Arbery was sparking outrage before Floyd IIRC.
So was Taylor.
ah yeah
Floyd was sort of the 'last straw' moment.
It's been sung about for 40 years
50 years, since civil rights movement? I just can't believe it took this long
it's really sad
police should have dropped bodycam footage immediately
but good for now, but I just feel too manipulated by media
To be fair, changes like that take generations after generations.
i have no idea why they didnt with the floyd thing
is it true floyd had corona when he was arrested?
Depends on jurisdiction.
I don't like arguing in peoples deaths, but things can be taken out of context all the time
i'd say the officers are culpable for manslaughter, it doesnt look like there was any intent there
there is context, then there is out of context, i am confused because like ACAB, can these ultimatums always be true? can it be true that all cops are racist? or that there is always excessive force? I don't know. People's arguments against this claiming he was overdosing, he had corona. What other reasons than police brutality could he have trouble not breathing. But this just seems too hard to touch. How can we really know what happened unless we were there
someone died. That is enough said. I don't like arguing it
justice always seems to be lacking in these regards
eh?
im not making moral arguments
its going to go to court
and a jury will decide
Justice just doesn't seem to prevail. It's always defense and offense. one word against the other. But you are right we will see
just how people can get off when they were guilty. you shouldn't be able to manipulate the law in this way.
well what you call justice another calls injustice, thats why we have an adversarial system
its not perfect but its the best we humans can come up with
agreed!
Ugh, let's just hope that minority report is the future haha
not! the future omg
Gross neglect can constitute a charge of murder.
depends on the state
but from what i remember they charged chauvin with 2nd degree which requires intent
ah no
apparently theres a culpable negligence clause
Yepper..
@Maw, you just advanced to level 31!
@nainani *"What other reasons than police brutality could he have trouble not breathing"*
its very hard to not breathe, isnt it?
@nainani generally, however, in medicine, we like t deduce that when someone says "I cant breathe" - that is a clear sign they are breathing.
In fact, when someone enters the ER and calls out "I cant breathe!!!" we look at eachother and go "well, thank god, at least he is able to breathe"
This being a clever deduction from knowing how the vocal cords of the humans work.
No, in regards to opinionitis now embracing both the election channel and general chat.
I understand that this is good for business, so I will join you in celebrating it.
Its just that I miss the law.
(that is me, personally. Opinions sell better than learning, of course.)
I get it, just keep in mind, as of yesterday I have to deal with a roommate that has covid, and potentially myself as well. I have a harder time keeping track of everything lately.
I did not know that, sorry to have bothered you with a detail.
And let me know if I can be of help.
@Maw March 13 for Breona -- tragedy, but she wasn't the angel people wish her to be.
@Roadtrek Girl, you just advanced to level 5!
@Doc said colloidal silver is the promised land. I mean, I have questions, but who could take exception to what the Doc says.
Doc never said that. Doc recommends Iron if doc is to recommend a metal!
silver is for the greedy, steel for the brave!
Point?
The counter example to @William Dinan theory that everything before the but is b*******. In this case the b******* came after the but.
A prime example to make a flattering statement prior to discussing true intentions? The "But" separates the Two.
Yikes.... I am so sorry. I was an early victim. Some fool crashed into a car in front of me sending them both off an embankment. Myself and another guy went down to help. An elderly lady was unresponsive in one car. Doors wouldn't open so me being the smallest guy I crawled in to unlock seat belt and help get her out. Turns out the fool driving her was rushing her to the hospital with what turned out to be CoVid. Unfortunately, she passed away.
I got it from that encounter and it kicked my ass. Im 25 and not in terrible shape, I swim laps almost daily, but wow did it do a number on me. I hope all goes well. Happy Thoughts To You!!!!
Yeah... those type of "buts" do little to disguise the true intent.... just like mine does little to disguise too many visits to the Cheesecake Factory @meglide and @William Dinan
Huh? Where have you been? There were major protests in 2016. This issues have been protested for years. What exactly do you think the NFL players were kneeling about?
It just finally got to a true world wide enough is enough point.
And not to be cynical, as I am absolutely a BLM supporter, the fact that so many people were laid off or furlough due to CoVid likely had something to do with the size of some of the protests. Just being real.
@Maw hope you feel better soon I had Covid also.
@JD~Jordan so, you are absolutely for Marxism and the destruction of the nuclear family, believe that being on time is a form of white supremecy, and want critical ract theory to be taught in school so students are trained to a) have a victim mentality or b) feel ashamed of being white?
bad police officers need to be prosecuted. But not all police are bad people.
*all police officers are not bad people
What are you babbling about?
I am a capitalist. Check out my portfolio. Right now, deciding on whether to buy my niece a share of AAPL or ARKK for her birthday coming up. I want her to learn the market.
You need to stop trying to put people in little moronic boxes. It only shows your inability for critical thought.... Until you have something more nuanced to say, dont tag me.
Well, it is not babbling. You stated, "...[A]s I am absolutely a BLM supporter..."
they are a Marxist group. This is according to their founder. You can see her on youtube saying it.
"BLM" has nothing to do with black lives mattering. See. Unlike you, I am not coming at you in an insulting manner. I asked you if you stood for what they stand for since you "absolutely support" BLM. I am not putting you in a box. I'm quoting you. But if me asking you a question about what you said means I lack the ability to think critically, well, you are entitled to your liliputhian psuedo intellectual twattle.
Let me guess...I am racist for asking you f you support the Marxist ideology of the Marxist organization that you absolutely support, right?
Im really not the one for you stupid little games. BLM MOVEMENT is just that a grass roots movement. It is TRUE that one of the "johnny come lately leaders" is herself a "trained marxist" (whatever the fuck that means) but that in no fucking way means the group as a whole is Marxists
Additionally.... I said BLM M O V E M E N T .... the fucking MOVEMENT..... wipe whatever right wing horseshit you have been staring out out of your eyes and read what I type or go the fuck away... either is fine by me
Wow, you really are a mature individual aren't you?
It is obvious the "JD" in front of your handle does not stand for Juris Doctorate. Here I am thinking you may have the ability to speak rationally and civilly based on what appears to be a signal to your academic acumine.
No worries, I will not ask you anymore "tough questions."
I am. Just over this moronic little labeling of people. Its silly, childish and offers no solution to our problems.
Then stop labeling.
there you are with your retort calling me names again while at the same time chastising me for not offering solutions to your problem.
Well... no. I did not go to law school. My father and brother are lawyers. I wanted to teach. I am 25 and I only have a Masters. So my apologies for not living up to your expectations.
That is nice.
I did not set any limitations for you. You set them yourself.
Is this how you teach your students to debate? Just get upset at people that ask you a question about your statements of support of groups and your principles?
There are a lot of people in martial arts that like to tell you who their masters are, and who they have worked out with as a way to prop themselves up. They like to come to our schools and tell us how bad their instructor is and we tell them, "So what. What can your hands do?"
point being, pointing out that your father and brother are attorneys doesn't give you any standing in the law. That is cool and all, and teaching is a noble profession.
What makes you think I am debating you?
I simply pointed out that you were making moronic little assumptions about me and others. While spouting complete and utter horseshit in the process.
hardly a debate
You made a statement. I asked you a question. You got pissy and began slinging insults. I tried to engage you in a conversation based on your statement. Obviously, by my question, you can infer that I disagree with you, yet I am open minded to hear your point of view.
oh nay nay sir. I did not make "moronic assumptions." I asked you if you supported their ideology, and you got upset.
You asked a fucking stupid question.... am I "ashamed to be white?"
So let me answer it for you..... I am neither ashamed nor proud of the pigment of my skin. I had absolution zero input on the matter.
Anyone that is so stupid to be proud of such things does not garner my respect and will soon lose my attention.
Anything else?
You are right. Hardly a debate because you cannot speak to the principles you state you hold, that you "absolutely support" BLM. You absolutely support BLM, yet you claim to be a capatalist..seems rather contradictory.
Well, that is not true. the BLM organization is 100% about skin color, even though the BLM org. has nothing to do with black lives mattering. So, if you 100% support it, then skin color seems important to you.
Well, Happy New Year. I hope you do not teach civics or history or something important.
read in moment... market issues
SBE taking a dive in price if anyone wants to grab some here
wrong schat
I never asked if you were ashamed of being white.
Wow. You are really not a very logical person, are you?
I do not take pride in skin color, nor am I ashamed by it. Is not at odds with suggesting that people should not be treated different because of skin color, you dolt.
So yes. I absolutely support the BLM Movement (even if I do not know or support each of its members) - Much, like you and the police I would think. I am guessing you support the police as a whole - but you also recognize, as you stated, cops should be prosecuted when they do bad things.
There is no doubt in my mind that some individuals who claimed to be part of the BLM protests became violent. I absolutely do not support that violence. But I do not attribute it to the whole of the movement - much like you do not attribute the murder of a citizen by a single cop to the entire police force.
Why is it that I must support BLM 100% or nothing... but you can pick and choose the level of support for the police?
Sounds a bit like a bullshit double standard to me.... particularly given the fact that the police are supposedly highly trained and regimented group that is paid by Tax Payers to serve and protect. While BLM is a loose group of people with no real structure who happen to believe that cops need to stop killing black men and women at 7 times the rate of whites.
Calm down and be civil folks.
