20 UTC

I have also seen the mix-feed shotguns which can do tube feed and mag feed at the exhibition (for that sports shooting categories weirdness)

Watch the first couple of minutes of "Miami Guns", that tells it all 😉

@RyeNorth Give me a recommendation for a .45 acp that is not a 1911

2018-10-29 22:45:37 UTC

I'm curious what you think since you're relatively new

2018-10-29 22:46:12 UTC

I can't even SPELL acp.
