Its a misdemenor now
So its still a crime, just not so serious
I liked Tim's point the other day, highlighting the conflicting narratives that we should abolish borders, but also Israel is occupying Palestine
i'm sorry but knowingly endangering someones life is felony assault and battery
It's basically equal to acid attacks.
I'd rather die in the street after 10 minutes of suffering than live as an acid attack victim.
well, i guess depends on the STD. Something easily treated with antibiotics and goes away probably shouldn't be a felony.
but the ones that require treatment for life?
how is that not a felony?
How is the cost of that treatment not 100% attributed to the person that caused it?
On the other hand
it can always be turned around
It’s not a felony any more.
thats still not a felony, its just they have to pay for treatment
but if i hit someone so hard with no reason that it caused them to have to permanently change their life style for medical reasons, yeah, i'm going to jail.
I wouldn't make a distiction between the different STDs. You don't know what effect it's going to have in the specific person.
I’m just waiting for super AIDS to evolve out of California.
A strand of AIDS that doesn't respond to treatment.
*shudder*
@angeryer if i punch someone, the difference between a simple battery charge and felony battery charge could depend on where they hit their head
that's cut and dry, though.
You took a swing at someone
they got hit
assault
battery
jail
bye
The difference is, and I don't mean to defend it, I mean to prevent this from backfiring
The AIDS scenario stems from a consentual arrangement
yes, but there is multiple levels of assault and battery
simple battery is a misdemeanor in places
Aggravated is the felony
If I tell you to hit me, and you hit me harder than I expect you to
The question is, what's the actual crime comitted?
It's not assault.
so like i said, know you have an STD, if the result is antibiotics and its gone, civil suit or misdemeanor, you cover medical expense, bang done. Change my life permanently forever? Jail time, good bye.
I'd say it would be something more akin to Fraud.
either way, it shouldn't simply be a misdemeanor
if you spread AIDs or HIV knowingly, you should be in jail
period
