Aka the onion these days

2018-05-07 22:55:39 UTC

lol

2018-05-07 22:55:47 UTC

That's true.

2018-05-07 22:55:55 UTC

I generally see a facebook post from The Onion

2018-05-07 22:55:59 UTC

question if that was a real thing

2018-05-07 22:56:00 UTC

Through no fault of their own

2018-05-07 22:56:07 UTC

thats why i wanna know if theres more to his white-nationalism,

cuz "lol pro-hitler"
and "gtfo nub" isnt productive and might be the joke

2018-05-07 22:56:08 UTC

then see 'The Onion' byline, and that's the only way I know

2018-05-07 22:57:13 UTC

Poor onion. They have become a real news site

2018-05-07 22:57:16 UTC

I will credit Aryan with this: He's really refined my stance on Free Speech.

2018-05-07 22:57:43 UTC

Oh?

2018-05-07 22:58:48 UTC

Simply by having to deal with him, I've learned full and well to tolerate and combat ideas and speech I disagree with with more speech as opposed to trying to get him banned or blocking him, etc.

2018-05-07 22:58:56 UTC

😛

2018-05-07 22:59:35 UTC

The fact that I haven't taken the easy way and just blocked him, that's where I'm getting swole.

2018-05-07 22:59:57 UTC

im indifferent, to me free-speech for such conversations lead to one of two things:
If it IS just a joke all along, good on him
If he's real, its just more rope for the noose around the argument

2018-05-07 23:00:03 UTC

We've had some fun arguments with him in the past.

2018-05-07 23:00:16 UTC

"We tried." - Subverse, probably.

2018-05-07 23:00:44 UTC

Granted, I would be very satisfied if he left of his own accord... 😛

2018-05-07 23:01:26 UTC

Debates and spirited conversations about Net Neutrality are far more interesting.

2018-05-07 23:03:02 UTC

Community run internet nodes. The solution to net neutrality

2018-05-07 23:03:25 UTC

What's the closest parallel we have to that. Ham radio? Tor network?

2018-05-07 23:04:43 UTC

It's already in digital form.

2018-05-07 23:04:51 UTC

We've got Torrenting

2018-05-07 23:04:53 UTC

and Blockchain

2018-05-07 23:05:50 UTC

Only thing that's missing is the actual infrastructure then. Unless you suggest we just buy it off ISPs.

2018-05-07 23:06:13 UTC

Oh, unless he's talking about infrastrucutre.

2018-05-07 23:06:18 UTC

I guess I missed that.

2018-05-07 23:06:29 UTC

Yes

2018-05-07 23:07:27 UTC

Each town or city having their own internet node, hooked into an internet backbone

2018-05-07 23:08:24 UTC

That puts government in the mix

2018-05-07 23:08:32 UTC

and takes out open market.

2018-05-07 23:08:43 UTC

I don't think you could fully decentralise to that degree without something going wrong.

2018-05-07 23:08:45 UTC

Backbone access costs I think 1500 a month or so. A node I think costs between 5000 and 10000 in equipment. Plus what it costs to install the lines to the backbone or buy off the isp

2018-05-07 23:08:46 UTC

You ever try tor?

2018-05-07 23:08:51 UTC

It's a horrible user experience.

2018-05-07 23:09:06 UTC

Tor is not the same as a node.

2018-05-07 23:09:35 UTC

I'm referring to rye's comment about avoiding any sort of community-owned thing.

2018-05-07 23:09:41 UTC

Owned? Run? Something like that.

2018-05-07 23:10:19 UTC

@RyeNorth technically it's only the city government IF the community goes through the local government. Rather than someone setting it up on their own and offering local service. for a fee.

2018-05-07 23:11:33 UTC

Right now the problem IS the government.

2018-05-07 23:12:08 UTC

In a lot of places they make it all but impossible to create and isp start up.
