Yeah we don't get a single diesel Lexus here.
Also yeah these rankings are based on problems experienced over the course of one year in 3 year old models.

Unfortunately the engines fitted to the IS220d appear to have serious defects given the amount of posts on here and the web which have in the past resulted in Lexus fitting new engines or completely rebuilding them.
The failed head gasket problem can result in damage to other components like the turbocharger.
Clogged up EGR valves are another along with failed DPFs
The problem was so bad Lexus extended the warranty on the engines to 107,000 miles or 7 years provided the car had a FLSH.
Replacing just the head gasket will probably not provide a lasting repair as it is thought the problem is caused by the cylinder head moving on the block and the heads cannot be skimmed.
Strangely enough Lexus no longer produce a diesel engined model having been stung by their only venture into diesels.
I think we talked about this before and it makes no sense because Toyota has made diesels in trucks forever

the problem with a lot of modern diesels sold to the EU is that they try to meet absurd emissions regulations
old diesels that didn't care go on forever
look at the old mercedes diesels and stuff
they were shit to drive but they never went wrong
now all these new ones are a mess
Yeah the old 300D lasts forever, with the Hilux too, the engine that built their reputation didn't have to meet any crazy emissions standards.

Well that's why NA engines are dying out too, also a big part of why manuals are, besides market demands, it's way easier to hit emissions targets for those driving cycle tests when you can program the shift patterns to optimize results.

Its actually an engine with quite a bit of tuning potential
Problem is mainly that its all built with restrictive peripheries for emissions, fuel economy, cost, etc.
Tune, exhaust, and intake is enough for 180 to 190hp.
Better tubing for the intercooler will give you 200.
Anything more than that and you start needing a stage 2 transmission, turbo upgrade, and a heavier duty tune, but it can be done.
But i have never heard of anyone being bottlenecked by, say, injectors
Its usually the wimpy af transmission that bottlenecks people. Shit's expensive to upgrade, but to go above 200hp its kinda necessary
I can't see any sources showing much over 200hp without using things like methanol

It would be a tune with more boost and leaner ratio on e85
Or e30
Point is, a one size fits all trifecta tune isnt gonna help much when you start messing with the turbo and intercooler
