(just to give cable weight/dunno)

2017-01-10 16:53:27 UTC

Bullet vibes

2017-01-10 16:53:44 UTC

Ferrite cores perhaps

2017-01-10 16:54:01 UTC

Tervy is probably the most right but idk

2017-01-10 16:54:15 UTC

You're saying it's not bullet vibes?

2017-01-10 16:54:32 UTC

What type of meme is a bullet vibe

2017-01-10 16:55:02 UTC

Should be pretty pointless with ferrite on thin headphone cables...

2017-01-10 16:55:38 UTC

im pretty sure they're there to give a little weight so when you put them over your ear they dont curve away too much

2017-01-10 17:00:08 UTC

tempted to sacrifice my ATEs to see whats inside :D

2017-01-10 17:00:44 UTC

Do it!!!

2017-01-10 17:00:50 UTC

i really like my hds2s but only the earbuds that came with them fit

2017-01-10 17:09:44 UTC

@Archy Chinese folks pick English names for themselves for [insert book here] reasons, but the tl;dr is, no, they don't pick a name for your sake.

2017-01-10 17:14:15 UTC

I'm planning on making a comparison video with the kz ate vs bose soundtrue vs the shitty Samsung earbuds that come in the box of phones

2017-01-10 17:14:23 UTC

So far really like the kz

2017-01-10 17:27:35 UTC

Anyone have a good review for xiaomi note 3 prime edition + MI band 2. Just added it to my cart

2017-01-10 17:28:03 UTC

google exists

2017-01-10 17:44:34 UTC

I see redmi note 4 isn't that much more expensive

2017-01-10 18:05:27 UTC

Any thoughts on how weak the nintendo NX is? I cant belive it's so weak

2017-01-10 18:16:18 UTC

any thoughts on how all games made using hardware less powerful the the current generation of computer hardware are absolute garbage? the graphics in final fantasy vii are terrible. people who loved that game must have been mentally handicapped.

2017-01-10 18:17:11 UTC

So your thought is that it doesnt matter.

2017-01-10 18:17:27 UTC

i don't have thoughts, only shitty opinions

2017-01-10 18:18:09 UTC

you can buy a 22-core xeon processor on ebay if you want a really powerful computer

2017-01-10 18:19:43 UTC

if nintendo announced that they were going to give creative freedom to some well deserved game developers for their console and stuff like that it'd be worth it is what i'm saying, sir. it's about the software

2017-01-10 18:20:20 UTC

sorry for the snark but nintendo has never ever been on the cutting edge of technology. they make fun kid game systems

2017-01-10 18:20:23 UTC

for cheap

2017-01-10 18:21:01 UTC

Id say that's unrelated but the problem with used xeons is motherboards, which arent just expensive but will have to shipped expensively to my country

2017-01-10 18:21:06 UTC

*maybe* snes was the one time when they had better technology. but that was a weird outlier

2017-01-10 18:22:32 UTC

its more interesting that the switch|nx doesn't really give a damn about VR as its core technology. either they still have latent pain from the virtualboy or they just know they can't compete in that area and it is saturated

2017-01-10 18:23:56 UTC

Strap in boy, just ordered redmi note 4

2017-01-10 18:24:32 UTC

also re: xeons, if you are in a country with any sort of datacenter infrastructure, you could very well try to lurk on forums where hosting folks linger to get used hardware. you'd likely get a reasonable deal if you give anything close to a reasonable offer. otherwise, ask a friend and put the mobo on carry on luggage?

2017-01-10 18:25:13 UTC

or better yet: volunteer to work with one of those crazy people that help run the infrastructure of the internet?

2017-01-10 18:25:32 UTC
2017-01-10 18:26:06 UTC

I've been looking but everything is sold for reasonable prices, unlike the US or whereever they're sold like dirt

2017-01-10 18:26:19 UTC

fucking magnets

2017-01-10 18:26:19 UTC

so useful

2017-01-10 18:26:30 UTC

did you make sure you got the one with the right radio frequency bands for your service provider, @Archy

2017-01-10 18:27:02 UTC

Nintendo seems like they're giving up on stationary consoles and going full mobile(with a dock). Also giving up on gimmicks.

2017-01-10 18:27:26 UTC

docking is my fetish

2017-01-10 18:27:32 UTC

idk the new console seems like a throwback to the game and watch vs form factor which is fine and good

2017-01-10 18:27:56 UTC

i was a young tyke when I had many a fun day with my donkey kong vs ice hockey game

2017-01-10 18:28:17 UTC

was awesome at primary school; was envied

2017-01-10 18:28:22 UTC

I think VR is a pretty bad, so im not suprised.

2017-01-10 18:29:14 UTC

vr is bad now the way 3d printing was bad 6 years ago

2017-01-10 18:29:42 UTC

or maybe they're the same; they're both nascent technologies that have a lot of headroom to improve yet

2017-01-10 18:30:06 UTC

remember that VR was basically abandoned for years

2017-01-10 18:30:25 UTC

and then oculus decided to rethink the whole core design and rebooted it

2017-01-10 18:31:05 UTC

VR/AR will get there in the sooner future; i agree w/ you that the current stuff is still gimmicky

2017-01-10 18:31:25 UTC

We'll see, there's just no good way to control most games so far. And they're useless for desktop use due to low resolution, and overpriced, at least for 1080p

2017-01-10 18:31:30 UTC

And no games.

2017-01-10 18:31:59 UTC

there's a lot of unexplored room for asymmetrical multiplayer gaming using a headset

2017-01-10 18:32:04 UTC

and tablets

2017-01-10 18:32:16 UTC

What would be good would be a screen replacement.

2017-01-10 18:32:30 UTC

Depends on what you're looking for.

2017-01-10 18:32:36 UTC

Resolution, size etc?

2017-01-10 18:32:50 UTC

we've definitely beaten the horse damn well and dead with games on a 2d plane

2017-01-10 18:33:06 UTC

including 2d projections of 3d environments (fps)

2017-01-10 18:33:58 UTC

Not really anything more you can do with 3d, it's just immersion

2017-01-10 18:34:55 UTC

but especially with esport taking more of an accepted role in society, there is room for games that use stuff like VR along with people playing support using smart devices, deep analog controllers and such that start to blur the line between a traditional electronic game and traditional sport / performance

2017-01-10 18:35:36 UTC

That's far out, man.

2017-01-10 18:35:37 UTC

which is exciting to me tbh since maybe it can be a cure to some of the ills in the current gaming arena

2017-01-10 18:35:59 UTC

i mean, DDR amirite

2017-01-10 18:36:05 UTC

there's plenty of precedent for it

2017-01-10 18:36:24 UTC

Dance dance revolution..?

2017-01-10 18:36:36 UTC

just needs to be more of a team accessible thing and for the hardware to be put out by a risk-taker with deep pockets like nintendo

2017-01-10 18:37:05 UTC

yeah dance dance revolution. more spectator sport than most, one of the most watchable things

2017-01-10 18:37:39 UTC

Sure, it's a niche arcade thing. Where VR like vive fits

2017-01-10 18:38:42 UTC

the dev process and the kits just still aren't so mature yet you know

2017-01-10 18:39:18 UTC

i'm sure i'm not that special in thinking about this stuff, but getting buy-in and work done towards making neato things is risky and arduous in the beginning

2017-01-10 18:39:38 UTC

anyways switch is an incremental thing towards more localized social gaming

2017-01-10 18:40:36 UTC

Then they could use very powerful machines so 4k screens are viable and have threadmills so you can acctually move somewhat propperly, but it'd be a very limited arcade thing.

2017-01-10 18:40:54 UTC

How is switch more localized than previous nintendo?

2017-01-10 18:42:32 UTC

that's difficult to say; i may have misspoke, but at least from their marketing material, they do seem to be trying to recapture a more seamless local multiplayer experience

2017-01-10 18:42:51 UTC

Gaming in general has become much less local, online is now the standard and ps4/xbone has few splitscreen titles.

2017-01-10 18:43:43 UTC

i specifically mean a local group vs an online team, in the same vein as a team of folks playing CS or league

2017-01-10 18:44:41 UTC

with the emphasis that the experience locally is assymetical ala "keep talking and we don't explode" or whatever

2017-01-10 18:46:16 UTC

and less throwaway than people locally on the screenless controls manipulating a single cursor or a turret and using their lower level of attachment to a display to use their cognitive skills in other aspects of the "competition", e.g. strategy or planning, support and comms, etc

2017-01-10 18:47:14 UTC

so anyway

2017-01-10 18:47:47 UTC

none of that stuff would have anything to do with raw computational power, save the niceties of having the capability to real-time encode video for built-in twitch streaming or whatever else

2017-01-10 18:48:03 UTC

it's a lot of hard dev work and UI work

2017-01-10 18:48:28 UTC

Yeah then they have to make a good modern game..

2017-01-10 18:50:12 UTC

And they'll probably be pretty reluctant to do realistic settings with the weak system

2017-01-10 18:50:16 UTC

i'm risking getting into philosophy here, but I get the feeling that the folks who emphasize graphics and immersion are less in it for gameplay and competition as much as experienceporn and extrareality eyecandy

2017-01-10 18:51:38 UTC

i can appreciate it all, but those games don't so much tickle my need to play a game as much as titles that focus on actual problem solving or mechanics

2017-01-10 18:53:56 UTC

all this shit is risky compared to sitting backseat like Valve is or churning out metrics-driven development like blizzard

2017-01-10 18:54:32 UTC

maybe nintendo is being risk-adverse too but we'll see how their first party titles pan out

2017-01-10 18:54:39 UTC

I think the VR devs are playing it safe though by pricing so high, that they wont lose bad if it flops

2017-01-10 18:55:10 UTC

They could risk more and push it out significantly cheaper but that's a risk

2017-01-10 18:56:30 UTC

software or hardware? the hardware is arguably as cheap as it gets now in the current incarnation

2017-01-10 18:56:52 UTC

Hardware, but software too

2017-01-10 18:57:11 UTC

close to being subsidized by title sales but that's another rabbit hole

2017-01-10 18:57:57 UTC

VR won't reap too many benefits from moore's law and is limited by the physical kit

2017-01-10 18:59:01 UTC

big deep rabbit hole but if people pay $450 for a pair of sunglasses and $400 for a cell phone it's kinda silly to say that VR is overly expensive

2017-01-10 19:00:01 UTC

The rift is mostly a cheap ~1080p screen, gryros, expensive headphones and the sensor

2017-01-10 19:00:13 UTC

it costs $400 for a 70" 4k TV at walmart in the US now

2017-01-10 19:01:04 UTC

so the redirection of funds could go towards the VR kit if popular culture and a team of attractive streamers starts to generate that mindshare to create demand

2017-01-10 19:01:28 UTC

people seek the lust-worthy items instead of investing in something silly like a 401k

2017-01-10 19:02:09 UTC

a $500 VR kit seems like a natural progression

2017-01-10 19:02:41 UTC

Also yes, they're different experiences, competitive games and casual games are more like board games, either something you want to be good at to prove yourself but for most people something to do with friends while immersive games try to immerse you in a different world and amaze you

2017-01-10 19:03:22 UTC

yup... so VR is perfect for that market

2017-01-10 19:03:34 UTC

the Nintendo Switch takes the more common ground road

2017-01-10 19:05:06 UTC

there's an intersection of the two that would hopefully evolve things further

2017-01-10 19:05:47 UTC

be it AR or local multiplayer "copilots" who remain in the "real world"

2017-01-10 19:06:13 UTC

The BoM of a rift is ~$200(and could be reduced even more by larger scale), they could cut the price quite a bit if they were confident and wanted to get VR into homes

2017-01-10 19:06:39 UTC

the worst thing is lukewarm press

2017-01-10 19:07:06 UTC

tohsaka rin has left!

2017-01-10 19:07:16 UTC

if it was slashed in price today and people bought them up cheap, and it became like pokemon go, it would be a disaster

2017-01-10 19:07:16 UTC

But they're playing it safe and making customers pay for all the RND so if they fail they wont have huge losses.

2017-01-10 19:07:48 UTC

a VR shop needs good rapport with developers

2017-01-10 19:09:08 UTC

if they made a dust-magnet doorstop right off that bat for the sake of being first to market then they might as well say they're making it a totally open platform for everyone and they're just going to liquidate and become a nonprofit organization

2017-01-10 19:09:21 UTC

because it commodizes everything they've made

2017-01-10 19:09:30 UTC

race to the bottom is not good

2017-01-10 19:09:58 UTC

The closest I can think of like that is battlefield, very immerive while having fun and lasting mechanics, and they had the commander mode in bf4. Commander mode failed though since the commander couldnt do much.

2017-01-10 19:10:10 UTC

hopefully the money they make goes towards investments in better development tools

2017-01-10 19:10:30 UTC

Somethng like that needs loads of both CPU and GPU horsepower though

2017-01-10 19:11:14 UTC

games like battlefield and mechwarrior would definitely benefit, and are obvious choices for launch titles, but i'd hazard to guess that the blockbuster titles in that vein would be much more interesting than that

2017-01-10 19:13:16 UTC

i'm sad there aren't more games that try that RTS+FPS formula since it can be fun, albeit hard to balance

2017-01-10 19:13:39 UTC

world of warships kinda does that with carriers

2017-01-10 19:15:05 UTC

anyway there are people getting paid to do this stuff, rest assured

2017-01-10 19:15:12 UTC

nintendo can have my mcbucks

2017-01-10 19:15:24 UTC

for not following the pack at least

2017-01-10 19:16:55 UTC

But a cheaper VR sets would mean incentive for people to acctually make serious games, which are almost nonexistant atm, they'll have to get them out before others will invest in games for them. Hype also dies down, and it wont come back for a good while once it's a flop in peoples mind.

2017-01-10 19:19:00 UTC

It wouldnt make them more of a comodity, other than being less of luxury items, it'd acctually make more competition less likely to enter the market if they pushed out the best product for a good price.

2017-01-10 19:19:37 UTC

And I dont rest assured about anything in gaming, I see little but decline.

2017-01-10 19:21:26 UTC

you might be right, we wouldn't know without more empircal data

2017-01-10 19:21:44 UTC

rts+fps?

2017-01-10 19:21:49 UTC

so EVE?

2017-01-10 19:22:26 UTC

the oldest example i can think of is Starsiege Tribes and the Battlezone reboot from 1999

2017-01-10 19:23:27 UTC

in a weird way, MOBAs capture that feel since it's so monomanically skewed towards one unit

2017-01-10 19:25:34 UTC

Shame about mobas that't theyre so much more about pure skill than fun tactics.

2017-01-10 19:27:00 UTC

i'd enjoy playing an FPS against player-programmed AI

2017-01-10 19:28:07 UTC

so folks would throw together some strategy and loadout against incoming human attackers who have all the disadvantages except "superior" realtime adaptability

2017-01-10 19:28:20 UTC

When we were new to mobas we'd talk strategies and even draw at a whiteboard at a LAN, but eventually we realized that's pointless at normal levels of play (Maybe even at pro?) since it's mostly about the skill.

2017-01-10 19:29:36 UTC

yeah APM and pixel-perfect distance calculations win the day in mobas unfortunately as you've observed, and it's a problem of balancing a game over time due to the spirit of humans and their ability to find exploitative tactics quickly

2017-01-10 19:30:08 UTC

that's kinda why i'm such a fan of asymmetry

2017-01-10 19:30:20 UTC

symmetric games tend to get degenerate quick quickly

2017-01-10 19:30:28 UTC

and frankly, boring

2017-01-10 19:30:57 UTC

it becomes about skill very quickly, especially if randomness is minimized

2017-01-10 19:31:24 UTC

might as well play rock papers scissors

2017-01-10 19:31:34 UTC

Also a reason why I think competitiveness makes games less fun. Not that there's much you can do about it. More that I think the pro scene, twich etc is making gaming worse.

2017-01-10 19:32:17 UTC

on the contrary, i think games are designed with fun as an afterthought, so competitive games are less fun

2017-01-10 19:32:49 UTC

haha also true

2017-01-10 19:33:28 UTC

it's a frequent complaint of friends of mine that fun takes a backseat to monetization and engagement

2017-01-10 19:33:36 UTC

who work in design and such

2017-01-10 19:34:01 UTC

one guy went indie and the other left gaming

2017-01-10 19:34:19 UTC

i'm glad i never entered the industry

2017-01-10 19:34:26 UTC

It's probably pretty bad to work in most big companies

2017-01-10 19:34:48 UTC

If you care about the game, anyways

2017-01-10 19:34:56 UTC

making money to send your kids to college is directly incompatible with taking risks for fun and interest

2017-01-10 19:35:12 UTC

so of course big companies make the shit shovelware you see

2017-01-10 19:36:40 UTC

anyways gaming will never die and honestly it is possible that boardgaming is where true gaming will forever live on, even when electronic games become passe in favor of experience rides

2017-01-10 19:37:26 UTC

there's enough games that exist today in the human library that I don't think it'll be a great tragedy if the games industry suffers for the short term

2017-01-10 19:37:44 UTC

i still have yet to finish playing final fantasy xii, for example

2017-01-10 19:37:55 UTC

(ha)

2017-01-10 19:38:08 UTC

It'll be locked down experience rides and competitive gaming, probably

2017-01-10 19:38:33 UTC

you only need pen, paper, and imagination to be a game dev

2017-01-10 19:38:53 UTC

that's how the best folks design most games in the beginning anyway

2017-01-10 19:39:04 UTC

the rest is just lubricant

2017-01-10 19:39:25 UTC

You could say elder scrolls is a "experience ride" but you're at the controls and can do as you please

2017-01-10 19:40:01 UTC

But top notch graphics and sound is a big part of it

2017-01-10 19:40:29 UTC

(But of course not very good unmodded)

2017-01-10 19:40:45 UTC

i have more fun playing with human beings, even if it is by proxy / turn based

2017-01-10 19:41:02 UTC

super mario maker is in a way multiplayer in that way

2017-01-10 19:41:40 UTC

Well... I am too, but only when Im free to do what I want

2017-01-10 19:42:04 UTC

maybe because i try to go out and camp / ride my bike, i'm not as wowed by graphics as much

2017-01-10 19:42:18 UTC

That's only really avalible in minecraft and to some extent stuff like dayZ

2017-01-10 19:42:45 UTC

No I like camping and enjoying nature, but I want to look at beautiful things in games too

2017-01-10 19:43:08 UTC

anyway gotta cook lunch but it was nice talking, feel free to respond i'll reply later

2017-01-10 19:43:18 UTC

Byebye

2017-01-10 20:02:25 UTC

Fuck. This PSU is not dissasemblable

2017-01-10 21:13:52 UTC

Anyone who got the Xiaomi Mi Box international edition?

2017-01-10 21:29:13 UTC

i want elder scrolls 6 but itll probably be shit

2017-01-10 21:29:22 UTC

they'll be a mobile game

2017-01-10 21:32:07 UTC

>google elder scrolls 6
>second hit is a 2 year old site from computer magazine
"next bethesda hit will be 'argonia' not Fallout 4"

2017-01-10 21:32:10 UTC

@Deleted User At worst it'll have a Mobile companion app

2017-01-10 21:32:16 UTC

Probably for inventory

2017-01-10 21:32:47 UTC

my bet that its for "family life"

2017-01-10 21:32:55 UTC

I actually didn't mind these game companies trying to make a wii u out of the non-nintendo consoles

2017-01-10 21:33:04 UTC

what has been theme in E.scrolls lately

2017-01-10 21:33:05 UTC

Kind of neat actually

2017-01-10 21:33:06 UTC

Welcome to the /csg/ server, <@!163028380130738176>!

2017-01-10 21:33:11 UTC

Shame I barely used it

2017-01-10 21:33:24 UTC

There just wasn't a huge reasoning for it

2017-01-10 21:34:02 UTC

Are HD681 comfy? i am an audio pleb and dont listen to music. it is only for vidya and youtube stuff. i have got a big head, so i fear that the chink head sizes will give me headaches

2017-01-10 21:34:26 UTC

yes

2017-01-10 21:35:12 UTC

why do I have the hots for xperia phones?

2017-01-10 22:11:18 UTC

Welcome to the /csg/ server, @Jacob!

2017-01-10 22:11:32 UTC

when you select pay with credit card on aliexpress it says "powered by alipay" at the top does that mean I'm actually using what everyone calls alipay? or is that someting else?

2017-01-10 23:06:52 UTC

as I understand it: the real deal is something else

2017-01-10 23:07:10 UTC

It's basically the alibaba version of paypal

2017-01-10 23:07:15 UTC

Don't be concerned

2017-01-10 23:08:24 UTC

yeah i know but I heard people say that you need to pay with alipay so I was wondering if just clicking through on the order and inputting credit card details was "using alipay" like people suggest or do I need to make some account or something

2017-01-10 23:09:05 UTC

nah you dont need to

2017-01-10 23:09:17 UTC

you can though, then you ll have a balance like when using paypal
