yeah

2019-04-29 04:55:57 UTC

conversion to catholicism went out the window after Manuel II if I recall

2019-04-29 04:56:20 UTC

oh i see.

2019-04-29 04:57:59 UTC

in short theyre catholic and practiceable by catholics?. I mean I love Latin Rite but I heard of a Catholic who is going to attend one, i just wasnt sure.

2019-04-29 04:58:26 UTC

you mean traditional latin mass?

2019-04-29 04:58:56 UTC

yeah

2019-04-29 04:59:04 UTC

They're basically orthodox in communion with Rome, same byzantine traditions etc but just as Catholic as you and I

2019-04-29 04:59:43 UTC

you can go to a byz cath church and receive all the sacraments whenever, going to their divine liturgy counts as sunday obligation too

2019-04-29 04:59:49 UTC

@Orrbit ah that cleared another question I was going to ask

2019-04-29 05:00:10 UTC

yeah, I'm more familiar with the history of the Empire and it's religion rather then modern day byz-catholics

2019-04-29 05:00:14 UTC

@Orrbitoh snap thats insane (new knowldge to me)

2019-04-29 05:00:30 UTC

they're a perfect example of how the church is truly catholic - meaning universal

2019-04-29 05:00:47 UTC

most of us are Roman Catholics, but one doesn't have to be Roman to be Catholic

2019-04-29 05:00:49 UTC

@Orrbit what does that mean?

2019-04-29 05:00:55 UTC

oh omay

2019-04-29 05:00:58 UTC

okay*

2019-04-29 05:01:03 UTC

I mean

2019-04-29 05:01:04 UTC

the word Catholic means universal in greek

2019-04-29 05:01:09 UTC

Roman is pretty based

2019-04-29 05:01:25 UTC

wow that is super interesting

2019-04-29 05:01:29 UTC

yeah, and the Pope is roman so the roman church will always have some degree of authority

2019-04-29 05:01:35 UTC

imagine the church before the schism

2019-04-29 05:01:42 UTC

every single christian was catholic

2019-04-29 05:01:48 UTC

well

2019-04-29 05:01:53 UTC

apart from heretics

2019-04-29 05:02:02 UTC

I mean there's the case of seperation for middle eastern and greek rites

2019-04-29 05:02:14 UTC

but most of that's geographical seperation

2019-04-29 05:02:18 UTC

I mean ive observed from youtube an EO liturgy and didnt capture much of my attention however this is interesting knowledge

2019-04-29 05:02:48 UTC

be careful on whether its EO or Eastern Catholic because they appear pretty much identical, same traditions etc

2019-04-29 05:02:59 UTC

The Roman Rite will always be the church I love.

2019-04-29 05:03:00 UTC

if you were planning to go an recieve sacraments that is

2019-04-29 05:03:16 UTC

yeah, its very very difficult to switch rites also

2019-04-29 05:03:56 UTC

I probably wouldnt, the people and canons have been very good to me at my parish

2019-04-29 05:04:54 UTC

but thank you @Orrbit and @Deleted User 34578fb24a for that clearing up

2019-04-29 05:05:03 UTC

ye

2019-04-29 05:06:10 UTC

byz empire is fascinating but it's a disappointment how they ended up

2019-04-29 05:06:27 UTC

whys that?

2019-04-29 05:08:38 UTC

essentially as a debt-ridden wreck, living in the ruins of a city, and backstabbing each other, then sitting content like nothing's happened

2019-04-29 05:09:09 UTC

oh lmao wow

2019-04-29 18:36:06 UTC
