anyone got some general tips for doing well in an interview?
i'm being interviewd by 2 ppl at the same time
need some advice guys: if i don't need money but can't get a job in the field, coding, i'm passionate about - do i work at a job i hate and teach myself code after hours or do i teach myself, full-time, code until i get a coding job?
ty man, i'll carr yon then
idk why i doubted myself
parents always wanting me to getting a shitty administration role
@ZODD yeah - i've stopped associating myself with ppl that try and force ther beliefs onto me that inhibt my personal prgoress
@MufflePuff yeah - fortunaately i've already had xp working at a coyuple big firms, i'm just making a career change from my blue pill days when all i thought about was girls and 0 about my career and trade i want to develop across my lifeitme
yeah - my parents r constantly pressuring me into going for interviews at roles i fucking hate
i need to move out, so i kinda need money, but i dont want to have to move out by working a job i hate
loool htat's exactly what i've been doing
"i'll hear back from the recruiter next week if i'm successful"
create a routine and stick to it
for whatever reason
planning somthing
and sticking to it
removes any unnecessary thinking for me
apart from thinking about what i timeblocked in
F
has anyone here been to a hackathon before?
have any of you guys found the thing in life you want to develop as your trade
a vocation
and eventually master
and if so, how old were you
what did you find your life's calling was?
how long have you been developing your trade? and did you study chemistry at uni?
what is industrial design btw?
cool
have you learned python?
or do you not need to learn code for this?
yeah - i'm teaching myself code in my free time
what do you mean by visual programming? is that stuff like making the front-end of websites where you get instant feedback?
yeah - while you were studying computer science how did you find learning alogirthms and data structures - did you not enjoy it?
was it the workload or the actual topic that caused you to burn out?
wouldnt learning data structures and algorithms compliment learning visual programming?
what kind of habits are you referencing and do you recommend undertaking multiple courses on udemy or coursera - idk whether to learn by just trial and error on my own projects or following alongon a course
oh okay- i've been coding daily for the past 2 months and before that had an internship as a data analyst where i used vba msot of the time for creating analytical reports - what made me get into coding initially was, and i know it's shallow, was the prestige of being a 'coder' as well as creating something unique that could be used by other people
what made you get into coding initially @Happy Humble Hermit
why was that enjoyable for you
why do you think you love video games?
at its heart, doesn't anyone's hobby come from self expression through innovation?
nooo
i'm a noobie and only been coding for like 3-4 months so was looking for some advice
so yeah lol, i've been playing around with web dev but it just seems so daunting so i'm focusing on the basics and working up from first principles
been using a site calling "free code camp"
great resource - very hands on
@Kragt ???
aite
i use mdn too
it's so intimidating initially and due to the number of resources out there i just fucked about for a month jumping from tutorial to tutorial
@Kragt wait so ur a coder?weet ty
sweet ty*
dude i have so many friends coming straight outta uni claiming to know all of web dev, java, c++, php, ruby and all that shit but have no personal projects --- without personal projects you can't really put on ur cv you know a language right?
@shadowlessnexus i'm considering going to university to study computer science purely because the idea of following a set curriculum with like minded people seems appealing to me - yeah i found that too
@Kragt r u a software engineer?
the thing with coding is that, as @Happy Humble Hermit said, does working as a software developer bring anything close to the level of enjoyment you get from creating you own proejcts?
is it shallow to want to learn stuff in order to work at one of the big 4? i love making my own projects but the amount of pride i'd hold myself with working at somewhere like amazon or google would be awwesome
that's one of the reasons i want to go to uni
deep down i think i only want to work there becuase i want to prove to myself that i can be a great engineer
and be accepted into a company that is so hard to get into
yeah
@Kragt if you could go back to when u were 20, what kind of things would you tell yourself with the purpose of accelerating your undersranding of programming?
@shadowlessnexus yeah - i think that the only reason i feel the need to work at big companes or do these big things is down to a deeply rooted insecutity
start teaching?
why do people enjoy teaching and being a mentor? what's the fundamental thing that makes these activities fulfilling?
i've been considering being a foster parent in the future - idk why i want to be one but i just picture havig a son to raise
@Kragt what age group do you pref to mentor
why not?
what's wrong with sweden?
lol ๐ฆ
thanks for the advice man
does robert greene say that the greatest fulfillent come from mastery? do u agree with that
@Kragt ty
uno how you said that being able to pass on information/wisdom to someone by being a mentor is why we want to become mentors - doesn't that reflect how we fear being forgotten and replaced by the next generation? aren't we, in a sense, being selfish and using someone else to pass on what we believe to be important?
if we do what we do for ourselves, why do we care what the next generation does?
i agree with everything you're saying but, just to play devil's advocate : if it's not about you then why do you care?
addressing your second answer: why 'should' you pass on your knowledge? why would it be good for the chain to continue? what if without your mentorship the kid would actually turn out 'better', whatever that means?
"there is no rule or measure except that which you give it" ty for this - this is great
lool, would u consider becoming a foster parent or will yuo stick to mentoring kinds between 18-23?
kids*
also, random question, does anyone know a good free mind map app that can be used for pathing out knowledge in a field
i've tried xmind but you can onlu have one parent from an idea
a 'knowledge bubble' can only have one parent *
is there a way to induce self actualisation? perhaps spending 3 on
* 3 months alone cud do it
what do u study at uni btw and how old r u
well said man
and cool
good evening my mgtow brothers
what's the first principle of mgtow?
the building block everything else builds on
thanks shadow
