He's on the youtubes again?

2018-08-17 20:29:15 UTC

wow that was a pretty awful argument.

2018-08-17 20:30:03 UTC

read: my players are very lucky at rolling and i'm pissed at it

2018-08-17 20:30:05 UTC

The Harmful Opinions one.

2018-08-17 20:30:39 UTC

Meh, I could see a DM doing that.

2018-08-17 20:31:56 UTC

Some people think good persuasion is mind control.

2018-08-17 20:32:06 UTC

They're wrong.

2018-08-17 20:32:11 UTC

Indeed.

2018-08-17 20:32:36 UTC

Isn't there a spell that makes them stupid?

2018-08-17 20:32:54 UTC

Combine that with high persuasion and you can make people in zombies.

2018-08-17 20:33:02 UTC

But that's not really the same thing.

2018-08-17 20:33:59 UTC

true.

2018-08-17 20:34:14 UTC

still, entertaining Vee annoyed him enough to have him make this video

2018-08-17 20:34:55 UTC

but the solution is simple "well done, you have persuaded him to do something. now pick what that is because your thing so far is out side the realm of sense"

2018-08-17 20:38:05 UTC

I kind of agree with Sargon on the point of some requests are more difficult than others, and if it's not possible to persuade them they should just be told you can't make a check for that.

2018-08-17 20:38:28 UTC

Like if you asked me to sell you my nephew there's nothing you could say to make me do that.

2018-08-17 20:38:41 UTC

It doesn't matter how persuasive you are.

2018-08-17 20:38:52 UTC

no one can scare you into doing it?

2018-08-17 20:38:54 UTC

I think it's fine to do. A good roll gets your point across better, so they understand your position better.

2018-08-17 20:39:09 UTC

No one can scare me more than his father, no.

2018-08-17 20:39:25 UTC

And in some cases you may not be able to convince a person, but maybe over a month or two of trying to convince them it may sway them

2018-08-17 20:39:56 UTC

still, i can see that point. you can still let them try then go "okay, you got a 20. he's not doing that. pick something else, or you move on"

2018-08-17 20:40:18 UTC

eventually they get the point.

2018-08-17 20:40:28 UTC

No I think just "You can't do that" before the roll is better.

2018-08-17 20:40:31 UTC

Pick somethign else.

2018-08-17 20:40:56 UTC

Na i agree with sargon there.

2018-08-17 20:41:00 UTC

Like if I told you to sell your nephew you'd just be like "No. what is wrong with you", but if I got a great roll to convince you a demon will destroy the village you may be like "No. I understand your concerns now and think you're crazy".

2018-08-17 20:41:15 UTC

@Dennafen but its so much more fun to let them roll then go "good job. did nothing."

2018-08-17 20:41:18 UTC

Allways annoys me when players say "let me roll X" - not just for persuasion

2018-08-17 20:41:38 UTC

nothing wrong with ticking them off for being stupid

2018-08-17 20:41:42 UTC

Don't tell them what they may or may not do. Just don't give them their way if it makes no sense.

2018-08-17 20:41:48 UTC

next best step is let them kill themselves

2018-08-17 20:42:03 UTC

@Schedrevka but rolling is not something they do is my point

2018-08-17 20:42:22 UTC

They do something and may have to roll for that

2018-08-17 20:42:23 UTC

"good job, you scared him enough to make him believe you are a threat.... roll initiative"

2018-08-17 20:42:29 UTC

I think this is a case where you can't just say "I want to roll to persuade him to do this" but actually need to tell him WHY you think they should do this, and the roll can determine how well you got your point across
