damn didn't even know that was a thing

My GF has been Catholic a week now, perhaps I should investigate?

we've been dating for a few years now tho

Idk how much was me, I said Rosary upon Rosary upon Rosary for her so I reckon that did something

sort of semi-practising protestant

We went to catholic high school and I invited her to go to mass with me outside of school etc

Now just got to sell her completely on all the trad stuff

she's dipping her toes in, just needs a bit more catechesis

at any rate, she is a wonderful God fearing woman and I want to marry her when I'm able

yeah of course, the first time I went to Latin mass was her asking if we could go

we talk about it and stuff and like I've showed her how to use the missal and stuff and theology of the mass etc

Btw to all fellow Catholics, remember that there is a Plenary Indulgence on offer this Sunday

@LuxCo are you familiar with the concept of indulgences in general?

not quite

so, our sins are forgiven by nature of Christs sacrifice on the cross, the effects of which we get through the sacraments

so the guilt of your sins are totally forgiven in Baptism/confession

however, the effects of your sins are not

if you are truly repentant at the time of confession, yes

so, the effects of your sins are like: say you killed someone (I know its an extreme example), you can be forgiven totally and all guilt is gone from your soul, but somewhere there is still a family without a dad whose gonna be affected by what you've done forever and you still need to account for that

usually this is partly what we undergo in Purgatory, its burning away the effects of sin on our souls that we didn't quite detach from even though we repented, but also making reparation/suffering the consequences of our effects

since the Church has the authority to bind and to loose, under special circumstances we can get indulgences which relieve us from this

so essentially, if you obtain a plenary indulgence, until you commit another sin, you will not go through purgatory if you die

the conditions are, you must be in a state of grace, receive communion on that day, go to confession within 8 days before or after, pray for the Pope's intentions and do whatever action the specific indulgence states

so for example, this Sunday you pray the prayers associated with the Divine Mercy devotion (chaplet etc) or pray an Our Father, Creed and a devout prayer trusting in Jesus' mercy in front of the tabernacle

oh and complete detachment from affection to sin

which is probably the hardest one to do

as a kid I was intrigued because I knew nothing about them and they seemed like some sort of edgy secret society

but even my boomeresque catholic mum knew they were evil

the vatican has barely been catholic for quite a while now

Too bad Hitler didn't win so the communists and freemasons couldn't work their way in there

They're basically orthodox in communion with Rome, same byzantine traditions etc but just as Catholic as you and I

you can go to a byz cath church and receive all the sacraments whenever, going to their divine liturgy counts as sunday obligation too

they're a perfect example of how the church is truly catholic - meaning universal

most of us are Roman Catholics, but one doesn't have to be Roman to be Catholic

the word Catholic means universal in greek

yeah, and the Pope is roman so the roman church will always have some degree of authority

imagine the church before the schism

every single christian was catholic

apart from heretics

be careful on whether its EO or Eastern Catholic because they appear pretty much identical, same traditions etc

if you were planning to go an recieve sacraments that is

yeah, its very very difficult to switch rites also

it's a bit more than just europe

yes

theology of the body?

I think you have to be very careful and very charitable, not to the expense of denying the truth of course

people react differently, some people need a good kick up the ass with the hard truth

but for others they need more of a gradual push

Like, they need to know they're wrong but they also need to know you love them

On top of what Mozalbete has said, perhaps natural law? If he reckons he's trans then he surely understands there's an inherent difference between men and women. God clearly made men and women with different strengths/roles/outlooks etc for a reason, and he made each of us a particular sex for a reason.

At the same time though you gotta make it clear that he's always welcome and will always be forgiven, like not the kind of sappy, "accompaniment" and "being pastoral" which means basically be apathetic and let them destroy themselves, but if the person thinks you hate them they're not going to listen to you regardless of how logical you are

its not just about showing them that they're wrong, but showing them that they're broken and need redemption and they could be so much more

people who've invested their perceived identity or their life on a specific belief will naturally push back against what they see as a threat to that, regardless of how rational it is. Someone who met their wife and all their friends and built their career in some sort of political party is going to be a lot harder to convince since they have such an emotional investment in that idea beyond whats rationally true

its the same with this stuff because people think whatever delusion they're having be it trans or gay or whatever is their identity, so they need more than just being convinced intellectually

Joseph Sciambra is a good example to google

he was a gay porn star/prostitute and now hes a catholic and doesn't even believe people are actually gay

real holy dude

It's pretty cool

The point of Mary was to literally bear God physically inside her like is that not a crazy thought

2019-04-30 20:44:34 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

ooohhh here we go

2019-04-30 20:44:41 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

he definitely didn't have brothers

2019-04-30 20:45:00 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

thats a translation/cultural thing from the greek

2019-04-30 20:45:23 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

in the ancient world and a lot of cultures today no real distinction in language was made between siblings and cousins

2019-04-30 20:45:38 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

they use the same word they use for brother in other contexts where it can only mean cousin

2019-04-30 20:47:15 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

yeah, for Jesus to give Mary to John to look after, would be a huge massive cultural disrespect for her and his family if Mary actually had other children to care for her

2019-04-30 22:45:32 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Russian military has paratrooper priests

2019-04-30 23:05:46 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

even if you go back to the most "traditional" protestant doctines, it's still not Catholic

2019-04-30 23:06:33 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Rome is in the trash right now it sucks

2019-04-30 23:06:50 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

the smoke of satan has entered the church

2019-04-30 23:07:15 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

thanks Paul VI for noticing that after you left the freaking window open

2019-04-30 23:08:14 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

well it is, it's apostolic doctrine like what more do you want

2019-04-30 23:08:34 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

The popes arent the doctrine

2019-04-30 23:08:40 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

the pope is a man

2019-04-30 23:09:13 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

well, Luther died a heretic, in fact, a heresiarch

2019-04-30 23:09:40 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

fundamentally, if you go back to the basic most traditional protestant doctrines, it is still heresy

2019-04-30 23:09:46 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

like not just schism, heresy

2019-04-30 23:10:03 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

its in that name, protestant, you're protesting

2019-04-30 23:10:52 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

rejection of transubstantiation

2019-04-30 23:11:26 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

he preserved A liturgy which is not the mass

2019-04-30 23:11:34 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

he hated the theology of the mass

2019-04-30 23:11:53 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

he understood liturgy, but he hated what the mass was and what was going on theologically

2019-04-30 23:12:34 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

As far as I understand he also denied that priesthood leaves an indelible mark on the soul and said that a lay person could offer mass in an emergency

2019-04-30 23:14:25 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

because a lay person is not able to transubstantiate

2019-04-30 23:14:47 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

an ordained priest is ontologically different than a lay person

2019-04-30 23:15:08 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

yes, but who has the power to transubstantiate? Jesus

2019-04-30 23:15:28 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

and Jesus delegated his priesthood to his apostles

2019-04-30 23:16:40 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

What?

2019-04-30 23:16:57 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

I eat the host at mass too

2019-04-30 23:17:30 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

David was also a priest wasn't he?

2019-04-30 23:17:53 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

yeah he was king and priest as well am I wrong

2019-04-30 23:18:08 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

the priesthood has always been an exclusive role, ever since the levites

2019-04-30 23:18:28 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

if anyone else wanted to offer the sacrifice they full on got killed by God

2019-04-30 23:18:53 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

whats the point of having designated ordained priests if anyone can do it?

2019-04-30 23:19:52 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@SUPER MALE VITALITYโ„ข I concede David was not a priest

2019-04-30 23:22:06 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Yes, it's called a spiritual communion. God isn't contained within the confines of the sacrament, he can give the same grace to anyone whenever he wants

2019-04-30 23:25:31 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

bruh read the link I sent

2019-04-30 23:27:10 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]
