Because it's only a matter of time before a natural disaster like an earth quake, solar flare, asteroid impact or volcanic eruption collides with one or more nuclear plants or nuclear waste storage facilities and creates an unprecedented nuclear disaster.

For example, when Yellowstone erupts hundreds of reactors will be destroyed in its blast radius creating unfathomable radiation for millions of years.

Or when a big enough solar flare happens and we have a thousand simultaneous chernobyls/fukushimas.

The earth is too dynamic and chaotic for long term storage of large volumes of nuclear waste to be safe over the thousands of years it takes to become inert.
