2017-10-22 12:32:35 UTC

you've got more than enough energy stored to not have to eat for a full month

2017-10-22 12:32:43 UTC

pretty much

2017-10-22 12:32:57 UTC

I think I'm going to do the water-diet again.

2017-10-22 12:33:16 UTC

meat is high in caloric content too, consider substituting beef or whatevr, with just chicken

2017-10-22 12:33:48 UTC

and just do shit that involves basic physical exercise, walk to the store, carry your own groceries, dont drive

2017-10-22 12:33:59 UTC

if a place is under 5 km, just walk there

2017-10-22 12:34:15 UTC

dont even need to go to the gym for that

2017-10-22 12:34:46 UTC

>chicken is filled with xenoestrogens

2017-10-22 12:34:53 UTC

if you want to gym, start with simple kinesthetics, body-weight-exercises, squads, lunges, planks, pushups, that stuff

2017-10-22 12:35:00 UTC

and weird hormone shit

2017-10-22 12:35:21 UTC

everything is full of hormones, it's not even a choice at this point

2017-10-22 12:35:28 UTC

and varnov, stop drinking beer

2017-10-22 12:35:36 UTC

you either make your own food and raise your own chickens or you're fucked.

2017-10-22 12:35:41 UTC

Well, if you buy from a local farmer

2017-10-22 12:35:47 UTC

you can buy things organically to have less garbage in it

2017-10-22 12:35:54 UTC

I don't drink alcohol

2017-10-22 12:36:05 UTC

beer = fat beer gut mode

2017-10-22 12:36:14 UTC

I also have to stop drinking soda

2017-10-22 12:37:07 UTC

yep

2017-10-22 12:38:00 UTC

Okay I have to do this

2017-10-22 12:38:12 UTC

thanks

2017-10-22 12:38:24 UTC

Sadly I hate swimming,

2017-10-22 12:38:30 UTC

honestly, the simplest thing is to walk instead of drive to places

2017-10-22 12:38:34 UTC

There are plenty of farmers markets out there

2017-10-22 12:38:45 UTC

so I have to find another thing that I can do that doesn't kill my knees.

2017-10-22 12:39:01 UTC

since it doesnt involve having to make time to go to the gym etc, it's far more sustainable, and you're less likely to stop doing it due to lack of discipline

2017-10-22 12:39:19 UTC

and eat less

2017-10-22 12:39:30 UTC

simple less calories is the simplest thing you can do to lose weight

2017-10-22 12:40:00 UTC

thanks

2017-10-22 12:40:02 UTC

I wil ltry

2017-10-22 12:40:13 UTC

also, less time on computers

2017-10-22 12:40:20 UTC

so see you around

2017-10-22 12:41:04 UTC

>less time on computers

2017-10-22 20:23:23 UTC

How much sleep does everyone go for?

2017-10-22 20:23:50 UTC

On average I sleep about 6 to 8 hours.

2017-10-22 20:24:18 UTC

i usually get about 7 a night on average, though recently less with the baby

2017-10-22 20:25:51 UTC

On average, I get about 8 hours, and I never go below 7. Though it took me a while to get around finding the optimal schedule.

2017-10-22 20:26:33 UTC

does everyone get plenty of exercise?

2017-10-22 20:56:54 UTC

yes

2017-10-22 23:46:53 UTC

Something I realized fairly recently is that training yourself to stay positive in the face of just about anything is really helpful with respect to exercise goals. It's pretty fucking hard for a natural cynic though, I still struggle with it here and there.

2017-10-23 00:20:13 UTC

Optimism is something that I never had inherently either, and I have been trying to cultivate it for a long time.

2017-10-23 00:20:46 UTC

Just the amount of optimism that does not open the mind to delusion.

2017-10-23 07:21:16 UTC

Hving faith and staying hopeful in every situation usually allows you to do things that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

2017-10-23 07:21:49 UTC

You have to believe that anything you want to achieve is possible, and there is always hope for a better outcome.

2017-10-23 07:22:32 UTC

If you don't, you'll probably just give up and eat another cookie, because "I will never be slim and sexy ever again, and no-one will ever find me attractive".

2017-10-23 10:04:43 UTC

Thought there was a fitness section for whatever reason but I guess not so I'll post this here. If anyone is interested in talking about nutrition (bulking diets, cutting diets, supplements, diets for cardiovascular health, etc) or various routines (strength routines, aesthetics routines, cardiovascular health routines, etc) let me know

2017-10-23 10:31:11 UTC

Any tips on milk consumption?

2017-10-23 23:20:01 UTC

2017-10-24 02:04:14 UTC

I need tips on buying local. Does anyone have first hand experience, I'm not too familiar. Generally the produce is expensive, so I suppose building a good relationship with who you're buying from is a good start.

2017-10-24 02:17:02 UTC

Find a Farmers Market

2017-10-24 20:01:32 UTC

Here's a book relevant to self-improvement and our objective. It is also written by the same author as our <#371703938178744320> text.

2017-10-25 18:27:54 UTC

Chris what's your routine?

2017-10-25 19:36:00 UTC

I did PHAT for 3 years, now i work 12hours a day and do a push pull strength routine on saturday and sunday as its all i got time for

2017-10-25 19:36:17 UTC

But i work in mining so im literally lifting pipes and swinging shit 12hrs a day

2017-10-25 19:36:27 UTC

oh nice

2017-10-26 19:41:30 UTC

How much time does everyone spend in front of a screen in a day?

2017-10-26 19:41:41 UTC

too much

2017-10-26 19:43:07 UTC

you don't understand, mom

2017-10-26 19:58:05 UTC
2017-10-26 20:00:38 UTC

It's my job, I try to stay off as much as I can

2017-10-26 20:04:14 UTC

I try not to go higher than 4 consecutive hours. Staring at a monitor is very stimulating.

2017-10-26 20:04:42 UTC

It puts you into a trance-like state after a decent amount of usage.

2017-10-26 20:05:12 UTC

Depends what you're doing I guess

2017-10-27 03:56:30 UTC

I program in several languages every day

2017-10-27 03:56:47 UTC

I really just want money so I can start over

2017-10-28 13:54:22 UTC

Opinions on alcohol consumption?

2017-10-28 15:06:19 UTC

if it's wine, you're doing fine
if it's beer, you're probably a queer

2017-10-28 15:06:25 UTC
2017-10-28 16:24:40 UTC

Don't drink in excess

2017-10-28 16:24:53 UTC

Beer increases estrogen levels

2017-10-28 16:25:29 UTC

Personally I keep it to special occasions and when I do drink it's usually a cider or two

2017-10-28 16:25:37 UTC

Or some good quality mead

2017-10-29 00:28:40 UTC

I've been lazy for the past week and took off from exercising. Made me feel like shit. I'm going read, exercise, and practice piano each for an hour everyday. Between these, school, work and scouts, I should be pretty busy with an hour or two to relax.

2017-10-29 02:02:11 UTC

I finally was able to start exercising again last week(I'd been in the middle of a move and hadn't been able to for about two weeks) I was surprised how hard it kicked my tail

2017-10-29 02:02:44 UTC

Good news is I'm already bouncing back to where I was

2017-10-29 02:03:13 UTC

The human body is a marvelous thing

2017-10-30 18:40:01 UTC

I am proud of myself today. Started dieting and adding in some cardio last month, and have been sticking to my plan like a damn limpet... And I went from 155 to 149 lb. It's the first time I've been under 150 since 13ish and honestly, it is so cool to see. I've still got 10 more to go before I'm comfortable, and I know the holidays are coming up, but I really think I can be 140 by Christmas Break. Dunno how much y'all care, but I'm really happy, so.

2017-10-30 18:55:09 UTC

Keep up the good work @Nix! Don't let holiday get-togethers throw you off your plan! How tall are you?

2017-10-30 18:59:12 UTC

Don't worry! I'm quite stubborn when I put my mind to something, and the smaller portions have been great for me just not being capable of eating so much. 5foot 5 inches, which is just about average for my demographic.

2017-10-30 21:12:22 UTC

Nice, I started dieting too, gained weight in conjunction with my wife and got up to 198 which is the heaviest I've ever been. Currently back down to 185 and still going down. Feels good

2017-10-30 21:18:50 UTC

I went for 2 weeks with only breakfast each day and it had interesting effects (not in an attempt to lose weight).

2017-10-30 23:29:51 UTC

I've only eaten dinner each day for years now, for some reason I have a really hard time eating breakfast. I'm just never hungry in the morning. It's not for lack of effort or laziness, since I regularly prepare breakfast for the kids almost daily.

2017-10-31 00:24:34 UTC

Awesome to hear

2017-10-31 00:26:20 UTC

I'm going to start making an 8 week cutting video series in which I detail dieting, supplements, routines, and my thought process as I go through each week, sort of VLOG style. Half will be me taking, half will be training footage. Big emphasis on scientifically sound information. Can post if anyone here is interested. Don't want to just shill my vids on you guys though

2017-10-31 10:38:18 UTC

@StaysafeTV - 191 lb Muscle Man better if you mix the audio of you talking with the video of you training

2017-10-31 12:12:39 UTC

Well, I was supposed to get up early to go do a bunch of errands, but I ended up sleeing in and even missed a class at university.

2017-10-31 12:13:14 UTC

I feel pretty shitty about missing class, the errands aren't a big deal. I think this is due to my lack of energy lately.

2017-10-31 12:14:33 UTC

So I'm going to start lifting weights again, I've stopped for like three months, and I've been feeling low ever since.

2017-10-31 12:17:16 UTC

Cartesians and a lot of general leftists say that the body and mind are two seperate things. Think about all those people who say you can have a healthy mind while being overweight, the body positivity people. We know that the body and the mind are connected, and if you take care of one, you ultimately take care of the other. It follows that if you neglect one, you neglect both.

2017-10-31 18:41:19 UTC

Well, so long as you didn't miss an important class, you should be fine, no? I'm guessing the class isn't a no-absence-policy class, or somehow I doubt you'd be that calm about it. And good for getting back on that! As someone in the biological sciences I can confirm, mind and body are in no way separate. The health of your heart, lungs, and the ability of your body to balance and create the cerebrospinal fluid all is a factor of main-body health. Fat activists are full of shit.

2017-10-31 22:17:33 UTC

@Rin Only eating dinner is a lot different from only eating breakfast (and the former carries a lot of health risks).

2017-10-31 22:18:42 UTC

Happy medium-- only eating lunch.

2017-10-31 23:03:42 UTC

Yeah, I'm aware. It's just a habit I've settled into and havent got around to doing anything about it. My body seems to do fine, but I can't help but feel I would be even better off if I ate more regularly. The thing is either I'm too busy or just not hungry during the day.

2017-10-31 23:12:08 UTC

I used to have a loss of appetite for about 6 months and it was due to minor kidney problems.

2017-11-01 00:00:54 UTC

Everyday I drink a class of pure cranberry juice + a milk thistle pill for kidney support because of some bodybuilding supplements I take

2017-11-01 00:01:07 UTC

Never had any problems

2017-11-01 00:51:48 UTC

I can attest to how great cranberry juice is.

2017-11-01 01:21:08 UTC

I just like the taste of it. What're the supposed benefits?

2017-11-01 02:07:33 UTC

I love the dryness of cranberry juice

2017-11-02 14:58:50 UTC

OKay.

2017-11-02 14:58:56 UTC

I need more help.

2017-11-02 14:59:13 UTC

I started working out, but I can't seem to be able to stop eating.

2017-11-02 15:10:16 UTC

Drink no cal drinks or waters to fill you up, eat low calorie foods to fill you up

2017-11-02 15:17:42 UTC

I can't seem to stop. And I eat HUGE amounts.

2017-11-02 15:30:54 UTC

Gain some self control

2017-11-02 16:16:54 UTC

@StaysafeTV - 191 lb Muscle Man hey have you tried or looked into fasting?

2017-11-02 16:53:05 UTC

agree with Chris, drink no-calorie drinks. If you stuff yourself with something like sparkling water then you won't be as hunger all the time. It will give you a liquid belly but that passes. It's a way to help with eating too much food.

2017-11-02 17:02:41 UTC

I had a similar problem at the start. I can tell you the smaller portion size does absolutely suck at the beginning, and you will feel hungry. However, I can tell you hunger is a physiological reaction triggered in good part by the weight and tautness of the stomach ("stretch" of the stomach) and that your stomach can and will acclimate to differing norms in relation to that stretch. So after a couple weeks of eating less overall, you will feel the hunger less as your stomach acclimates to a different stretch.

2017-11-02 17:12:18 UTC

The other option, if you find it's a boredom reaction and it's missing chewing, is to chew cinnamon or mint toothpicks, or celery. I prefer celery, because one stick offers a lot of those little celery fibers that you can just crunch on, and there's decent-enough hydration (as far as snacks go) and good fiber, provided you actually eat the fiber glob at the end. And yes, it's kind of gross to think about, but so is being a wild hambeast.

2017-11-02 17:39:55 UTC

When im on a cut i just kepe myself busy, eventually the hunger kind of zones out, then your stomach shrinks

2017-11-02 17:40:01 UTC

Or i drink lots of diet cola

2017-11-02 18:22:24 UTC

Bro aspartame is death

2017-11-02 18:26:10 UTC

Yea i know

2017-11-02 21:09:55 UTC

Good advice.

2017-11-02 21:11:21 UTC

@chris Try Zevia, they're sodas sweetened with Stevia

2017-11-02 21:11:31 UTC

Better tool to wean yourself off with

2017-11-02 21:18:22 UTC

@Marlow from all the research I've done, meal timing has no effect on metabolic rate (can provide sources) but I actually fast like 16 hours a day just sort of coincidentally just because of my schedule

2017-11-02 21:23:28 UTC

recently I did two periods of extended fasting a lost about 40 lbs really quickly, combined with a plant-based/whole foods diet

2017-11-02 21:23:57 UTC

the first was a 5 day fast, strictly no calories, and lost 11 lbs (I measured it with a dexascan)

2017-11-02 21:24:44 UTC

the second time was a 25 day fast, but I allowed myself a piece of fruit now and then or a slice a bread if I was baking (I bake my own sourdough every weekend)

2017-11-02 21:25:13 UTC

and I lost like 20 lbs that time

2017-11-02 21:25:51 UTC

where you're at, you could probably get to yor 7% bodyfat goal in about 5 or 6 days

2017-11-02 21:26:17 UTC

that first time, I didn't lose any muscle mass at all, but the 25 day fast I did lose some, and I think it was because I ate here and there

2017-11-02 21:26:23 UTC

and also it was a really long time to be fasting

2017-11-02 21:27:02 UTC

right now I'm 200 lbs (I'm 6'3"), I ended my last (25 day) fast at around 190

2017-11-02 21:27:37 UTC

anyway, if you're interested in pursuing that as an option we can talk about it

2017-11-02 21:27:44 UTC

Ok so how many hours were you fasting? How many calories? Also do you know your carb/protein breakdown?

2017-11-02 21:27:54 UTC

I ate nothing

2017-11-02 21:28:00 UTC

no calories for days

2017-11-02 21:28:18 UTC

5 days was my longest stretch without eating absolutely any calories at all

2017-11-02 21:28:38 UTC

and that's how you're going to have to do it if you want to preserve lean mass

2017-11-02 21:28:42 UTC

it's counter intuitive

2017-11-02 21:28:59 UTC

but when you're fasting your body goes into this "fasted state" where it's releasing tons of adrenaline and HGH

2017-11-02 21:29:07 UTC

you become crazy alert

2017-11-02 21:29:07 UTC

Oh I gotcha, ya I'd be really worried about muscle wasting. I'd be interested to see any before/after pics if you have them but muscle takes a tremendous amount of energy and effort to maintain

2017-11-02 21:29:25 UTC

like you're body is making a last ditch effort to struggle to find food before it starves to death

2017-11-02 21:29:37 UTC

here's the thing

2017-11-02 21:29:42 UTC

I've done a lot of reading into this

2017-11-02 21:30:08 UTC

and the literature states that caloric restriction convinces your body that you've found a reliable food source, but it's poor, so it "winds down" to adjust to it

2017-11-02 21:30:34 UTC

meaning it diminishes unecessary tissues in order to facilitate long-term survival

2017-11-02 21:30:42 UTC

one of the first things to go is excess muscle mass

2017-11-02 21:30:44 UTC

because it's expensive

2017-11-02 21:30:57 UTC

Heading out door to work, not ignoring but my response rate is about to tank, sorry ๐Ÿ˜…

2017-11-02 21:30:58 UTC

that's why guys who cut always see a reduction in muscle mass

2017-11-02 21:31:02 UTC

it's all good

2017-11-02 21:32:29 UTC

fasting, when done right, results in no muscle loss. Why would your body burn perfectly healthy tissue when it has fat sitting right next to it? The only situation in which that's a good idea is if it thinks it's going to survive long enough to possibly use that fat in a REAL survival setting, not in a setting with a poor source of nutrition, such as dieting or "cutting"

2017-11-02 21:32:50 UTC

I know it sounds like bro science but it's legit

2017-11-02 21:33:00 UTC

I've seen it in my own experience

2017-11-02 21:33:03 UTC

and no I don't have before and afters, sadly

2017-11-02 21:34:08 UTC

@Glacier333 ive heard fake suger is just as bad as aspertine

2017-11-03 01:59:46 UTC

@Orchid So I've been meaning to check out Jocko's podcast for a while now, he's about the only one of the "group" (JRE, Tim Ferris, Sam Harris, etc..) that I don't listen to yet every week. Holy fuck man, what an introduction that was. Thanks a lot for posting that, it gave me a good reason to start listening to him. I liked him already from his guest appearances on the other's shows but I had no idea how good his show was on it's own. Much appreciated.
