well, i guess depends on the STD. Something easily treated with antibiotics and goes away probably shouldn't be a felony.

2018-07-18 17:46:01 UTC

but the ones that require treatment for life?

2018-07-18 17:46:08 UTC

how is that not a felony?

2018-07-18 17:46:32 UTC

How is the cost of that treatment not 100% attributed to the person that caused it?

2018-07-18 17:46:43 UTC

On the other hand

2018-07-18 17:46:52 UTC

it can always be turned around

2018-07-18 17:46:59 UTC

It’s not a felony any more.

2018-07-18 17:47:01 UTC

thats still not a felony, its just they have to pay for treatment

2018-07-18 17:47:09 UTC

but if i hit someone so hard with no reason that it caused them to have to permanently change their life style for medical reasons, yeah, i'm going to jail.

2018-07-18 17:47:29 UTC

I wouldn't make a distiction between the different STDs. You don't know what effect it's going to have in the specific person.

2018-07-18 17:47:42 UTC

I’m just waiting for super AIDS to evolve out of California.

2018-07-18 17:48:12 UTC

A strand of AIDS that doesn't respond to treatment.

2018-07-18 17:48:16 UTC

*shudder*

2018-07-18 17:48:18 UTC

@angeryer if i punch someone, the difference between a simple battery charge and felony battery charge could depend on where they hit their head

2018-07-18 17:48:44 UTC

so i would make a distinction on the results

2018-07-18 17:48:49 UTC

that's cut and dry, though.

2018-07-18 17:48:53 UTC

You took a swing at someone

2018-07-18 17:48:57 UTC

they got hit

2018-07-18 17:48:58 UTC

assault

2018-07-18 17:48:59 UTC

battery

2018-07-18 17:49:02 UTC

jail

2018-07-18 17:49:03 UTC

bye

2018-07-18 17:49:34 UTC

The difference is, and I don't mean to defend it, I mean to prevent this from backfiring

2018-07-18 17:50:02 UTC

The AIDS scenario stems from a consentual arrangement

2018-07-18 17:50:05 UTC

yes, but there is multiple levels of assault and battery

2018-07-18 17:50:21 UTC

simple battery is a misdemeanor in places

2018-07-18 17:50:40 UTC

Aggravated is the felony

2018-07-18 17:51:11 UTC

If I tell you to hit me, and you hit me harder than I expect you to

2018-07-18 17:51:52 UTC

The question is, what's the actual crime comitted?

2018-07-18 17:51:59 UTC

It's not assault.

2018-07-18 17:52:02 UTC

so like i said, know you have an STD, if the result is antibiotics and its gone, civil suit or misdemeanor, you cover medical expense, bang done. Change my life permanently forever? Jail time, good bye.

2018-07-18 17:52:14 UTC

I'd say it would be something more akin to Fraud.

2018-07-18 17:52:32 UTC

either way, it shouldn't simply be a misdemeanor

2018-07-18 17:52:46 UTC

if you spread AIDs or HIV knowingly, you should be in jail

2018-07-18 17:52:48 UTC

period

2018-07-18 17:54:03 UTC

Crowder also makes a valid point, if you're not having gay sex with random strangers or sharing needles, your chances of contracting aids go down lower than being killed by a coconut under an oak tree.

2018-07-18 17:54:38 UTC

In the long run, this policy actually PUNISHES gay people and drug users.

2018-07-18 17:54:47 UTC

It's pretty damned ironic.

2018-07-18 17:55:41 UTC

they should be glad they're receiving the gift tbh!

2018-07-18 17:56:07 UTC

hmmm.... i wonder if the STD rise is more caused by rising drug us than hook up culture. depends on which stds

2018-07-18 17:59:20 UTC

Just imagine if they made a black person murdering a black person only a misdemeanor to reduce the crime rate
