hey, it's a really cool idea with the mgtow archive stuff
i've allready backuped the torrent files
I see this really as a piece of history

but one question, how do you plan to archive "the next batch" for the active accounts ?
just creating per year torrents , with all that was released in 2019 ?

I haven't used torrents for a while, but as far as I know, a torrent has it's hash and it has fixed files inside it.

so if you want to add something, you'll have to create new torrents, and that's where the "fun" begins

i just started recently again, after I got my vpn

I don't have that much time, and not the inet connection, but I'd be happy to discuss technical stuff with you, if needed

especially this "updating" stuff is important,
otherwise we'd probably create a mess of unfinished torrents, that would be sad

yeah, I've it for 8 months or so,
after i found the p2p server option, i'm using it almost all the time again

but what's annoying is, that many sites start blocking or in wahman terms "harassing" you :P
all these stupid captchas, etc

google captchas still appear quite often ...

and what shenanigans the other users do ...

I could think of some different options now
so depending, on how your file structure was in the first release

you could just leave the old files all there, and add a 2019 folder
or 2019_1 folder to it, for a yearly or half yearly update
and then rerelease the torrent file,
that way the new torrent file will have the old contents as well,

but we have to tell the people how to use this properly, as they will have to select exactly their old folder, so the torrent programm will find the old files

anyway, in case someone is interested, search for "add file to existing torrent"
what I was writing, i remembered corretly, adding is not possible
one has to recreate the torrent

it's a bit problematic b/c the tool isn't that actively developed anymore, and it has quite it's problems with dynamically generated websites / content

I looked into backing up wallstreetplayboys,
nmm and returnofkings
but returnofkings was too big, so you can't stop that tool completely, otherwise it will redownload everything, b/c the server always returns a new date on the files

and you have to itererate, just start with default settings,
then probably filter out all the reply button links, etc

looks a bit like a mix of doom and FEAR

it will probably generate several GBs

mainly due to lots of small html files for each thread

and that's the annoying part, you'll then have to 7zip it or so, otherwise it will be too much for the torrent program

the other thing maybe you ask them kindly if they want to participate in the mgtow archive , but I guess if they export their database, everyone could recreate the site,
and as a site owner, I'd be quite sceptic about that, especially if they want the traffic for themselves

just copying the post database would be ofc the easiest way, and the most storage efficient,
but one needs to recreate the infrastructure around that, so it will be viewable again

I also did download years ago the backup of roissy sphere, back when going through PUA content ...
and someone did backup it in a very weird way
lots of single pdf files,
and it's the one of the worst ways to backup a site imho, ok you've got the content,
but you almost cant search in it, and most of the hyperlinks between articles are broken

seems they used web.archive.org and their html to pdf api
maybe web.archive.org has also archived mgtow.com, and does share their version in some format

and they said you have to download in one go, the only thing you can do is pressing the pause button, (and they maybe put to computer to sleep)
but never completely shut down the httrack program and then resume the project

has anyone of you tried the mgtow archive torrents ?
if yes, do they work for you ?
i tried with and without vpn, and there are only fery few peers (3 for speznas - but all 0% ), nothing else

my first thought was, that the trackers are missing, but my client found these peers via dht, so i guess having no trackers is not optimal, but not the main problem

mgtow 101 as 50% pua, at least that was my impression
