I was talking about this with another member of the discord yesterday on voice chat but something to look into maybe in the future is what's going on with California and pot. And I don't mean like the debate, I mean how right now a lot of start-up bussinesses have just dumped a TON of money into pot production and might have to find a way to pull out all their resources really quick.
Like on the freeway near me there are ads for edible products already for sale, apps that help you find pot stores and all of that; what legally is going to happen to those people if the feds crack down? Does creating an ad for pot products and posting it on a bilboard have a different sentance or punishment then being caught selling it?
So in the overlap of this repeal, what happens to those who don't pull their products, or take down their publicly displayed ads on time?
Can you get in trouble for advertising or producing a product in the grey time between it being legal and illegal? It's this weird middle ground that I think would be worth looking into; it would be cool to hear from the farmer who started to buy seeds or even plant crops and now has to consider burnning it all. Or the company that has a warehouse of now-illegal product that they can either try to store for a later date secretly or destroy it now to stay safe.

Hillary really alienated me from the dems. I've always voted blue but then I got a letter a few weeks before the election; it was her "thanking" me for my support. I am on disability and have never donated to the party. My father and other family members have. They never got a thank you letter. I did. I am the only woman in the family; the ones who donated and supported her were hard-working men; this really broke me and made me distance myself from her entirely.

I think American politics is so dynamic because of sort of the frontier history; it's a young country that has had to give the middle finger and fight a lot. It had to go from 3rd world to first world in 200 years. In the late 1800s half of the country was still living in a way that is comparible now to a lot of developing countries, while the other half was 1st world and both ends were trying to create enough infelstructure to have everything even across the board.

Just some advice about the subreddits singled out; if you want to know more about KIA then contact either the hatman or netscape. Both individuals know a lot; Hatman was an admin for that subreddit.
they were called out as problematic and I'm just saying KIA is the kind of community that would love to offer up their perspective on it. The hatman is really my top suggestion for any kind of follow-up; he is no longer on the admin team, but he was their early enough and long enough to be able to offer historical context as to how the subreddit operates.

I have in the past been an EiC at a now closed consumer news website that focused on Lolita fashion. Lolita fashion is a style of clothing who's name suffers from a bad case of Engrish; it is, in reality, a very hyper-prudish group with no relation to the book. However, we struggled with google ads for an extensive period of time when trying to come up with the name for our site because google wanted to almost exclusively serve us sex product and explicitly adult ads if the word "lolita" was too common or in the domain name. On tumblr the term "lolita" is also highly censored and makes it difficult for Lolitas to find content they are interested in; they have had to switch over to hashtags without that word in it. Youtube has also cracked down on Lolita youtubers, or so I've been told, who can no longer place ads on videos that are about Lolita fashion.
Our site eventually went so in the red, along with other issues, that it had to be shut down. Part of the reason was that we had a lot of traffic, but very little ability to utilize ads.
Google ads may have not completely saved it, but we considered it a very mentionable contributor to what happened.
This is true; Lolita fashion is a victim of Engrish. In Japan it does not hold that direct association. The Japanese know of the book, but they do not assume the two are connected. If the style had originated in America the community would have likely changed the name already, but the style began in Harajuku in the 1980s and then very slowly spread across the world. Almost all the brands that make the clothing are Japanese and they say Lolita.
It's also extremely feminst, in a non-contemporary sense. It's literally designed to be wish forefillment for girls and women and is not intended to be seen as attractive. It's a look that goes back to the old fashion notion of the concepts "beauty" and "sexy" being separate from each other. So to say the least; google wanting to give us ads for bondage gear was the opposite of what we wanted; it was just as bad as if they tried to give beer ads to a Mormon website.
I was not directly in charge of the ads for the site, but the feedback I got from the guy who was in charge of it was that we needed to accept limited or no ads if we were going to decline the adult-themed ones. As far as I can tell there was no way to even start a dialog with google about this; it was a take it or leave it situation. We could not explain to a living human at google why their ads would not work for us.

Just finished Lauren's Farmlands documentary and I am both impressed by the production values and frustrated that there is so little solid information.
@Timcast another t-shirt idea is "Religion in Denial". Meaning, if social justice was more honest in admitting a lot of their concepts are very religious in nature and not based on science then people would be less frustrated with the entire movement. People would still be anti-sjw but they'd view it through a less irritating context.
Where this thought process comes from is that patriarchy is very Satan-like in how it is blamed for such a wide variety of issues and "privilege" is a re-branding of original sin. Self identifying as a feminist is a form of being "born again".
And, at least in America, most people don't have a problem with those to identify as holding religious views that may not make sense to others, because it's in the self-admitted context that religion is not necessarily grounded in the modern notion logic or reason. So where a lot of frustration comes from with sjws and feminists is that they argue that what they believe isn't a belief but something super factual.
But I mean, imagine it for just a minute... If all these related leftist groups came out tomorrow and admitted this is a belief system that they hold as true but cannot necessarily prove to everyone else... Wouldn't the level of overall outrage diminish somewhat, since people could then put that overall movement into perspective with how the rest of the world works?
Like, if my feminist friends told me that this is their religion, I would contextualize the conflict between our world views very differently.

So something that Lauren mentioned in hher documentary, but didn't seem to focus on (and maybe it's an important detail?) She said most of the Dutch bought their land from a tribe that, later on in the doc, don't seem to then have a lot of political influence later on in South Africa's history.
So could part of the issue be that the majority of South Africans, being Zulu, don't recognize that the Dutch lawfully bought the land, because they didn't believe the land was there for the other tribe to sell? I'm fact-checking myself right now on this.
Hey, have you guys heard of the glitches a guy named Swankybox on youtube found on one of his videos? Glitch #1 - The long-form video somehow got filed as an ad and started running as an ad across youtube. Glitch #2 - A third party was able to place advertisements on top of his ad that lead to a piracy website... He's tried to get youtube's attention for days but they will not reply.
