Reworking schools is tricky and has to be done on a case by case basis

2018-09-11 05:53:05 UTC

Current debates center around homework and how effective it really its. Current consensus is that it is a necessary part of teaching. Being able to apply the skill on your own is an essential part of learning.

One of the solutions ive heard is that all assignments should be on a final due date schedule. At the start of the year students get a list and description of all assignments alongside a lesson schedule. They can do the assignments in any order provided they are done by a certain point in the school year, which will probably be 1-2 months before summer. Only exams would be excluded from this system. Failure to finish on time would result in students doing the work at school during the summer and attend extra lessons.

@Lagomaster24 i think the left bais in media, likewise for different reasons in cities, and probably the opposite (right leaning in rural religious areas) is pretty common

2018-09-11 07:05:13 UTC

i do wonder if many people may have different values, but just agree to censor it for their own social and economic livelyhood

2018-09-11 07:05:35 UTC

maybe not #1 reason, but probs top 3 reason why varied views and freedom of speech matters, nobody should have to lie about their actual beliefs

2018-09-11 08:33:13 UTC

Yes, and the way that institutions discriminate on political viewpoint and have been playing censor is the whole driver of this "ideological diversity" stuff that's going around.

Peer pressure is the word you're looking for

2018-09-11 10:11:08 UTC

I have to be up in 3 hours and stay awake/alert for the next 10

2018-09-11 10:11:17 UTC

Am I boned?

2018-09-11 10:29:57 UTC

How long have you been up already?

2018-09-11 11:01:46 UTC

@R9b1t that 3 month break basically takes what is normally only like 6-7 actual working months when you factor in holidays and such, and basically undoes 1-2 months of it. So really almost the first quarter to third of the year is typically spent relearning stuff already learned the previous year. leaving probably closer to 4 months of actual learning. really of rote memorization.

Is twitter going to bann theheraldsun also ?

2018-09-11 11:59:01 UTC

Good point. Let's make this clear. Twitter are banning artists.

2018-09-11 12:01:24 UTC

Id ask tim to cover it but he might get banned also

2018-09-11 12:02:05 UTC

Hang on. Has he been banned or did he delete his twitter?

2018-09-11 12:02:11 UTC

He can talk about it but maybe without showing the picture.

2018-09-11 12:03:00 UTC

It's pretty normal for political cartoonists to make ugly exaggerated caricatures of public figures. That's kind of the point.

2018-09-11 12:03:50 UTC

Dont know

2018-09-11 12:04:13 UTC

I feel like twitter banned him

2018-09-11 12:04:32 UTC

i'd show examples of his artwork exagerating facial features but most examples were on his twitter ....

2018-09-11 12:05:59 UTC

Lots of them feature hooked noses, massive ears, poofy lips, bulging eyes. His depictions of Tony Abbott are particularly exaggerated.

2018-09-11 12:07:39 UTC

I really think they're just taking parts of this guy's normal artistic style and taking them out of the context of his body of work. Example:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_90-7gfbA4VM/S5YW52SxbkI/AAAAAAAAB5E/tLqlMINn7Do/490128-mark-knight-cartoon_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

2018-09-11 12:08:16 UTC

The lips are what they're focusing on and they're basically identical in style across all his work.

2018-09-11 12:12:40 UTC

why is political cartoon, as a genre, so ugly

2018-09-11 12:13:39 UTC

The point is to give the common man the ability to poke fun at the powerful. It's a place to safely mock public figures, or at least it was.

2018-09-11 12:14:19 UTC

Banning this man is completely egregious and indefensible. Raw naked censorship and abuse of power. Absolutely no way to justify this under Terms of Service violations.
