why do you think there is such a focus on single payer over nationalized healthcare in the US?

with single payer you still have to deal with the AMA and their pricing/billing system

do you think there is an audiobook I can get I like to listen to books at work because I am a security guard at night?

I had no idea I thought your would still have hospitals and doctors trying to maximize their income as compared to having state control over such things

cool I will download some I assume most of these books are in the public domain it would be awesome if leftypol had a project to make audiobooks out of them for projects like librivox

lol I never thought I would have a Stalinist telling me single payer is better than nationalized healthcare

thanks dude I think the chat is way more chill here than the board

also what is with the split between leftpol and leftypol?

that is what I mean when I say nationalized healthcare

state owned hospitals and doctors being employees of the state and compared to single payer having insurance for everyone but the providers are still private aka doctors and hospitals

sorry I have terrible headache from the fumes after cleaning my apartment and am far less articulate than normally lol

it is ok not the best looking but tastes great just cut up some with my roomies while it is hot from the oven and slamming some with butter

yeah since I been taking more time off from work to qualify for state insurance I have had more time to bake

yeah I make some cookies for my family I visited since my adopted siblings rarely get treats like that

people always tell me to get into the culinary field in regards to work but the people I know say it is super demanding and pays very little

I hate the idea of something I enjoy being turned into a horrible job that destroys my life

being a security guard is a pretty cool job because you have lots of free time to listen to and watch stuff

my job is to pretty much protecting the boss from workers breaking the rules but my boss is a dude who exploits people who are the lowest economically in society felons and immigrants

yeah my job is pretty much chill except for random people walking in off the streets who might be a little bit crazy

it is hard to organize at my work because it is people who are afraid to lose their job because this is their last chance in american society, if they lose this paycheck it could destroy them

I am afraid of losing my job for my politics despite not being very radical

I work in agriculture and the laws are set up to strip rights from the poorest people in society, like in agriculture you don't have to pay overtime for overtime work you just get the standard rate

I have been homeless and had to sleep on my friends and families floor and couches I just fear other workers are so used to the exploitation they are afraid to speak up and demand better treatment and pay

I have a leftist friend that gave me some iww pins actually

I just get frustrated because the boss treats these immigrants like dirt and totally disposable while lots of people in american society blame them for things that are really symptoms of the failure of capitalism

it is weird because I talk with my coworkers who are fed up with how the company acts like they stopped doing hazard pay, night differential, any type of retirement plan, and skirt labor laws that normally apply because it is agriculture

I feel I have it really good compared to them because they are such in a precarious situation

pretty much they work super long hours until the work is done, the managers yell and curse at them I had one old man go home crying, normal labor laws don't apply so you get the strandard rate despite working overtime, they only provide holiday pay for 8 hours of work ever though people work 12 hours or more

the conditions of work are dangerous people have been seriously injured by EPJS, forklifts, and falling stacks. One dude from the Philippines has had his leg crushed by a stack that collapsed on him now his suffers from nerve pain and is lame they keep him on part time light duty to keep him from filing

I am not sure what to do I think my coworkers are happy enough with the situation because it is much better than the work they get back home

like many of the people there are happy to work there because they get payed way more than they get payed back home but the laws are in favor of the farm owners and not the farm workers because the workers are poor immigrants with little political power and the owners are comically wealthy

but there are so many poor people willing to replace us, the turnover rate at my work is very high but still there is more people in need of work than jobs

I would love to have night differential and have others get hazard pay and have the same rights as non agricultural workers but if I lose my job I will lose my apartment I don't have any savings I live check to check really

I really kick myself for never going to proper college

I am not sure how to improve my and my fellow workers situation without jeopardizing my income

I am just lucky because I never had a kid or never got locked up

I think companies will always look at the bottom line no matter who they hurt

cheaper labor from poorer people or machines will always win out against the interests of the current workers imo

I just wonder how society will cope as more and more work becomes automated leaving many without jobs

my main beef with UBI is that work imo is not just a way to get money to live and support yourself, people work to make goods and provide services to enrich the lives of other humans

I would prefer a situation with 100% employment for the able bodied directed by the state to meet peoples needs make sure we all have are necessities then work for there

*from

I think capitalism leads to charles dickens type nightmare of the past where people were working insane hours and barely scraping by

I think having a huge part of the population not laboring to improve their lives or others would be the issue

I think we can use the state to fix major societal issues but it would need to take a lot more wealth from the rich and companies

I am ok to pay more taxes if it means people get the goods and services they need for a happy healthy life

I would prefer the state to organize workers to public works projects like making sure we all have clean water, or suitable housing, or other essential human needs

I would prefer to see a society with 100% employment for the able bodied doing something to help their fellow man

I think the important part is that the objective of the state is the will of the people and that democracy is an essential part in that

I think if you had the state having large scale work projects you could

with companies they produce goods based off what is profitable which mainly meets the desires of individuals who already have money which I think is not very democratic, I think the state organization production based on the needs of the people would be better

but I don't have any say in how things are done at work the boss owns it all but in government the state is made of representatives that we elect

I don't think the state should be in charge of every good and service just what is human needs to make sure everyone gets their needs met no matter their level of income

I think the issue with the USSR is that you have a dramatically undemocratic system

you have workers being told how to work, what is made, and how it is distributed based on the commissar and not the people who receive or make the goods

I think you can have the state represent the will of the people and meet their needs

I feel the USSR just replaced capitalists and bosses with commissars and other bureaucrats

the USSR did great things but I think they could have done it in a better way with more power in the hands of the workers and common people and less political repression

also the idea of an one party system is in my mind rather undemocratic

I think you can

I am not sure about communism but you can have socialism and democracy

if you can briefly break down why the ideas are incompatible?

I am not sure if I am down with marx and his idea of a one party state and no markets and a total command economy

I thing democracy within the state and democracy within the workplace makes sure people get their needs met

I am no expert on leftist ideology but those ideas seem not that great imo

I am not sure how you get to a classless stateless society

why is communism better than socialism in your opinion?

also how do we get there?

just because a system fails doesn't mean it is impossible, capitalism failed in the past and people reverted to feudalism or older methods of society

I just feel capitalist societies have largely led to large concentration of power and wealth in society and led to masses deprived of material needs and political power

isn't it banks and other financial institutions gambling with the world economy and peoples investments

I think one of the issues is that democracy gets subverted because industry has has money to influence the law to give them a leg up often to the detriment of the people

I am not sure if I agree totally with austrian perspective that low interests rates lead to poor use of capital because government manipulation but I think there is a reasonable argument that fucked up priced signals effects how soundly people use capital

but if hayek is right shouldn't nations who engaged in austerity be doing better than nations who used keynes ideas to increase capital available to stimulate the economies?

I think that happens when you have the state heavily influenced by industry

the state serves industry and leaves the people holding the bag

we bailed out the companies who wrecked the economy but didn't have them forgive any debts or made sure people still had homes

I think the state could have negotiated to make sure the banks were still operational but not leave the common folks in the cold still in debt and lacking homes

I guess I just think people should have housing no matter there level of income

*their

I am not sure markets are the best way to make sure people get what they need, maybe what they want but not what they need

hasn't the state provided goods and services in the past and made sure the it was based on need over wealth?

what about healthcare many modern western nations have universal healthcare

needed medical care is run by the state, luxury medical care like cosmetic surgery is a private affair

I wouldn't be so against tmarkets and private sector if distribution of goods and services weren't solely based on income and were based on need

if that is so why isn't the country with the highest life expectancy a country with only private healthcare?

I think the main issue is the lack of democracy in situations of a command economy

if you have people having no say in what needs to be produced and leave it to bureaucrats you are probably much worse off

I am not for a total command economy I would like to make sure the state provides the needs of the people but I would like to see some luxury items provided by the market

sorry I am distracted my roomies fuck super loud

my problem with the free market is the more money you have the more say you have in what is produced

I think products can get better with competition but I am not sure if wages increase

don't wages fall with larger labor pools

if it makes them more money they would that happened at my work, they offered less pay and gave less benefits

lots of people who work for them don't have a choice I can't leave because I need money to afford housing etc.

I don't have any capital because I am a wage worker?

I guess we agree that collusion between the state and business is bad but I think I am better off with more regulation but I feel your would disagree
