Then again how do you know the US gave the tech willingly? I was sure that most nations had their own missile programs at the time. Germany was also pretty far ahead in that regard, and their scientists were dispersed like candy in a party during WW2
And when the nukes were dropped on Japan, it only became a matter of time before other nations would start sending their spies to steal the tech.
I seriously doubt the US will be silly enough to sell their main point of power they had over others, especially during the cold war.
