2018-07-20 13:57:41 UTC

The fastest i have heard of made 260

2018-07-20 13:58:01 UTC

And several i have heard of dyno at 200

2018-07-20 13:58:07 UTC

Thats at the wheels

2018-07-20 13:58:32 UTC

Now tbh i would not take it that far.

2018-07-20 13:58:44 UTC

But 200? That i might aim for

2018-07-20 13:59:06 UTC

A trifecta tune on its own would get me 4/5 of the way there.

2018-07-20 13:59:43 UTC

Also, really, the cruze isnt that bad @sexytortoiseloverboy

2018-07-20 13:59:53 UTC

Best car in the world? Lolno.

2018-07-20 14:00:08 UTC

PoS is a gross exaggeration tho

2018-07-20 14:01:16 UTC

@LOGiK bigger fuel pump and injectors would be unnecessary for anything under about 270hp. Even then, you could manage

2018-07-20 14:01:34 UTC

I agree trans swap is expensive tho

2018-07-20 14:02:17 UTC

I have actually seen cruzes make over 300hp

2018-07-20 14:02:31 UTC

That however involved far more work than i would ever do

2018-07-20 14:02:39 UTC

Far, far, faaaaar more

2018-07-20 14:06:56 UTC

Wait, do you have the 1.4 liter engine or the 2.0?

2018-07-20 14:10:57 UTC

I don't think the 1.4 is feasibly capable of much over 200, I'm no expert by any means but yeah

2018-07-20 14:34:33 UTC

on the point of offroad stuff from yesterday

2018-07-20 14:45:01 UTC

I want the Jimny to be sold here.

2018-07-20 14:49:41 UTC

ha

2018-07-20 14:49:45 UTC

I remember Jimnys from the 90s

Well that's one sale in the bag lads

2018-07-20 14:49:51 UTC

they.. didn't have a great reputation.

2018-07-20 15:02:24 UTC

Well they were never sold under that name in the US.

2018-07-20 15:03:08 UTC

It was the Samurai here and it actually had and has a great reputation among serious off-roaders.

2018-07-20 15:04:40 UTC

On road it wasn't so great because of the high center of gravity, and it ended up involved in a lawsuit between Suzuki and Consumer reports when they said it was likely to roll.

2018-07-20 15:57:16 UTC

Oh my sister had a samurai

2018-07-20 15:57:34 UTC

She took the family Cutlass and hid it in the mall parking lot

2018-07-20 15:57:53 UTC

And tried to get rid of it but my parents found it so they bought her a new samurai

2018-07-20 16:08:55 UTC

Damm

We do not negotiate with terrorists

fuck your Samurari, we have the car for you

2018-07-20 16:29:07 UTC

wait why did they buy her a new car after hiding a car

2018-07-20 16:32:34 UTC

if I had kids and they tried hiding / getting rid of a car

2018-07-20 16:32:44 UTC

all they'd be driving is a fiat multipla

2018-07-20 16:36:50 UTC

the majority of high ranking cars are such garbage

2018-07-20 16:38:44 UTC

PT Cruiser

2018-07-20 16:39:03 UTC

yup

2018-07-20 16:39:25 UTC

I was most surprised by the mitsubishi lancer being 2

2018-07-20 16:39:42 UTC

I feel like most of the cars I like we're probably sold in too small a volume to get on there.

2018-07-20 16:40:27 UTC

well its also based on a third party warranty company

2018-07-20 16:40:40 UTC

Well these individual cars are really at odds with the JD Power overall brand rankings here.

2018-07-20 16:41:02 UTC

The thing is

2018-07-20 16:41:19 UTC

I feel like it's a certain kind of owner who pays for these third party warranties

2018-07-20 16:41:41 UTC

and also the nature of the business type lends itself to not accommodate rarer vehicles

2018-07-20 16:42:24 UTC

most higher end cars wont have owners paying for that kind of warranty since they're more likely to want their cars to be handled by a specialist/dealer

2018-07-20 16:45:18 UTC

Well that's also based on probably newer vehicles

2018-07-20 16:45:55 UTC

I think warrantydirect will cover anything up to 10 years old

2018-07-20 16:47:14 UTC

oh also since the reliabilityindex is based on UK cars, that means a ton more diesel engines are in that bunch

2018-07-20 16:47:35 UTC

I know the diesel in the lexus IS220D is fucking junk

2018-07-20 16:48:18 UTC

Yeah we don't get a single diesel Lexus here.

2018-07-20 16:48:57 UTC

Also yeah these rankings are based on problems experienced over the course of one year in 3 year old models.

2018-07-20 16:49:18 UTC

from the thread:

2018-07-20 16:49:19 UTC

Unfortunately the engines fitted to the IS220d appear to have serious defects given the amount of posts on here and the web which have in the past resulted in Lexus fitting new engines or completely rebuilding them.

The failed head gasket problem can result in damage to other components like the turbocharger.

Clogged up EGR valves are another along with failed DPFs

The problem was so bad Lexus extended the warranty on the engines to 107,000 miles or 7 years provided the car had a FLSH.

Replacing just the head gasket will probably not provide a lasting repair as it is thought the problem is caused by the cylinder head moving on the block and the heads cannot be skimmed.

Strangely enough Lexus no longer produce a diesel engined model having been stung by their only venture into diesels.

2018-07-20 16:49:43 UTC

I think we talked about this before and it makes no sense because Toyota has made diesels in trucks forever

2018-07-20 16:49:51 UTC

And they're extremely reliable

2018-07-20 16:51:35 UTC

I guess they ballsed up with that engine

2018-07-20 16:51:46 UTC

Was that engine purpose built for that application?

2018-07-20 16:51:56 UTC

I've gotta look that up.

2018-07-20 16:52:00 UTC

It was built for the avensis I believe

2018-07-20 16:52:25 UTC

the problem with a lot of modern diesels sold to the EU is that they try to meet absurd emissions regulations

2018-07-20 16:52:38 UTC

old diesels that didn't care go on forever

2018-07-20 16:52:45 UTC

look at the old mercedes diesels and stuff

2018-07-20 16:53:02 UTC

they were shit to drive but they never went wrong

2018-07-20 16:53:12 UTC

now all these new ones are a mess

2018-07-20 16:57:44 UTC

Yeah the old 300D lasts forever, with the Hilux too, the engine that built their reputation didn't have to meet any crazy emissions standards.

2018-07-20 16:59:42 UTC

it's a shame, all the eco nazi shit is ruining cars

2018-07-20 17:10:23 UTC

Well that's why NA engines are dying out too, also a big part of why manuals are, besides market demands, it's way easier to hit emissions targets for those driving cycle tests when you can program the shift patterns to optimize results.

2018-07-20 17:14:41 UTC

gay

2018-07-20 18:30:35 UTC

@Matt for the record, i have a 1.4T

2018-07-20 18:30:51 UTC

Its actually an engine with quite a bit of tuning potential

2018-07-20 18:31:24 UTC

Problem is mainly that its all built with restrictive peripheries for emissions, fuel economy, cost, etc.

2018-07-20 18:31:45 UTC

Tune, exhaust, and intake is enough for 180 to 190hp.

2018-07-20 18:32:05 UTC

Better tubing for the intercooler will give you 200.

2018-07-20 18:32:53 UTC

Anything more than that and you start needing a stage 2 transmission, turbo upgrade, and a heavier duty tune, but it can be done.

2018-07-20 18:33:25 UTC

But i have never heard of anyone being bottlenecked by, say, injectors

2018-07-20 18:35:17 UTC

Its usually the wimpy af transmission that bottlenecks people. Shit's expensive to upgrade, but to go above 200hp its kinda necessary

2018-07-20 18:36:20 UTC

I can't see any sources showing much over 200hp without using things like methanol

2018-07-20 18:36:39 UTC

"stage 2 transmission"

2018-07-20 18:36:55 UTC

Heavy duty tune?

2018-07-20 18:36:58 UTC

What the fuck

2018-07-20 18:37:04 UTC

Sigh

2018-07-20 18:37:05 UTC

Is this a Need for speed game

2018-07-20 18:37:07 UTC

I mean

2018-07-20 18:37:21 UTC

I know thats not directly applicable for the tune

2018-07-20 18:37:32 UTC

Didnt know a better term off the top of my head

2018-07-20 18:37:46 UTC

There is no term

2018-07-20 18:38:03 UTC

It would be a tune with more boost and leaner ratio on e85

2018-07-20 18:38:07 UTC

Or e30

2018-07-20 18:38:09 UTC

Point is, a one size fits all trifecta tune isnt gonna help much when you start messing with the turbo and intercooler

2018-07-20 18:38:17 UTC
2018-07-20 18:38:21 UTC

Or cams

2018-07-20 18:39:02 UTC

190hp from intake and exhaust? That's a 70% increase in total output, I can't think of any engine where that's the case.

2018-07-20 18:39:43 UTC

Wut

2018-07-20 18:39:48 UTC

I said and tune

2018-07-20 18:39:59 UTC

The tune being the important bit
