@Timcast Patreos, which is a token which will run on EOS (so crypto, yes) is a couple of months away from release. Until then, we need to seriously promote all cryptos. Once the state blockchains are built, and they will be, the Chinese social credit rating will look like nothing.

2018-12-07 14:35:48 UTC [Subverse #general]

Sargon isn't interested in creating an alternative.

2018-12-07 14:35:54 UTC [Subverse #general]

He's not a dev.

2018-12-07 14:36:05 UTC [Subverse #general]

He could promote alternatives, as Tim used to do.

2018-12-07 14:36:15 UTC [Subverse #general]

But now is the time to push crypto. It's cheap.

2018-12-07 14:36:28 UTC [Subverse #general]

ALthough it will be cheaper in the next couple of months.

2018-12-07 14:37:06 UTC [Subverse #general]

According to Patreos: "It will be a platform for creators to be funded by fans and pledges. Similar concept, but of course token driven, and resistant to digital censorship and deplatforming--we can't boot you off of Patreos. :)"

2018-12-07 14:38:15 UTC [Subverse #general]

Dudes. You need to start supporting crypto. As a political donation, if nothing else.

2018-12-07 14:38:43 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well Patreos is building that right now. They had some legal issues with the SEC which slowed them down.

2018-12-07 14:40:13 UTC [Subverse #general]

Aside from that, most crypto addresses are free. Most are free to receive (sender pays fee). Some are free for both (you pay by doing a little bit of processing on your PC for 30s). IOTA, Nano and EOS fit the last category I think.

2018-12-07 14:40:21 UTC [Subverse #general]

Seriously dudes, now's the time.

2018-12-07 14:41:12 UTC [Subverse #general]

Sargon was taken out for no reason other than that he was effectively undermining the mainstream narrative, and because he *isn't* an extremist that they can use as a pantomime bad guy.

2018-12-07 14:41:33 UTC [Subverse #general]

That's what people have to realise.

2018-12-07 14:42:00 UTC [Subverse #general]

And Tim Pool is probably only a little further down that path, even if he avoids using certain words.

2018-12-07 14:42:51 UTC [Subverse #general]

Because he is *not* a lunatic who is easily discredited and can be pointed to to frighten people away from speaking out against the establishment.

2018-12-07 14:43:41 UTC [Subverse #general]

They are decentralised.

2018-12-07 14:44:31 UTC [Subverse #general]

So EOS, which is trying to build a decentralised internet, is essentially a network of 21 computers that token holders vote for.

2018-12-07 14:44:49 UTC [Subverse #general]

They are spread around the world (although there is too much power in China right now).

2018-12-07 14:45:14 UTC [Subverse #general]

And they will almost certainly release a social media platform which is built on the blockchain from the ground up in the next 6 months.

2018-12-07 14:46:09 UTC [Subverse #general]

It will not be possible to censor them, since they are geographically distributed, and if one network producer cooperates with an authoritarian state they can be voted out.

2018-12-07 14:46:20 UTC [Subverse #general]

It's designed by the guy who designed steemit.

2018-12-07 14:46:25 UTC [Subverse #general]

Which runs dtube.

2018-12-07 14:46:31 UTC [Subverse #general]

on IPFS.

2018-12-07 14:46:42 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well, not necessarily.

2018-12-07 14:47:04 UTC [Subverse #general]

I mean,p there are cryptos which can be used even when states try to censor them.

2018-12-07 14:47:33 UTC [Subverse #general]

But *some* decentralisation is better than the monopolies we currently have, no?

2018-12-07 14:47:55 UTC [Subverse #general]

I mean, imagine we had a decentralised social media platform that could not be taken down by banks at this point.

2018-12-07 14:48:04 UTC [Subverse #general]

I have.

2018-12-07 14:48:35 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well yes. They could turn it all off.

2018-12-07 14:48:42 UTC [Subverse #general]

But you're being fundamentalist.

2018-12-07 14:48:55 UTC [Subverse #general]

Which is one of the problems in crypto, actually.

2018-12-07 14:49:00 UTC [Subverse #general]

And everywhere else.

2018-12-07 14:49:26 UTC [Subverse #general]

People are fundamentalist about things, so shit on things that are *better* and *functional*.

2018-12-07 14:49:35 UTC [Subverse #general]

Because they're not *perfect*

2018-12-07 14:49:49 UTC [Subverse #general]

That's the SJWs to a T.

2018-12-07 14:50:15 UTC [Subverse #general]

In many cases, it can't be blocked.

2018-12-07 14:50:36 UTC [Subverse #general]

And to block them, you would have to cooperate across dozens of jurisdictions.

2018-12-07 14:50:43 UTC [Subverse #general]

Or geoblock parts of the world.

2018-12-07 14:51:03 UTC [Subverse #general]

They aren't doing that, yet.

2018-12-07 14:51:17 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well, they're not geoblocking countries.

2018-12-07 14:51:33 UTC [Subverse #general]

They haven't managed to shutdown torrents, despite more than a decade of trying.

2018-12-07 14:51:42 UTC [Subverse #general]

ANd IPFS is just torrents.

2018-12-07 14:53:36 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well I would prefer supporting alternatives *now* than rejecting them in the hope that the situation deteriorates to the point we have to resort to pitchforks (literally).

2018-12-07 14:54:14 UTC [Subverse #general]

I agree that a blockchain is an audit trail.

2018-12-07 14:54:29 UTC [Subverse #general]

That's why we need to support decentralised blockchains.

2018-12-07 14:54:43 UTC [Subverse #general]

Because teh state will get its grubby paws on blockchain.

2018-12-07 14:54:52 UTC [Subverse #general]

Why do you think they are allowing it to survive for now.

2018-12-07 14:55:42 UTC [Subverse #general]

No. They are allowing the open source community to innovate, and they will plagiarise those innovations and make all of this censorship look like absolutely nothing.

2018-12-07 14:56:03 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well it's coming, like it or not.

2018-12-07 14:56:19 UTC [Subverse #general]

They see it as the ultimate tool.

2018-12-07 14:56:27 UTC [Subverse #general]

Which is what it is.

2018-12-07 14:56:38 UTC [Subverse #general]

The state.

2018-12-07 14:57:03 UTC [Subverse #general]

The state will adopt the blockchain and censor/monitor every single transaction you make.

2018-12-07 14:57:11 UTC [Subverse #general]

And then it's all over.

2018-12-07 14:57:21 UTC [Subverse #general]

Visa is not the state.

2018-12-07 14:57:53 UTC [Subverse #general]

I'm a guy who doesn't care if you buy what I've got or not. I'm prepared to lsoe money.

2018-12-07 14:58:26 UTC [Subverse #general]

That's the point.

2018-12-07 14:58:38 UTC [Subverse #general]

I don't carte if you buy *what I've got*.

2018-12-07 14:58:50 UTC [Subverse #general]

But we need to support decentralisation.

2018-12-07 14:58:55 UTC [Subverse #general]

The principle.

2018-12-07 14:59:12 UTC [Subverse #general]

Which is why I was careful to mention, of 3 cryptos, two I don't own.

2018-12-07 14:59:33 UTC [Subverse #general]

Well you seem like an accelerationist, so...

2018-12-07 14:59:56 UTC [Subverse #general]

And I doubt you actually understand blockchain technology.

2018-12-07 15:00:08 UTC [Subverse #general]

But you are entitled to your opinion.

2018-12-07 15:00:13 UTC [Subverse #general]

I gave mine.

2018-12-07 15:00:17 UTC [Subverse #general]

I despise bitcoin.

2018-12-07 15:00:42 UTC [Subverse #general]

You don't appear to, whatever you do.

2018-12-07 15:00:58 UTC [Subverse #general]

But hey, get your pitchfork ready.

2018-12-07 15:01:24 UTC [Subverse #general]

That's preferable to other ways of improving censorship *resistance*.

2018-12-07 15:01:59 UTC [Subverse #general]

And you've called me a shill, without understanding what you're talking about.

2018-12-07 15:02:16 UTC [Subverse #general]

@paradigm Precisely.

2018-12-07 15:02:22 UTC [Subverse #general]

It is already underway.

2018-12-07 15:02:48 UTC [Subverse #general]

And if it is in the wrong hands (i.e. not everyone's, i.e. not decventralised) we're fucked. Permanently.

2018-12-07 15:03:08 UTC [Subverse #general]

You clearly don't.

2018-12-07 15:03:11 UTC [Subverse #general]

Sorry.,

2018-12-07 15:03:29 UTC [Subverse #general]

Yes it is.

2018-12-07 15:04:02 UTC [Subverse #general]

It is an argument that you didn't, and evidently still don't, understand the solutions being proposed to the problem of censorship./

2018-12-07 15:04:24 UTC [Subverse #general]

Ok.

2018-12-07 15:04:36 UTC [Subverse #general]

So what do you all propose?

2018-12-07 15:05:16 UTC [Subverse #general]

How to we ensure that people like Tim Pool, one of the few remaining honest journalists, is not financially censored by the current monopolies?

2018-12-07 15:05:50 UTC [Subverse #general]

My argument isn't that you're dumb. Although you may be. It's that you don'

2018-12-07 15:05:59 UTC [Subverse #general]

t (want to) understand.

2018-12-07 15:06:27 UTC [Subverse #general]

Where is your substance, apart from "something I evidently don't understand won't work because I say so".

2018-12-07 15:07:03 UTC [Subverse #general]

I esxplained it to you, with as much effort as I'm prepared to invest. You're evidently not interested in attempting to udnerstand.,

2018-12-07 15:07:52 UTC [Subverse #general]

There are plenty still around.

2018-12-07 15:08:06 UTC [Subverse #general]

I may or may not use bittorrent all the time.

2018-12-07 15:08:30 UTC [Subverse #general]

There's that risk, for sure.

2018-12-07 15:09:07 UTC [Subverse #general]

Sure.

2018-12-07 15:14:03 UTC [Subverse #general]

What about this is different from, say dtube?

2018-12-07 15:14:18 UTC [Subverse #general]

And how will the *payments* work?

2018-12-07 15:14:31 UTC [Subverse #general]

I mean, that's the snake oil you're referring to, I guess.

2018-12-07 15:14:40 UTC [Subverse #general]

But sargon wasn't kicked off youtube.

2018-12-07 15:14:48 UTC [Subverse #general]

He was censored financially.

2018-12-07 15:15:01 UTC [Subverse #general]

Same with bitchute and all the others.

2018-12-07 15:15:33 UTC [Subverse #general]

They want to remove your ability to make a living speaking out against the establishment. Unless you're a genuine extremist, of course.

2018-12-07 15:15:52 UTC [Subverse #general]

So you have no model for payments?

2018-12-07 15:15:59 UTC [Subverse #general]

So what do you do about stripe?

2018-12-07 15:16:05 UTC [Subverse #general]

And the banks.
