it's a shame, all the eco nazi shit is ruining cars

2018-07-20 17:10:23 UTC

Well that's why NA engines are dying out too, also a big part of why manuals are, besides market demands, it's way easier to hit emissions targets for those driving cycle tests when you can program the shift patterns to optimize results.

gay

2018-07-20 18:30:35 UTC

@Matt for the record, i have a 1.4T

2018-07-20 18:30:51 UTC

Its actually an engine with quite a bit of tuning potential

2018-07-20 18:31:24 UTC

Problem is mainly that its all built with restrictive peripheries for emissions, fuel economy, cost, etc.

2018-07-20 18:31:45 UTC

Tune, exhaust, and intake is enough for 180 to 190hp.

2018-07-20 18:32:05 UTC

Better tubing for the intercooler will give you 200.

2018-07-20 18:32:53 UTC

Anything more than that and you start needing a stage 2 transmission, turbo upgrade, and a heavier duty tune, but it can be done.

2018-07-20 18:33:25 UTC

But i have never heard of anyone being bottlenecked by, say, injectors

2018-07-20 18:35:17 UTC

Its usually the wimpy af transmission that bottlenecks people. Shit's expensive to upgrade, but to go above 200hp its kinda necessary

2018-07-20 18:36:20 UTC

I can't see any sources showing much over 200hp without using things like methanol

2018-07-20 18:36:39 UTC

"stage 2 transmission"

2018-07-20 18:36:55 UTC

Heavy duty tune?

2018-07-20 18:36:58 UTC

What the fuck

2018-07-20 18:37:04 UTC

Sigh

2018-07-20 18:37:05 UTC

Is this a Need for speed game

2018-07-20 18:37:07 UTC

I mean

2018-07-20 18:37:21 UTC

I know thats not directly applicable for the tune

2018-07-20 18:37:32 UTC

Didnt know a better term off the top of my head

2018-07-20 18:37:46 UTC

There is no term

2018-07-20 18:38:03 UTC

It would be a tune with more boost and leaner ratio on e85

2018-07-20 18:38:07 UTC

Or e30

2018-07-20 18:38:09 UTC

Point is, a one size fits all trifecta tune isnt gonna help much when you start messing with the turbo and intercooler

2018-07-20 18:38:17 UTC
2018-07-20 18:38:21 UTC

Or cams

2018-07-20 18:39:02 UTC

190hp from intake and exhaust? That's a 70% increase in total output, I can't think of any engine where that's the case.

2018-07-20 18:39:43 UTC

Wut

2018-07-20 18:39:48 UTC

I said and tune

2018-07-20 18:39:59 UTC

The tune being the important bit

2018-07-20 18:40:10 UTC

"Yeah, about that EcoBoost engine lol

Pretty much all of them are at risk for head warpage prior to 50k miles

The cylinders have a "water cooled jacket", so they're only attached to the rest of the head at the bottom end"

2018-07-20 18:40:17 UTC

Tune of what? An ECU remap?

2018-07-20 18:40:23 UTC

Yes

2018-07-20 18:40:30 UTC

It's called an open deck, and it's only one motor that's open deck.

2018-07-20 18:41:00 UTC

Also that thread sounds about like what i was saying

2018-07-20 18:41:04 UTC

190hp is easy

2018-07-20 18:41:11 UTC

Above 200hp takes work

2018-07-20 18:41:28 UTC

Which, tbf, isnt worth it on an econobox

2018-07-20 18:41:44 UTC

I have seen people do it, but they throw tons of money at it

2018-07-20 18:42:00 UTC

I might do that if i get a second car tho

2018-07-20 18:43:28 UTC

at no point does it suggest 190 was easy, unfortunately the guy removed his setup from his signature but he does say he was running 33% E85 mixed with 93 gas
